Ralph Baker, builder, deacon
Ralph Paul Baker built the house his son Donald lives in with his own hands. And as his son was growing into manhood, the senior Mr. Baker, along with his father, L.S. Baker, taught the young man everything he would need to know to become a professional home remodeler.
Now, Donald Baker thanks his father for his home and his grandfather and father for his livelihood. "He was a good father and a good husband," Donald Baker said of his father. "He was a very nice, gentle man."
Ralph Paul Baker, 86, of Alexandria, died at 10:20 p.m. Monday at Highlands of Fort Thomas Nursing Home. He was a retired inspector with Cincinnati Milacron, where he worked for 35 years.
He also did some farming and spent a few years as a homebuilder in Northern Kentucky and in Florida.
"He was a farmer, and in 1940 he moved off the farm and built the house I live in," said Mr. Baker. "He went to Florida for two years to build homes. Then, in 1958, he built a new home, and when I came out of Navy (that same year), I bought his old place."
Mr. Baker was very actively involved in his church.
"He grew up in Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church and he was baptized ... as a teen-ager. He was a deacon of the church for I don't know how many years," Mr. Baker said.
"He was always out at the church doing all kinds of work."
The senior Mr. Baker did maintenance and helped out however he could. He was the church's Sunday school supervisor for several years.
His wife, Mary Baker, preceded him in death.
Survivors also include his son Jerry Baker of Boston, five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Alexandria Funeral Home. Visitation will begin there at 10 a.m. Thursday. Burial will be in Alexandria Cemetery. Margaret Ann Clemons Conley, 56, of Dry Ridge, died Aug. 28 at St. Elizabeth Medical Center Grant County, Williamstown. She was a homemaker. A son, Clifton Conley, preceded her in death.
Survivors include sons, Steven Conley, Donnie Conley Jr., Duard Conley and Grant Conley, all of Dry Ridge; brothers, John Clemons, David Clemons, Jimmy Clemons, Robert Clemons and Jerry Clemons; sisters, Gloria Clemons, Doris Lerns, Ellen Clemons and Barbara Clemons; 12 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Memorial services will be at 7 p.m. Saturday at her home, 10 Knoxville Road in Dry Ridge. Visitation will begin there at 2 p.m. Saturday. Eckler-Hudson Funeral Home, Dry Ridge, is handling arrangements.
David C. Frankhouser II, 53, of Florence, died at 10 a.m. Tuesday at his home. He was a truck driver with ITI Freight Systems, Florence, a former employee of Asplundh Co., and an Army veteran of the Vietnam War. He attended Christadelphian Church in Jasonville, Ind., and was a member of the Curwensville, Pa., American Legion.
Survivors include his wife, Carole J. Frankhouser; a daughter, Tammy Marie Skupine of Bellwood, Pa.; a son, David C. Frankhouser III of Ohio; stepsons, Doug MacAdams and Stuart MacAdams, both of Corinth, Peter MacAdams of Verona and Michael MacAdams of Florence; stepdaughters, Ruth Riley of Corinth and Rebecca Winans of Williamstown; a sister, Carol Cairns of North Kingstown, R.I.; and 16 grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Elliston-Stanley Funeral Home, Williamstown. Visitation will begin there at noon Friday. Burial will be in Williamstown Cemetery.

Hugh Raymond Hornsby, 71, of Covington, died at 7 a.m. Monday at his home. He was a minister with True Ministries Church of God.
Survivors include sons, Raymond Lee Hornsby of Burlington, Paul Hornsby and Hugh Raymond Hornsby, both of Covington; daughters, Pauleane Mace of Erlanger and Marlena Lyons of West Palm Beach, Fla.; stepdaughters, Sharon and Kathy; 12 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Richmond Cemetery. Catchen Funeral Home, Covington, is handling arrangements.
Opal Huskey, 100, of Asheville, N.C., formerly of Covington, died Sunday at Asheville Health Care Center. She was a home economics teacher with Western Michigan University and a member of Christmount Assembly in Black Mountain, N.C. She was a member of American Association of University Women and Central Christian Church in Kalamazoo, Mich., where she was a former chairwoman of the church board, an elder and the first female president of the Michigan Association of Christian Churches.
Her husband, John Floyd Huskey, died in 1995.
Survivors include nieces and nephews.

