Martha Butler, developer's mother, 'inspired us all' with strength, zest

Martha F. Luschek Butler was the matriarch of a proud Northern Kentucky family that has retained her spirit and zest for life.

One of Mrs. Butler's sons is William P. Butler of Lakeside Park, the president of Corporex Cos., which is one of the leading development firms in Greater Cincinnati.

One of Mrs. Butler's daughters, Roberta "Robey" Klare of Cincinnati, said her mother was an outgoing woman who was just as comfortable balancing the books for the family plumbing business as gardening and raising children.

"Mom inspired us all. She was a strong character and, she always persevered," Mrs. Klare said.

"She was never a quitter, and she was always prayerful. She truly went to her faith to get through difficult times. She always went forward."

Mrs. Butler, 92, of Fort Wright, died Tuesday at St. Charles Care Center in Covington. She was a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert M. Butler, a son, Bobby Butler, and a daughter, Martha Butler.

Mrs. Butler was born and raised in Covington. Her pride for her hometown was passed along to her children, Mrs. Klare said.

"She was straight-spoken, and she was outgoing. She always interacted nicely with people; she enjoyed people," Mrs. Klare said.

"I would say my mother was a very positive person. She had a great appreciation for things in life. Anything in nature, mom really appreciated."

Mrs. Butler also is survived by sons, Michael Butler of Park Hills and Martin Butler of Edgewood; and daughters, Barbara Brown of Louisville, Kathleen Dusing of Edgewood, and Mary Alice Butler of Fort Wright, 29 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:30 a.m. Friday at St. Agnes Church, Fort Wright. Visitation will be Friday from 9 a.m. until the time of services at the church. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Fort Mitchell.

Memorials are suggested to Mission of Columban Fathers in St. Columbans, Neb., 68056; or St. Charles Care Center, 500 Farrell Drive, Fort Wright, Ky. 41011.

Arrangements are being handled by Middendorf-Bullock Funeral Home, Covington.

Larry Baker, 50, of Erlanger, died at 6:30 a.m. Tuesday at his residence. He was a building inspector for the city of Covington, a member of the Ohio Valley Carpenters, a Marine Corps veteran of the Vietnam War and a member of Wilmington Lodge 362 F&AM in Fisksburg. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police in Florence and a Shriner for the Syrian Temple.

Survivors include his son, Chris Baker of California; daughter, Aimee Baker of Independence; brother, John Baker of Florence; sisters, Linda Jones and Marlene Brown, both of Williamstown; half-sisters, Lynita Bachmann and Edgewood and Robin Hollar of Georgia; and his companion, Diane Baker of Ludlow.

Services will be at 7 p.m. Friday at Swindler and Currin Funeral Home, Independence. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Southwest Ohio Cemetery, Milford, Ohio.

James Patrick Breslin, 74, of Maysville, died at 9:47 p.m. Tuesday at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Lexington. He was the secretary-treasurer of the Breslin Warehouse Co., served several terms as president of the Maysville Tobacco Board of Trade, was a real estate developer, and owned and operated a farm. He also was a member of St. Patrick Church, Maysville.

Survivors include his sons, Ben P. Breslin of Maysville and Andrew Breslin of Knoxville, Tenn.; sister, Sister Eileen Therese Breslin of Seton Convent in Cincinnati and two step-grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Patrick Church, Maysville. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday at the Breslin home, 219 East Second St., Maysville.

Memorials are suggested to the St. Patrick School Building Fund, 318 Limestone St., Maysville, Ky., 41056.

Knox and Brothers Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.

Estelle J. Stubbs Christy, 66, of Walton, died on Tuesday at the St. Elizabeth Hospice Center in Covington. She was a bookkeeper for Metal Craft in Erlanger, a member of the First Baptist Church of Walton, Member of the W.A.N.A. Club in Louisville, and was active with the Girl Scouts.

Survivors include her husband, Orlando Christy; sons, William Ryan Christy of Jacksonville, Fla., Michael Eric Christy of Newport News, Va., and Matthew Dane Christy of Walton; daughters, Allyson Jarczyk of Orange Park, Fla., and Laurel J. Sizemore of Covington; sister, Mary Ruth Johnson of Dothan, Ala. and seven grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the First Baptist Church of Walton. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Friday at the church. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Erlanger.

Memorials are suggested to the First Baptist Church of Walton, 47 South Main, Walton, Kentucky 41094; or the Kidney Foundation of Greater Cincinnati, 2200 Victory Parkway, Suite 510, Cincinnati, Ohio 45206.

Jeff Faulkner, 42, of Williamstown, died at 4:13 p.m. Tuesday St. Elizabeth Medical Center Grant County in Williamstown after an apparent heart attack. He was a waste- water operator with the city of Williamstown and a member of the Mt. Olivet Church of Christ in Williamstown.

Survivors include his wife, Cathy Edmonson Faulkner; son, Edwin Dean Faulkner at home; daughters, Julie Webb of Williamstown, Tamanda Gordon and Deeana Griffith, both of Dry Ridge; his parents, Jouett and Mary Evelyn Faulkner of Dry Ridge; brother, Lee Faulkner of Williamstown; sisters, Sharon Faulkner of Dry Ridge, Alice Neumeister of Walton and Tina Dunn of Williamstown; and two granddaughters.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Elliston-Stanley, Williamstown. Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Church of Christ Cemetery, Williamstown.

Joseph Gosney, 84, of Alexandria, died at 1:25 p.m. Tuesday at the Baptist Convalescent Center in Newport. He was an instructor in sheet metal at Charles E. McCormick Technical Center in Alexandria. Before teaching, he was a welder for Schweitzer Brothers in Cincinnati. He was a member of the Aspen Grove Masonic Lodge 397 F&AM, a past Grand Junior Deacon for the Grand Lodge of Kentucky; a member of the Grants Lick Baptist Church; the Campbell County Retired Teacher's Association; and was a past president of the Grants Lick Parent-Teacher Association.

