Charles Salzman, Sports Hall of Fame member
Charles W. Salzman, a member of the Northern Kentucky Sports Hall of Fame, remained active in his golden years.
Mr. Salzman, 73, of Florence, was inducted in the Sports Hall of Fame years ago as a softball player, said his wife, Sylvia Klaene Hinkel Salzman.
However, Mr. Salzman, his wife and other seniors enjoyed playing golf every week in Boone County.
"We both liked to play, " Mrs. Salzman said. "We were very fortunate to find one another."
Mr. Salzman died Monday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood. He retired from Cincinnati Bell after 42 years of service. He was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church and was a Marine Corps veteran of World War II and the Korean War.
Mr. Salzman was born and raised in Campbell County. He served in the South Pacific during World War II and was proud of being a Marine, his wife said.
He was a Notre Dame fan and was a good family man, his wife said.
"This was the most caring person God put on this Earth, " Mrs. Salzman said. "I don't think you could find a person who really knew Charlie that didn't like him."
Mr. Salzman is also survived by sons, Jaime Salzman of Cincinnati and Michael Salzman of Fort Mill, S.C.; a daughter, Mary Loretta Harney of Newport; stepsons, Frank Klaene of Edgewood and Mark Klaene of High Rolls, N.M.; a stepdaughter, Linda Fookes of Florence; a brother, Richard Salzman of Harrison, Ohio; a sister, Eleanor Lyons of Las Vegas; and nine grandchildren.
Service will be at 7 p.m. Thursday at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, Burlington. Visitation will begin at 5 p.m. Thursday at the church. Burial will be in St. Stephen Cemetery, Fort Thomas. Memorials are suggested to Immaculate Heart of Mary Living- Growing-Giving Campaign, 5876 Veterans Way, Burlington, Ky. 41005.
Frances Allen, 87, of Falmouth, died Monday, at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood. She was a first grade teacher and a member of the Butler Methodist Church and Pendleton County Senior Citizens. Her husband, Norman I. Allen, preceded her in death.
Survivors include a son, Timothy Allen of Butler; a brother, Raymond Cornell of Dunedin, Fla.; and two grandchildren.
Services will be at 7 p.m. Thursday at Butler Methodist Church, Butler. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the church. Burial will be in Chapel Hill Gardens, Dade City, Fla.
Memorials are suggested to the charity of the donor's choice.

Geneva Aytes, of Ludlow, died Monday, at her home. Her husband, Amos Aytes, preceded her in death.
Survivors include daughters, Wanda Leach of Dayton, Ohio, and Sue Turner of Ludlow; sons, Ronald Aytes of Bromley, Larry Aytes of Ludlow and Michael Aytes of Villa Hills; eight grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild.
Services will be at noon Friday at Ronald B. Jones Funeral Home, Ludlow. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to noon Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Erlanger. Memorials are suggested to Hospice of Northern Kentucky, 1403 Alexandria Pike, Fort Thomas, Ky. 41075.
Richard Blaut, 64, of Dayton, died at 9:55 a.m. Tuesday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas. He was retired and an Army veteran.
Survivors include his wife, Sharor Blaut of Dayton; a son, Anthony Henslee of Latonia; daughters, Mindy Menear of Dayton, Debbie Lawson of Florence, Tina Henslee of Newport and JoAnn Blaut of Boone County; and nine grandchildren.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Alexandria Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the time of services Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Alexandria Cemetery.
Mark Gray, 73, of Warsaw, died Tuesday at Carroll County Memorial Hospital, Carrollton. He was a retired mail carrier and a member of Warsaw First Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Gray; sons, Mark Gray of Warsaw and Mike Gray of Burlington; a brother, Walter Gray of Florence; sisters, Frances Roberts of Warsaw and Helen Hudson of Worthville; and a granddaughter.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Carlton-Lowder Funeral Home, Warsaw. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Warsaw Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Warsaw First Baptist Church, 106 W. High St., Warsaw.
