Feebecks, married
50 years, die just hours apart
One month ago William and Elsie Feebeck celebrated 50 years of a marriage built on love for each other and the simpler things in life. They had followed one another across the country and back, and on Wednesday they followed each other in death.
William Harvey Feebeck, 81, died early Wednesday morning at St. Luke Hospital East in Fort Thomas. His wife, Elsie Feebeck, 77, died a few hours later at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South in Edgewood.
Both had lived most of their lives on their Grants Lick farm.
The loss of both parents has been a shock for the Feebeck's five children. But they say their parents gave them the gift of each other's company and the ability to see the humor in things.
"My mom always had a way of seeing the lighter side of life, " said a son, Frank Snowden of Dayton, Ohio.
"She always had good things to say about life's ups and downs."
Mr. Feebeck was a retired assembly line worker at Equitable Paper Bag Co. in Florence.
But the Feebeck's children say both their parents were farmers at heart.
The two had purchased their Grants Lick farm shortly after moving to Northern Kentucky 44 yea rs ago.
They had worked on a Washington state dairy farm before that, after leaving the mountains of Kentucky 50 years ago. That cross-country trip provided an early example of the power of humor in the face of adversity for Mrs. Feebeck.
"Her one attempt at learning to drive was driving Harvey's Model A Ford on that trip in a field where there was one tree, " said Mr. Snowden. "She hit that tree."
