Lois Gutman taught for 42 years
There's no telling how many lives Lois Spillman Gutman touched, said her daughter, Becky Crase.
Mrs. Gutman taught school for 42 years and substituted for years after that.
Now, the boxes of cards and letters tell some of the story.
There are notes of thanks with cute misspellings from young students who tell "how much they loved her, and how good she was," said Ms. Crase.
There's also one graduation card "To the best teacher I ever had."
Mrs. Gutman, 91, of Dry Ridge, died Saturday at her home.
She taught with Grant County Board of Education, as well as Walton and Covington school districts.
"She was a very amazing person," said her daughter. "She started (teaching) in a one-room school house without a certificate. She had an emergency certificate because they needed teachers."
She went to college after she started teaching, had three children and took care of her elderly father.
"It took her 25 years to graduate from college," Ms. Crase said.
All the while her school board continued to renew her provisional certificate.
