Conrad Stephenson farmed, exhibited horses
Conrad Stephenson of Dry Ridge was a retired farmer and a former federal tobacco grader at markets in Kentucky and Tennessee. For years, he raised, trained and exhibited Tennessee walking horses.
Mr. Stephenson, 91, died Tuesday at Owenton Manor. A native of Dry Ridge, he lived most of his life there on a family farm off U.S. 25.
Neighborhood children loved to visit the farm, and he loved to entertain them, said his sister, Catherine Stephenson of Fort Wright.
"The children would come over and play in the barn and ride the horses," she said. "He would saddle a horse, put a child on a horse and lead the horse around. It didn't matter what farm work he had been doing."
A member of the Dry Ridge Presbyterian Church, he had a good attitude toward life, his sister said.
"He could face any adversity with a smile," she said. "It never rained on this guy's parade."
