Larry Greene, the electrician behind Oktoberfest, Tall Stacks
Up until the night before he died, Larry Greene did what he could to see to it that there would be electricity to run the booths at this past weekend's Oktoberfest in Covington.
He kept tabs on the the work "until the very end, until the very last night," said his daughter, Bonnie Greene.
Mr. Green, 59, of Verona, died of cancer at 11:25 a.m. Friday at his home. An electrician, he owned Greene & Greene Electric Co.
"He helped people out all the time," said his daughter. "Even when he was really busy, if someone needed something done, he would take the time to go put up a fan or stick in a plug."
His company has done electrical work for events in Main Strasse Village, Tall Stacks and the Toyota/WEBN fireworks with Riverfest.
He was a member of the Northern Kentucky Electrical Authority and the New Bethel Baptist Church in Verona.
He lived by the motto: "Don't worry, be happy," and was a social butterfly, his daughter said. He also was an avid hunter. Every year, he, his son, his father, his brother-in-law and his nephew went to a cabin in Owenton to hunt. His passion for hunting became a standing joke in the family: "We interrupt this marriage to bring you deer hunting season."
Before each trip, the hunters made a long list on a yellow legal pad of what they wanted to take, his daughter said. And part of the joke became that they ate more than they hunted.
