Louise 'Ma' Fryman, cafeteria worker
Louise Botner Fryman picked up the nickname "Ma Fryman" from a student at Mason County High School, where Mrs. Fryman worked in the cafeteria.
The name stuck. To students and teachers alike, she was "Ma" for more than 15 years.
She simply had a way with young people, says her daughter, Saundra Jackson, of Maysville.
"She was their ma, " Ms. Jackson said. "She got along with the kids. She was always cutting up with them or carrying on with them. But she also would get on them if they did something wrong."
Mrs. Fryman, 69, of Dover, died at 4:15 p.m. Tuesday at Meadowview Regional Medical Center, Maysville.
She showed just as much love for kids, grandkids and great-grandkids, said Ms. Jackson.
"They were always first, " she said.
At home, she also did the cooking. People would argue about who would get the last of the jam cake, or the transparent tarts. Mrs. Fryman also will be remembered for her stories.
"She'd tell stories about what it used to be like when she was growing up, " Ms. Jackson said.
One story involved Mrs. Fryman, her brothers and the family car. Mrs. Fryman's father rarely let her brothers use the car and "the boys would always put Mom up to asking for the car. Then they would drop Mom off at a show or someplace and ride around."
Mrs. Fryman's husband, Walter B. Fryman, died in 1987. A son, Jeffrey Fryman, also preceded her in death.
In addition to Ms. Jackson, survivors include a son, John Fryman of Dover; brothers, John Botner of Michigan, Raymond Botner of Richmond and Bobby Botner of Winchester; sisters, Shirley McDonald of LaGrange and Jo Anne Frazee of Cincinnati; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