Gerald Hatfield, 91, of Covington, died Monday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas. He was retired from the maintenance department at Cincinnati Country Club.
Survivors include his wife, Ethel Wayman Hatfield of Covington; a son, Jerry Hatfield of Crestview Hills; two grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Swindler and Currin Funeral Home, Independence. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. Friday until time of services at the funeral home. Burial will be in Independence Cemetery, Independence.
Margaret R. Low, 80, of Covington, died Tuesday at Carmel Manor, Fort Thomas. She retired as a bank teller from Burnett Savings and Loan, Covington. She was a member of St. Mary's Lady Society, St. Benedict Church, Covington, Thomas More Women's Guild and St. John Ladies Auxiliary. She was a Girl Scout leader and an officer of the St. Benedict PTA. Her husband, John A. Low, preceded her in death.
Survivors include a daughter, Christina Briede of Covington; and a granddaughter.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Benedict Church, Covington. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Linnemann Funeral Home, Covington. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Fort Mitchell. Marie McCollum, 69, formerly of Covington, died Tuesday at East Galbraith Care Center, Cincinnati. She was a retired housekeeper for St. Luke Hospital West, Florence.
Survivors include a daughter, Marquetta Brant of Cincinnati; brothers, Lee King, Carl King and William Davidson, all of Louisville; sisters, Gena Ratliff, Edith Florence and Wanda Combs, all of Louisville; and four grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Swindler and Currin Funeral Home, Latonia; Visitation will be from noon to 2 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Bertha LaFever McIntire, 87, of Highland Heights, died Friday at Lakeside Nursing Home, Highland Heights. Her husband, James McIntire, preceded her in death.
Survivors include a daughter, Audrey Bosley of Wilder; a sister, Loretta Gabe of Florida; a brother, Charles "Chick" LaFever of Latonia; four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Joseph Palladino, 86, of Alexandria, died Friday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas. He was a retired mechanic for Coors Dairy.
Survivors include his wife, Ida Mailey Palladino of Alexandria; sons, Henry Palladino of Silver Grove and Joseph Palladino and Clifford Palladino, both of Alexandria; daughters, Mary Day and Alice Wagner, both of Alexandria; a brother Albert Palladino of Cincinnati; a sister, Jeanette Hirka of Cincinnati; 11 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.
Services were this morning at Radel Funeral Home, Highland Heights. Burial will be in St. Stephen Cemetery, Fort Thomas.
David William Ronnebaum, 53, of Florence, died Monday at his residence.
He was a self-employed carpenter and a Navy veteran of the Vietnam War.
He was a member of the National Blues Society and active in the restoration of the historical districts in Covington and the Mount Adams area of Cincinnati.
Survivors include a son, David Gaither of Lake City, Tenn.; daughters, Sybil Ruth Etling of Covington and Laura J. Bezold of Taylor Mill; his mother, Ruth Berkemeier of Dry Ridge; a sister, Barbara Ackman of Pensacola, Fla.; and eight grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Anthony Church, Taylor Mill.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. Friday until time of services at the church.
Burial will be in Floral Hills Cemetery, Taylor Mill.

Woodrow Ronald Treadway, 51, of Dry Ridge, died Monday at the University of Kentucky Medical Center, Lexington.
He was a maintenance worker for AQW, Walton.
Survivors include a son, Winford Ronald Treadway of Dry Ridge; his mother, Ruby Hardin Treadway of Port Richey, Fla.; a brother, Jerry W. Treadway of Walton; and sisters, Brenda Robinson of Independence, Barbara Jill Werner of Garland, Texas, and Betty Joan Williams and Beverly Ann Treadway, both of Port Richey, Fla.
A gathering of friends will be from 6 to 8 tonight at Chambers and Grubbs Funeral Home, Walton.
Cremation will be at Hillside Chapel, Cincinnati.
