'Soft-spoken' Norbert Fuehner worked to better his community
Norbert Bernard Fuehner quietly contributed to the betterment of his community.
Mr. Fuehner, a Covington native, was a retired bank officer with Provident Bank and was a member of the St. Vincent DePaul Society.
He was also a Fort Mitchell Fireman Booster, a member of Fort Mitchell Senior Citizens and Blessed Sacrament Senior Citizens.
A son, Theodore Fuehner of Edgewood, said his father also was active in a number of churches.
"He gardened a little bit. He stayed active, " Theodore Fuehner said.
Norbert Fuehner, 90, of Florence, died Tuesday at Florence Park Care Center. He was a member of the Catholic Order of the Foresters.
Theodore Fuehner said his father was a good family man who had a generous spirit.
Other survivors: his wife, Ella Fuehner; sons, Theodore Fuehner of Edgewood, James Fuehner of Independence and Donald Fuehner of Lawrenceburg, Ind.; a daughter, Suzan Helmer of Florence; 13 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Blessed Sacrament Church, Fort Mitchell. Visitation will begin there at 9 a.m. Friday. Burial will be in Mother of God Cemetery, Fort Wright.

Patricia A. Beckerich, 66, of Cold Spring, died at 12:30 a.m. Wednesday at Baptist Convalescent Center, Newport. She was a homemaker.
Survivors include her husband, Joseph Beckerich; a son, Gary Beckerich of Cold Spring; daughters, Cindy Montgomery of Leitchfield, N.H., Beverly Gray of Copperas Cove, Texas, and Connie Lockard of West Chester, Ohio; a brother, Stanley Kool of California; a sister, Marilyn Ice of Alexandria; and seven grandchildren.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph Church, Cold Spring. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Alexandria Funeral Home. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Alexandria.
Glenn Lee Bryson, 75, of Newport, died Tuesday at Veterans Administration Medical Center, Cincinnati. He was a retired housing inspector with the City of Covington, and a Navy veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Joan Bryson; daughters, Cathy Lynn Wescott of Covington and Theresa Hehman of Florence; sons, James Norman Bryson and James C. Hehman, both of Covington, Charles Hehman and Thomas Hehman, both of Erlanger, and David Hehman of Union; brothers, Harvey Bryson of Cleveland and Lloyd Bryson of Kansas; a sister, Veneeta Hamrick of West Virginia; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be at 4 p.m. Saturday at Salvation Army, 1801 Scott St., Covington. Radel Funeral Home, Newport, is handling arrangements.
Florence E. Elswick, 94, of Fort Thomas, died Tuesday at Highlands of Fort Thomas Nursing Home. She was a homemaker and a member of St. John United Church of Christ, Bellevue. Her husband, Samuel Elswick, preceded her in death.
Survivors include a sister, Emma Beck of Alexandria; and a brother, Irvin Class of Alexandria.

Taylor Fugate, 90, of Newport, died Monday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas. He was a retired laborer with Cincinnati Sheet Metal Co. His wife, Mary Deaton Fugate, and a son, Kermis Fugate, both preceded him in death.
Survivors include a son, Willis Fugate of Newport; daughters, Lillie Turner of Newport and Della Lemberg of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; a brother, Vernis Fugate of Barwick; sisters, Opha Hudson and Luellen White, both of Jackson; 10 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and 16 great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 9 a.m. Friday at Radel Funeral Home, Newport. Visitation will be from 6 to 9 tonight at the funeral home. Burial will be in Mill Dam Cemetery, Sebastian Branch.
Marvin Norbert Haigis, 77, of Fort Thomas, died at 3:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas. He was a bus driver with the Transit Authority of Northern Kentucky.
Survivors include his wife, Rose Mary Heflin Haigis; sons, Steve Haigis of Erlanger, Kevin Haigis of Corbin and Marvin Haigis of Alexandria; daughters, Laura McCrann of Alexandria, Rose Marie Haigis, Brenda Haigis and Kathleen Liggett, all of Fort Thomas; a brother, David Haigis of Newport; a sister, Bernice Powers of Newport; 12 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Cecil C. Mattox, 73, of Cynthiana, died Tuesday at his home. He was a retired employee of Bundy Corp. and a member of Upper Curry United Methodist Church, Harrison County.
Survivors include his wife, Evelyn Howard Mattox; sons, Larry Gilbert and Timothy Cecil Mattox, both of Harrison County; a daughter, Beverly M. Harrington of Harrison County; brothers, William Henry Mattox and Rev. Harold Mattox, both of Harrison County, and Clarancie N. Mary F. McKenna, 95, of Fort Thomas, died at 1:20 p.m. Wednesday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas. She was a homemaker and a volunteer with St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas. She was a member of St. Thomas Church in Fort Thomas and Club 55. Her husband, Joseph A. McKenna Sr., died in 1980.
Survivors include sons, Richard H. McKenna of Savannah, Ga., Joseph A. McKenna Jr. of Cincinnati and Robert L. McKenna of Cold Spring; 10 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Inabel Mullins, 88, of Erlanger, died Wednesday at St. Elizabeth Hospice Unit, Covington. She was a retired seamstress with Romanza Bridal Shop.
Survivors include daughters, Patricia Yelton of Pearland, Texas, and Priscilla Singleton of Erlanger; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Guerney Harold Perkins, 76, of Augusta, died Wednesday at his home. He was a farmer and an Army veteran of World War II. His wife, Estelle Teegarden Perkins, died in 1991.
Survivors include daughters, Linda Stephens of Newport, Mary Justice of Florida, Betty Lathem and Patty Mains, both of Augusta; sons, Jackie Perkins of Brooksville, Ronnie Perkins and Bobby Perkins, both of Augusta; a brother, Calvin Perkins of Falmouth; 20 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Eddie L. Reed, 68, of Fort Mitchell, died at 6:56 a.m. Tuesday at Good Samaritan Hospital, Cincinnati. He was a supervisor with Cincinnati Gas and Electric, a past master of Bradford Lodge No. 123 in Independence and a member of St. Paul Christian Community Church, Fort Wright, and the Scottish Rite.

Survivors include sons, Bill Ruef of California and Tom Ruef of Cincinnati; a daughter, Elizabeth Yates of Lafollette, Tenn.; sisters, Frances "Pete" Cann of Wilder and Lily Mae Eppenstein of Palmetto, Calif.; and four grandsons.

J. B. Thompson, 56, of Frankfort, formerly of Owen County, died Tuesday at Owenton Manor Nursing Home.
