Quiet John Hubbard taught by example
John E. Hubbard was a quiet man who taught his children by the example he set for them.
Mr. Hubbard, 67, of Erlanger, often worked two jobs to take care of his family, said a son, John Hubbard Jr. of Burlington.
"He was a good father who worked hard all of his life," John Hubbard Jr. said. "He was pretty soft-spoken, but everyone who met him liked him."
The elder Hubbard, 67, of Erlanger, died at 12:05 a.m. Thursday at St. Elizabeth Hospice Unit in Covington. He was a maintenance supervisor with Spear Inc. and an Army veteran of the Korean War. A daughter, Nancy Lee Hubbard, died in 1968.
The elder Mr. Hubbard was born in Corbin, but spent most of his adult life in Northern Kentucky. He enjoyed rooting for the Cincinnati Reds and tended to his vegetable garden when he was able.
"He loved picking his tomatoes," his son said.
Besides his son, other survivors include his wife, Jean S. Hubbard; sons, Glenn Hubbard of Dayton, David Hubbard of Elsmere and Rodney Hubbard of Erlanger; a brother, Frank Hubbard of Livingston; a sister, Nellie Garrett of Palatka, Fla.; and one grandchild.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Middendorf-Bullock Funeral Home, Covington. Visitation will begin there at 8:30 a.m. Saturday. Burial will be in St. John Cemetery, Fort Mitchell.
Ruby Hopperton Behymer, 79, of Walton, died at 8:08 a.m. Thursday at St. Luke Hospital West, Florence. She was a homemaker and a former member of Boone Lake Club.
Survivors include husband, Roy Behymer of Walton; stepsons, William D. Behymer of Cold Spring and Terry L. Behymer of the state of California; a brother, Harry W. Hopperton of Warsaw; eight step-grandchildren and several step-great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Hamilton-Stanley Funeral Home, Verona. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 tonight at the funeral home. Burial will be in Hill Crest Cemetery, Dry Ridge. Memorials are suggested to American Cancer Society, 6612 Dixie Highway, Suite 2A, Florence, Ky. 41042.
Daisy May Cooper, 61, of Crittenden, died Monday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center Grant County, Williamstown. She was a homemaker and a member of Goshen Christian Church, Piner. Her husband, Harold Cooper, died in 1989. A son, Jerry Lee Cooper, died in 1964.
Survivors include sons, Gary W. Cooper, Brian Earl Cooper, Danny K. Cooper and Ronald Ray Cooper, all of Florence, Harold Cooper Jr. and Terry Lee Cooper, both of Crittenden; sisters, Ella Lois Lawrence of Dry Ridge and Nancy Lorene Adams of Lexington; and eight grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Eckler-Hudson Funeral Home, Dry Ridge. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 tonight at the funeral home. Burial will be in Broadridge Cemetery, Dry Ridge. Memorials are suggested to Multiple Sclerosis Society, 4460 Lake Forest Drive, Suite 236, Cincinnati, Ohio 45242.
Joseph David Couch, son of Keith and Theresa Couch of Independence, was stillborn at 7:07 a.m. Wednesday at Christ Hospital, Cincinnati.
Other survivors include a sister, Molly Elizabeth Couch of Independence; and grandparents, David and Judy Trimble of Chillicothe, Ohio, and Evelyn Couch of Edgewood.

Wanda J. Lee, 62, of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., died Thursday at her home. She was a homemaker. Her husband, Jimmy Lee, died in 1973.
Survivors include a daughter, Victoria Bergeron of Fort Lauderdale; a son, Kim Lee of Independence; brothers, Ernest Gentry of Raleigh, N.C., Walker "Ronnie" Gentry of Fort Lauderdale and William Gentry of Naples, Fla.; sisters, Patty Hatfield of Fort Thomas, Linda Holbrook of Fort Lauderdale and Janice Rugg of Cincinnati; and three grandchildren.

Virginia L. Maxwell, 86, of Dayton, died Thursday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas. She was a homemaker.
Survivors include her husband, Lester Maxwell; a son, Gary Maxwell of Dayton; a sister, Beverly Groh-Lehn of Fort Thomas; brothers, Pete Walton and Richard Walton, both of Dayton; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Dylan M. Roberts, 6, of Latonia, was found dead at 12:20 a.m. Thursday at Rosedale Pool in Latonia. He was a first-grader at Latonia Elementary School.

Madison Virginia Smith, 19 days, daughter of Robert Scott Smith and Nicole A. Bach Smith of Independence, died Thursday at Good Samaritan Hospital, Cincinnati.
Other survivors include brothers, David Allen Wayne Dressman and Robert Scott Smith Jr., both of Independence; grandparents, Wayne and Barbara Bach of Independence and Elizabeth Wyrick of Independence; and great-grandparents, Helen and George Bach of Morning View, Wayman Cooke of Independence and Dora Hurst of Walton.