Survivors include his wife, Erma Gosney; sons, Jon Gosney of Erlanger and Bruce Gosney of Grants Lick; daughters Jo A. Gosney of Hudson, Fla., and Nancy McGinley of Alexandria; eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Alexandria Funeral Home, Alexandria. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Masonic services will follow the visitation. Burial will be in Alexandria Cemetery.

James E. Hodges, 74, of Florence, died at 12:58 p.m. Wednesday at the Florence Park Care Center in Florence. He was a retired ramp agent for American Airlines and a member of Lakeside Christian Church and the Country Pride Band. He was an Army veteran of World War II.

Survivors include his wife, Jean King Hodges; daughter, Cheryl Dauwe of Burlington; step-daughters, Kathi Boh of Union and Carla Midgely of Florence; step-son, Mike King of Florence; brothers William Hodges and Ronnie Hodges, both of Hebron; sisters, Sissy Delph, of Hebron, Betty Pepper of Chino Valley, Ariz., and Ginny Lindner, of Mesa, Ariz.; and 11 grandchildren.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Stith Funeral Home, Florence. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Petersburg Cemetery, Petersburg.

Elizabeth Irene Kelsay, 81, of Yorba Linda, Calif., formerly of Covington, died Tuesday at the St. Jude Medical Center in Fullerton, Calif. She was a homemaker and a member of the Latonia Christian Church, Latonia. She was preceded in death by her husband, Willard Kelsay, in 1977.

Survivors include son, Gerald Kelsay of Yorba Linda, Calif.; brother, John Simms of Covington; sister, Virginia Wainscott of Atlanta, Ga., and one grandson.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Connley Brothers Funeral Home, Latonia. Visitation will be 10 a.m. Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Highlands Cemetery, Fort Mitchell.

Viola May Lukey, 87, of Cincinnati, formerly of Ludlow, died Wednesday at the Riverview Nursing Community in Delhi Township, Ohio. She was a retired sales clerk for Pogue's Department Store and a member of Immanuel United Methodist Church in Bromley. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold J. Lukey, in 1982.

Survivors include her daughters, Sylvia Evans of Tampa, Fla. and Brenda May of Covington; sons, Gary Lukey of Edgewood, Brent Lukey of Independence and and Harry Lukey of Freeport, Fla.; 14 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Middendorf- Bullock Funeral Home, Ludlow. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Memorial Cemetery, Erlanger.

Arlene Kay Montooth, 47, of Dry Ridge, died Tuesday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center North in Covington, of cancer. She was an employee of Grant County Foods in Dry Ridge.

Survivors include her sons, Ronald H. Stucker of Dayton and Charles J. Montooth of Dry Ridge; daughter, Carolyn L. Carson of Virginia Beach, Va.; mother, Betty Sears of Covington; brothers, Ted Tatten of Chappell, Neb., and Robert Tatten of Columbus, Ga.; and three grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Eckler-Hudson Funeral Home, Dry Ridge. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. today at the funeral home. Burial will be in Crittenden Cemetery, Crittenden.

Vincent J. Pulskamp, 91, of Covington, died at 11:25 a.m. Sunday, at St. Charles Nursing Home in Covington. He was a retired foreman for Standard Oil of Ohio, a retired engineer for Thomas More College and a member of Mother of God Church in Covington. His wife, Mary Elizabeth Ryan Pulskamp, died in 1993.

Survivors include his son, Vincent M. Pulskamp of Spartanburg, S.C.; and six grandchildren.

Mass of Christian burial will be 12:30 p.m. Saturday at St. Charles Care Center Chapel. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday at the St. Charles Care Center Chapel, Covington. Entombment will be in St. Mary's Mausoleum, Fort Mitchell.

Jessica Marie Simpson, 16, of Pedro Pike in Harrison County, died Tuesday at Children's Hospital Medical Center in Cincinnati. She was a student at Harrison County High School and a member of Students Against Drunk Driving.

Survivors include her parents, Ed and Jane Simpson; sister, Andrea Lee Simpson; grandparents, Marliese and Dofin Fritts of Pensacola, Fla.; and grandmother Louise Garnett Lake of Harrison County.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Ware Funeral Home, Cynthiana. Visitation will be 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Burial will be in Battle Grove Cemetery, Cynthiana.

Brian Kyle Walton, of Bellevue, was stillborn at 12:55 p.m. Wednesday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas.

Survivors include his parents, Brian and Amy Walton of Bellevue; maternal grandmother, Kim Durham of Bellevue; paternal grandparents, Joe and Nancy Walton of Bellevue; great-grandparents, Barb and David Ross of Bellevue; great-grandparents, Rubin and Nellie Vickers of Newport; and great-grandparents, David and May Verkamp of Bellevue.

Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Evergreen Cemetery, Southgate. There will be no visitation.

Ronald "Joe" Webster, 61, of Alexandria, died Monday at his residence. He was a retired yardmaster at the Queensgate yard for the CSX railroad and a member of St. Timothy Episcopal Church.

Survivors include his wife, Betty June Webster; mother, Viola Webster of Louisville; brother, Donnie Ray Webster of Florida; sisters, Lonnie Collier of Crittenden, Sonnie Pettit of Dry Ridge, Connie Browning and Bonnie Browning, both of Florida.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at St. Timothy Episcopal Church, Cincinnati. Visitation will be from noon until the time of services on Monday. Burial will be in Alexandria Cemetery, Alexandria.

Richard A. Zumbiel, 97, of Highland Heights, died at 10:05 a.m. Wednesday at the Highlands of Fort Thomas Nursing Home.
