Elsmere's Frank Robinson, retired postal service worker
From his days as a stand-out on the high school basketball court to his 36-year career with the U.S. Postal Service, Frank Robinson always turned in a quality performance, according to his family. But it was the time he spent with those closest to him that he really relished the most in life.
"Dad was fortunate to retire early . . . He was able to spend a lot of that retirement time enjoying his grandchildren," said his daughter, Patti Smith of Independence. "He even kept up a pool in the summer for them."
Mr. Robinson, 64, of Elsmere, died Thursday at University Hospital in Cincinnati.
Mr. Robinson retired nine years ago after 36 years with the U.S. Postal Service. He was a dock expeditor at the U.S. Post Office Cincinnati Annex on Dalton Avenue.
Many around Northern Kentucky may remember Mr. Robinson better as "Sug" Robinson, as he was known as a star basketball player, in the early 1950s, for Covington Catholic High School. He continued his love of sports as he and his wife, Mary Ann, built their family of five children. Ms. Smith said a favorite family tradition was her dad's Sunday morning breakfasts.
"Dad would prepare some of the food ahead of time and always insisted on watching the grandchildren while the rest of us ate," said Ms. Smith.
