William Thomas Jr., former P&G; manager
William W. Thomas Jr. was a self-made man who believed in contributing to his community.
Mr. Thomas' parents settled in Northern Kentucky after immigrating from Ireland.
The family didn't have much money, and Mr. Thomas worked to put himself through the University of Cincinnati, where he earned a degree in business administration.
Mr. Thomas, who spent most of his life in Fort Thomas, was a manager of purchasing with Procter & Gamble in Cincinnati for 40 years. He was a co-founder of the Fort Thomas Junior Baseball League and was active in his church, Highland United Methodist Church in Fort Thomas.
"He loved sports, and he loved his kids tremendously, so it was natural for him to get involved, " said a son, William W. Thomas III of Fort Thomas.
"He was friendly and outgoing. He had lots of friends in Fort Thomas."
Mr. Thomas, 82, of Austin, Texas, died Friday in Austin.
He was a member of Highland Country Club in Fort Thomas, where he was a senior golf champion, and a graduate of Highlands High School, where he once held the school record for the mile.
His first wife, Dolly R. Thomas, died in 1998.
"He was a great golfer, that was one of his first loves. He also loved to read and write, " said William Thomas III.
Other survivors include his wife, Joanne Thomas; a daughter, Susan Thomas Kirby of Winston-Salem, N.C.; another son, Alan C. Thomas, of Fort Thomas; a sister, Evelyn Moebus of Fort Thomas; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Oct. 14 at Leland Community Methodist Church in Leland, Mich. Burial will be in cemetery Point, Leland. Memorials are suggested to American Parkinson's Disease Association, 222 Piedmont Ave., Cincinnati, Ohio 45219; Leland Community Methodist Church Building Fund, Leland, Mich. 49654; or the charity of the donor's choice.
Barry Wayne Bailey, 47, of Covington, died Sept. 17 at his home.
Survivors include a brother, William Bailey of Indianapolis.
Services will be at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at Goebel Park Shelter House, Covington. Cremation will be at Hillside Chapel, Cincinnati. Catchen Funeral Home, Covington, is handling arrangements.
Robert J. Denny, 23, of Cincinnati, died Monday at Children's Hospital, Cincinnati.
Survivors include his mother, Donna Denny of Cincinnati; sisters, Jill McCullum and Angel Denny, both of Cincinnati; brother, William Denny of Cincinnati; and maternal grandmother, Mae Shepherd of Newport.
Services will be at noon Thursday at The House of Deliverance Church, Newport. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the time of services Thursday at the church. Burial will be in Baltimore Pike Cemetery, Cincinnati.

Violet E. Fender, 93, of Fort Thomas, died Sunday at Carmel Manor Nursing Home, Fort Thomas. She was a secretary for Schwartz Tailoring and a member of Belles and Bows, Silver Grove.
Survivors include a brother, Vic Fender of Cold Spring.
Services will be at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in St. Stephen Cemetery, Fort Thomas. Dobbling Funeral Home, Fort Thomas, is handling arrangements.
Howard R. Fenstermacher, 70, of Fort Mitchell, died Sept. 22 at his home.
Survivors include a son, Terry Fenstermacher of Leesburg, Ohio; a daughter, Sherry Fenstermacher of Leesburg; a sister, Ann Newport of Harrison, Ohio; and brothers, William Fenstermacher of Lewisburg, W.Va., and Charles Fenstermacher of Cincinnati.