Mary Ann Jobe, 50, of Covington, died at 4:10 p.m. Tues day at her home. She was a homemaker.
Survivors include a daughter, Patricia Bradley of Newport; her father, James Bradley of Covington; a brother, Kenneth Bradley of Covington; sisters, Eva C. Slone and Sandy Rumsey, both of Covington; and five grandchildren.
Services will be at noon Thursday at Catchen Funeral Home, Covington. Visitation will begin there at 10 a.m. Thursday. Burial will be in Jonesville Cemetery.
William Earl Oder, 84, of Springfield, Ohio, formerly of Erlanger, died Sunday at his residence. He was a member of Elsmere Baptist Church and an Army veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Margaret I. Burgess Oder of Springfield; son, Bill Oder of Springfield; sisters, Etna Dugan and Lucy O'Brien, both of Florence; three grandchildren and and one great-grandson.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Stith Funeral Home, Florence. Visitation will begin there at 1 p.m. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Erlanger.

Emery E. Perkins, 90, of Brooksville, died Monday at his home. He was a farmer. His wife, Edna Ruth Edwards Perkins, died in 1992.
Survivors include daughters, Annette Fryman of Foster, Brenda Smith and Wandell Perkins, both of Brooksville and Elizabeth Faye Reed Moore of Cynthiana; five grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Moore and Parker Funeral Home, Brooksville. Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Betty Gayle Rogers, 53, of Carrollton, died Monday at Jewish Hospital, Shelbyville. She was a homemaker and a member of Open Door Baptist Church, Carrollton. Her husband, Garland Rogers, died in 1998.
Survivors include daughters, Debbie Cena of Simpsonville and Linda Smith of Shelbyville; a son, James Jones of Worthville; a sister, Patricia Raisor of LaGrange; a brother, Douglas Gayle of Yuma, Ariz.; and three grandchildren.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Graham-Dunn Funeral Home, Carrollton. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 tonight, and after 10 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be in New Castle Cemetery.
Beulah Hardin Ruby, 79, of Erlanger, died Tuesday at St. Luke Hospital West, Florence. She was a homemaker and a member of First Baptist Church of Independence, where she was also a Sunday school teacher and pianist. Her husband, Paul C. Ruby, died in 1995. A daughter, Thelma Pauline Perry, died in 1988.
Survivors include sons, Calvin Ruby and William Roger Ruby, both of Independence, and Jeffrey A. Ruby of Florence; a daughter, Janna Ruby of Schoenholz-Paw Paw, Ill.; a brother, Roger Hardin of Lawrenceburg; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Services will be private. Burial will be in High View Cemetery, Chaplin.

Emma Juanita Shover, 73, of Covington, died Tuesday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center North, Covington. She was a homemaker. Her husband, Ernest Shover, died in 1987. A son, David Wayne Shover, died in 1997.
Survivors include sons, Keith Shover of Florence, Lonnie Shover of Covington and Ernest Jeffrey Shover of Burlington; brothers, Kenneth Lewis and Darrell Lewis, both of Portsmouth, Ohio; 13 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Stith Funeral Home, Florence. Visitation will begin there at 9 a.m. Friday. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery, Fort Mitchell.
Mary Ann Steffen, 55, of Southgate, died at 6:05 p.m. Monday at her home. She was a cashier with Walgreen's in downtown Cincinnati.
Survivors include cousins.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Therese Church, Southgate. Prayers will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Muehlenkamp-Erschell Funeral Home, Fort Thomas.

Betty Terry, 70, of Covington, died Tuesday at her home. She was a homemaker and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star.
Survivors include daughters, Mollie Akers of Maineville, Ohio, and Vicke Fuller of St. Joseph, Mich.; sons, David Andruss of Panama City, Fla., Mitch Terry of New Castle, Pa., and Randy Terry of Barkieville, Pa.; sisters, Lucille Dodson of Hanging Rock, Ohio, Naomi Henry and Pat Rufrang, both of Orlando, Fla., and Dee Lewis of Ironton, Ohio; brothers, Richard Ferguson and George Ferguson, both of Mansfield, Ohio, and Ronald Ferguson of Covington; 11 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Dobbling Funeral Home, Fort Thomas.
Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Southgate.
