Walton's Woodrow Ross, farmer
Woodrow W. Ross Sr., like most good gardeners, would get excited in the spring about what he was going to plant.
Then throughout the summer, he'd spend hours in his vegetable garden, reaping its bounty as fall neared.
Mr. Ross, 83, of Walton, died Friday at St. Luke Hospital West, Florence. He was a retired employee of the city of Walton Waterworks, a baggage handler at Union Terminal in Cincinnati and a farmer. He was a member of American Legion Post No. 277 in Walton and an Army veteran of World War II.
In addition to his garden and growing tobacco, he enjoyed hunting and fishing, said his son, Woodrow Ross Jr. of Crittenden.
He also loved raising hogs.
"We still have three of them," the younger Mr. Ross said. "We'd always kill them in the fall and rend their lard."
"He was a fine fellow," his son said. "He always had a big grin on his face. That's the way he was when he passed away."
Survivors also include his wife, Almetta Bowlin Ross; sons, Logan Ross of Walton and Archie Ross of Florence; daughters, Frances Bailey of Florence and Elizabeth Pray of Walton; sisters, Mae Frederick Tiemeyer of Charleston, S.C., Ophelia Jo "Sis" Chapman of Walton, Alice Richardson and Mildred Ross, both of Hamilton, Ohio, Georgetta Corneilson of Richmond, and Evelyn Thompson of Sugar Hill, Ga.; brothers, Barney Ross of St. Augustine, Fla., and Russell Ross of Tucson, Ariz.; 24 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and three great- great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Chambers and Grubbs Funeral Home, Walton. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 tonight at the funeral home. Burial will be in New Bethel Cemetery, Verona.
Everett Barnes, 86, of Newport, died Friday at his home. He was a retired machinist with IBM Corp., Lexington, and a member of Trinity Baptist Church, Newport. He was a member of Robert Burns Masonic Lodge No. 163 F&AM, Newport, and an Army veteran of World War II.
His wife, Cleora Winkler Barnes, died in 1990. A stepson, Robert Harris, died in 1993.
Survivors include daughters, Sharon Moore of Newport and Darlene Suth of Florence; a stepson, William Harris of Irving; a sister, Mattie Johnson of Highland Heights; seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Trinity Baptist Church, Newport. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Muehlenkamp-Erschell Funeral Home, Newport, with Masonic services at 7:30 p.m. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Southgate.
George Caden Blincoe, 67, of Burlington, died Friday at Christ Hospital, Cincinnati. He was a journalist with The Kentucky Post and the Cincinnati Enquirer, and a member of Trinity Episcopal Church, Covington. He was a member of the Cincinnati Editor's Association, Adult Literacy Project and the Cincinnati Writers' Project.
Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth Mayo Blincoe; daughters, Dr. Deborah Blincoe of Cuddeback Bill, N.Y., and Sandra Ogden of Cincinnati; a brother, Thomas Hess Blincoe of the state of California; and three grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Trinity Episcopal Church, Covington. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 tonight at Stith Funeral Home, Florence, and from 2 to 3 p.m. Tuesday at Arch L Heady Funeral Home, Louisville. Melvin F. Burdge, 78, of Erlanger, died Friday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood. He was a printer with American Book and U.S. Playing Card, Cincinnati, and a member of Reformed Evangelistic Church, Covington. He was an Army veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Webster Burdge; a son, Mike Burdge of Covington; and a sister, Vera Combs of Austin, Texas. Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Stith Funeral Home, Florence. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Floral Hills Cemetery, Taylor Mill. Memorials are suggested to the charity of the donor's choice.
Virginia Mullikin Grout, 84, of Covington, died at 10:10 a.m. Thursday at Baptist Convalescent Center, Newport. She was a homemaker and, with her husband, owned Harry Mel's Fresh Fruits and Vegetables, Covington. Her husband, Melvin Henry Grout Sr., died in 1995.
Survivors include sons, Fred Grout of Covington, John Grout of Florence, Frank Grout and Michael Grout, both of Los Angeles, Gary Grout of Burlington, Harry Grout of Independence, Melvin H. Grout Jr. and Ron Grout, both of Taylor Mill; a daughter, Laura Droganes of Fort Mitchell; a brother, Roy Mullikin of Latonia; 19 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Jane O. Reynolds Heile, 84, of Spanish Fort, Ala., formerly of Fort Mitchell, died Thursday at Westminster Village in Spanish Fort. She was a teacher with Third District School in Covington and later retired from Beechwood Independent Schools. She attended St. Xavier Church, Cincinnati. He husband, Frank X. Heile, died in 1995.
Survivors include a daughter, Rhonda Heile Hafner of Mobile, Ala.; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

C.M. Jones, 71, of Walton, died Sunday at St. Luke Hospital West in Florence. He was a retired coal miner for the Kentucky Ridge Mine Co. in Bell County and a welder for the Litton Corp. in Florence.
Survivors include his wife, Arkie; daughters, Shannon Ev ans of Alexandria and Reda Powers of Walton; brothers, Jimmy Jones of Dry Ridge, Pete Jones of Bromley, and Charles Jones of Independence; sisters, Shirley Haas of Covington, Lucy Davis of Fort Wright, Audrey Williams, Goldie Johnson, Mildred Centers, and Billie Faye Hamilton, all of Independence; 10 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Eveline Jones, 62, of Independence, died at 10 a.m. Saturday at University Hospital, Cincinnati. She was a cook with Peacock Bar and Grills in Erlanger and Independence, and a former demonstration representative with ACTNOW Co.
Survivors include her daughter, Carol Holland of Independence; mother, Theodocia Cox of Covington; brothers, Earl Cox of Independence and Frank Cox of Taylor Mill; and sisters, Helen Whitley and Kathy Holland, both of Covington.

Rodney Lee Kindoll, 42, of Walton, died Saturday at his home.

Virginia F. Wright Lloyd, 69, of Covington, died at 5:43 p.m. Friday at St. Luke Hospital West, Florence. She was a retired office clerk with Long Brothers Co., Ludlow. Her husband, Al Lloyd, died in 1992.

Barbara M. Fedders Luken, 82, of Fort Wright, died at 11:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood. She was a retired teacher. Her husband, Elmer Luken, died in 1989.

Gladys Adkins Stewart, 79, of Walton, died at 1:20 a.m. Friday at St. Luke Hospital West, Florence. She was a homemaker and owned rental property in Lexington, after serving as a nurse aide at St. Joseph Hospital in Lexington and doing home nursing. Sons, Walter H. Stewart and William G. Stewart, died in 1999 and this year, respectively.
Survivors include sons, Gary Stewart of Walton and Lee Stewart of Park Hills; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

David C. Wendt, 47, of Covington, was found dead Wednesday at his home. He was a machinist.

Anna Beatrice Hurst Wever, 85, of Covington, died at 1:50 p.m. Saturday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas. She was a homemaker and a member of Staffordsburg United Methodist Church, Independence, and Order of the Eastern Star Fiskburg Chapter No. 334. Her husband, Lewis J. Wever, died in 1997.