John Randall Hopkins, 56, of Minneola, Fla., formerly of Alexandria, died Sept. 8 at his home. He was a self-employed busi ness communications retailer and a veteran.
Survivors include his wife, Patricia Ann Hopkins; a daughter, Melissa May of Groveland, Fla.; a son, David Goffinet of Groveland; his father, John Hopkins of Crab Orchard; sisters, June Martin of Richmond, Phyllis Adams of Alexandria and Yvonne Wolfe of Buford, Ga.; brothers, Keith Hopkins and Rory Hopkins, both of Alexandria; and three step-grandchildren.
Services were Sept. 11 at Kurfiss Funeral Home, Clermont, Fla.
William A. Krebs, 64, of Silver Grove, died Sunday at his home. He was a self-employed carpenter and an Army veteran of the Korean War.
Survivors include his wife, Delores Krebs; a son, Robert Krebs of Cold Spring; a daughter, Jeannie West of Glencoe; sisters, Nadine Davis of Covington and Dorothy Parks of Erlanger; brothers, David W. Krebs of Covington and Linville "Bud" Krebs of Alexandria; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 7 p.m. Thursday at Dobbling Funeral Home, Bellevue. Visitation will begin there at 5 p.m. Thursday. Memorials are suggested to American Cancer Society, 6612 Dixie Highway, Suite 2, Florence, Ky. 41042.
Helen Lundy, 93, of Latonia, died at 1:04 a.m. Monday at St. Elizabeth Hospice Unit, Covington. She was a homemaker and a member of Latonia Baptist Church, where she was a Sunday school teacher. Her husband, B.C. Lundy, died in 1975.
Survivors include a sister, Grace Betz of Covington; nieces and nephews.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Swindler and Currin Funeral Home, Latonia. Visitation will begin there at 1 p.m. Wednesday. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Erlanger. Memorials are suggested to Latonia Baptist Church, 38th and Church Sts., Covington, Ky. 41015.
Robert F. Otte Sr., 71, of West Covington, died at 1:10 p.m. Saturday at St. Luke Hospital West, Florence. He was a retired architectural hardware consultant with Cincinnati Scroeder Co., and a member of St. Ann Church in West Covington. He was a member of the Fifth Regimental Combat Team in Korea. A brother, Elmer Otte, also died Saturday.
Survivors include his wife, Kathleen Wessling Otte; sons, Dr. Robert Otten Jr. of Edgewood and Daniel J. Otte of Cincinnati; a daughter, Maria Rehkamp of West Covington; a sister, Mildred Brenner of Cincinnati; and five grandsons.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 7 p.m. Thursday at St. Ann Church. Visitation will be from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Thursday at Middendorf-Bullock Funeral Home, Covington. Edmon L. Robertson, 74, of Carrollton, died Monday at Carroll County Memorial Hospital. He was a member of Mount Zion Baptist Church, Carrollton.
Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Robertson; daughters, Linda Odit of Verona, Holly Hunter of Harrodsburg and Cindy Rothrock and Carol Thompson, both of Carrollton; sons, Michael Robertson of Campbellsburg, James Robertson of Milton and Larry Robertson of Frankfort; brothers, Rodmon Robertson of Wyoming, Marshall "Jack" Robertson of Shelbyville and Marvin Robertson of Worthville; sisters, Joyce Requet of Madison, Ind., Maude Banks of Columbus, Ind. and Nancy Bell of Kentucky; 14 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday in Pleasureville Cemetery, Pleasure. Graham-Dunn Funeral Home, Carrollton, is handling the arrangements.
Robert A. Samuel, 80, of Sparta, died Sunday at Carroll County Memorial Hospital, Carrollton. He was a farmer, a member of Sparta Baptist Church and an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Samuel; a son, Dale Samuel of Sparta; a sister, Virginia Felten of Belleview, Fla.; brothers, Allen Samuel of Sanders and Wayne Samuel of Woodbine, Ga.; and four grandchildren.

John A. Schmidt, 66, of Highland Heights, died Sunday at his home. He was a factory worker for Disabled American Veterans and an Army veteran.
Survivors include sisters, Mary Whitacre and Anita Moore, both of Newport; and brothers, Raymond W. Schmidt of Cold Spring, Robert K. Schmidt of Cincinnati and Donald H. Conway of Bethel, Ohio.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Radel Funeral Home, Newport. Visitation will begin there at 9 a.m. Wednesday. Burial will be in Floral Hills Cemetery, Taylor Mill.
Charles R. Seebree, 52, of Erlanger, died Saturday at Deaconess Hospital, Cincinnati. He was a disabled security guard.
Survivors include a brother, James Seebree of Erlanger; a sister, Melody Thompson of Erlanger; three nieces and a nephew.

Larry W. Stanley, 40, of Union, died Saturday at St. Luke Hospital West, Florence. He was the head custodian with New Haven Elementary School in Union and a member of Buckskin Bow Club.
Survivors include his wife, Linda Stanley; daughters, Jessica Stanley, Ashley Stanley and Marilyn Stanley, all of Union; his parents, David and Annie Rae Stanley, boh of Ocean Isle Beach, N.C.; sisters, Jackie Varnum of Supply, N.C., and Marilyn Reeves of Shallotte, N.C.; and brothers, David Stanley II of Bolovia, N.C., and Marcus Stanley of Ocean Isle Beach.

Leonard E. Taylor Sr., 69, of Highland Heights, died at 11:40 p.m. Saturday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas. He was a retired machinist with O.P.W. in Cincinnati a Marine Corps veteran of the Korean War and a member of the Newport VFW post.
Survivors include a son, Leonard E. Taylor Jr. of Erlanger; daughter, Debora Taylor of Highland Heights; brothers, George Taylor of Peach Grove, Elmer Taylor of Elsmere and Paul Taylor of Covington; sisters, Helen Lindsley of Withamsville, Ohio, and Ruth Adkins of Fairfield, Ohio; and a granddaughter.
