James Osbourn, Gallatin magistrate
James Osbourn traveled throughout Gallatin County, collecting many memories in his 96 years.
"We heard lots of stories about the building of (U.S.) 42. He drove it before it had any kind of pavement on it - when it was all rocks and ruts - in his 1928 Ford, " said his daughter, Ilene Gatwood, of Spencer. "I remember him telling us that the judge at the time said it was supposed to be the road to end all roads."
