Mrs. Goetz, taught at St. Therese
Margaret Goetz' grasp of religion and math made her an excellent teacher during the quarter century she taught at St. Therese School in Southgate - as did an equally important quality: "She loved kids," said her daughter-in-law, Rose Goetz of Indianapolis.
Margaret Goetz, of Fort Wright, died Thursday at Highlands Health Care Center in Highland Heights. She was 86.
Mrs. Goetz was born and reared in Bellevue.
She taught sixth- and seventh-graders at St. Therese School, retiring in 1979.
"She was pretty strict, but she loved teaching," said her daughter-in-law.
"She was very outgoing."
Mrs. Goetz was a member of St. Therese Church in Southgate, the Knights of St. John Auxiliary, Daughters of Isabella and the St. Therese Altar Society. She enjoyed crocheting.
Her husband, Ralph Goetz, and a son, Robert Goetz, both preceded her in death.
Survivors include a brother, Rev. Arthur Besse of Fort Thomas; two grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Therese Church in Southgate.
Visitation will be from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Saturday at Dobbling Funeral Home in Fort Thomas.
Burial will be in St. Stephen cemetery in Fort Thomas.

John Robert "Bob" Ailstock Jr., 77, of Erlanger, died Tuesday at Lakeside Health Care Nursing Home, Highland Heights. He was a retired employee of HVC Chemical Co. and a member of Henry Barnes Masonic Lodge, Dayton.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Jansing Ailstock; daughters, Joyce Ailstock of Erlanger and Janet Nie of Covington; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 12:10 p.m. Friday at St. Paul Church, Florence. Visitation will be from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Friday at Linnemann Funeral Home, Erlanger. Ernesta Battiston, 84, of Florence, died Thursday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood.

Sophia Duvall Scott Bickers, 89, of Carrollton, died Thursday at Tri County Baptist Hospital, LaGrange. She was a homemaker and a member of Ghent Baptist Church and the Caby M. Froman Club. Her husband, Everett Eugene Bickers, and a son, Jerry Scott Bickers, both preceded her in death.
Survivors include a daughter, Betty Gene Raisor of Sanders; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Tandy-Eckler-Riley Funeral Home, Carrollton. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Ghent Masonic Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the charity of the donor's choice.
Edward Bowen, 80, of Edgewood, died Thursday at St. Elizabeth Hospice Unit, Covington.

Evert Bush, 81, of Covington, died Thursday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood. He was a retired laborer with Liberty Cherry Co., Latonia, and a member of Eggleston United Methodist Church, Erlanger. His wife, Anna Martin Bush, died in 1985.
Survivors include stepdaughters, Betty Million of Crittenden, Mary Ann Krevinko of North Carolina and Margie King of Burlington; stepsons, James Albertson and John Albertson, both of St. Augustine, Fla.; grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Mary Anne Cain, 63, of Covington, died Saturday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center North in Covington.
Survivors include a sister, Helen C. Cain of Fairfield, Ohio; nieces and nephews.

John William "Bill" Callen, 74, of Piner, died Wednesday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood. He was a retired paver with Eaton Asphalt, a member of Ohio Operating Engineers Union and a deacon with Goshen Christian Church in Piner. His wife, Ethel Brown Callen, died in 1992.
Survivors include a son, Rodney E. Callen of Piner; stepsons, Carl Black of Florence and Wayne Black of Independence; brothers, Harry Callen of Florida and Bob Callen of Piner; sisters, Danielle Rust of Piner and Mary Ann Tussey of Georgia; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Lemuel T. Clinger, 91, of Cincinnati, died Wednesday at Veterans Administration Med ical Center, Cincinnati. He was a custodian and a Navy veteran.
Survivors include a daughter, Marilyn Krumme of Fairfield, Ohio; a sister, Florine Lucas of Augusta; a half-brother, Calvin Clinger of Dayton, Ohio; three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Audrey Lee Crawford, 88, of Maysville, died at 4:45 p.m. Wednesday at Maysville Extended Care Center. She was a retired machine operator with U.S. Shoe Corp. in Maysville, and an employee of Carnation Co., Wald's LLC and Parker's Tobacco Redryer, all in Maysville. A son, Donald Crawford, died in 1994.
Survivors include a daughter, John Schmidt of Sardinia, Ohio; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Brell and Son Funeral Home, Maysville. Visitation will begin there at noon Sunday. Burial will be in Maysville Cemetery.
David T. Franks Jr., 71, of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., formerly of Newport, died Tuesday at his home. He was a retired teacher and football coach with St. Thomas Aquinas High School in Fort Lauderdale. He was formerly active in the City of Newport Recreation Department and little league baseball, and coached semi-professional football in Cincinnati. He was an Army veteran.
Survivors include sons, David T. Franks III of Newport, Ronald Dean Franks of Alexandria, Rickie Dale Franks of Boca Raton, Fla., Kurt T. Franks of Lake Wales, Fla., Patrick Franks of Fort Lauderdale and Christopher Franks of Daytona Beach, Fla.; daughters, Cheri Carlotta and Renee Matthews, both of Elsmere, Tammie Franks of Covington and Wendy Weaver of Fort Lauderdale; a sister, Amy Ruth Johnson of Butler; 14 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

James T. Frazier, 63, of Cincinnati, died Tuesday at his home. He was a self-employed scrap metal collector. His wife, Dorothy Frazier, preceded him in death.

Frances Youtsey Hinnau, 73, of Villa Hills, died Wednesday at her home. She was a homemaker and a member of Second Congressional Church in Greenwich, Conn.

Delma Engle Jones, 76, of Hebron, died Thursday at St. Luke Hospital West, Florence. She was a retired housekeeper with Americana Hotel, Burlington. Her husband, Buster Jones, died in 1958.

Sophia Bernadette Rolfes Kirkpatrick, 88, of Newport, died at 1:20 p.m. Thursday at St. Charles Care Center, Covington. She was a retired housekeeper with the Diocese of Covington Board of Education, and was a member of Woodlawn Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary. She was a member of the St. Cecilia Auxiliary of Knights of St. John, the Altar Society and Mother's Club at St. Francis de Sales Church, Newport, and Dayton Homemakers Club. Her first husband, Edgar Baker, died in 1945. Her second husband, Morris Kirkpatrick, died in 1973.
Survivors include a daughter, Judy Osburg of Newport; a son, Charles Baker of Covington; a stepdaughter, Virginia Hogan of Newport; a sister, Caroline Williams of Fort Thomas; a brother, John Rolfes of Fort Thomas; 13 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson.

Doris Oppel Newman, 75, of St. Petersburg, Fla., formerly of Northern Kentucky, died July 28 in Florida. Her husband, Lewis Newman, died in 1995.

Evelyn Rosemary Hook Roenker, 83, of Fort Wright, died at 7:50 a.m. Thursday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood. She was a homemaker and a member of Holy Cross Church, Latonia. She was a heart captain with the American Heart Association. Her husband, George Roenker, died in 1998. A daughter, Diana Roenker, died in 1994.
