Sports booster Albert Schreiber, was sons' 'hero and best friend'
Albert Stanley Schreiber was an excellent softball player who also promoted youth sports in Latonia.
Mr. Schreiber helped found the Latonia Youth Club to inspire youngsters to play sports. But as good as Mr. Schreiber was to other children, he was especially patient with his own.
"He was not only our father, he was our hero and our best friend," said a son, Timothy Wayne Schreiber of Florence.
"I called my dad every night on the phone. He went to almost all of my ballgames. Dad did everything with us."
Mr. Schreiber, 82, of Latonia, died Saturday at University Hospital in Cincinnati.
He was a retired distribution clerk with the U.S. Postal Service in Cincinnati and a former railway postal clerk.
He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Latonia, Colonel Clay Lodge No. 159 F&AM, American Legion Post No. 203 in Latonia and the Kenton Game and Fish Association. Mr. Schreiber, who grew up in Latonia, was an excellent small-game hunter. He taught his children how to hunt and was generous with both his time and money, said another son, Stephen Allen Schreiber of Tucson, Ariz.
"He was very forward and very earnest and hardworking," Stephen Schreiber said. "That was the way Pop was. He would help anyone he could. Even at 82, he donated to everyone."
Mr. Schreiber was an Army veteran of World War II. His wife, Ethel Jerri Schreiber, died in 1999.
Other survivors include another son Stanley Clifford Schreiber of Taylor Mill;eight grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Connley Brothers Funeral Home, Latonia. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Floral Hills Cemetery, Taylor Mill. Memorials are suggested to the charity of the donor's choice.
Mary Adams Bentley, 65, of Dry Ridge, died at 9:20 p.m. Monday at St. Elizabeth Hospice Center in Covington.
Arrangements are pending at Elliston-Stanley Funeral Home, Williamstown.

Robert B. Dix Sr., 75, of Newport, died Friday at St. Elizabeth Hospice Unit, Covington. He was a retired engineer with the federal government and an Army veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Dix; sons, Robert Dix Jr. of Newport, and James A. Dix of Dayton; daughters, Leslie Miller of Burlington and Patricia Bray of Alexandria; a brothers, Howard Dix of San Antonio; sisters, Estella Harmond of Cincinnati and Shirley Alley of Venice, Fla.; and 12 grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Radel Funeral Home, Newport. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Spring Grove Cemetery, Cincinnati.
Alma M. Feilen, 84, of Covington, died Friday at her home. She was a tailoring examiner with Hyde Park Clothes, Newport.
Survivors include a sister, Norma Schmeing of Taylor Mill; nieces and nephews.

Rodney Ray Hicks, 43, of Newport, died Sunday at his home. He was a carpenter and electrician.
Survivors include sisters, Gina Weaver of Alexandria and Lisa Stubbeman of Highland Heights; and nieces.

Edward L. Jennings, 85, of Villa Hills, died at 5:50 a.m. Monday at St. Charles Care Center, Covington. He was a retired machinist with R. A. Jones Co., Erlanger.
Survivors include his wife, Ruth H. Lebrecht Jennings; sons, Richard E. Jennings and Roger A. Jennings, both of Fort Wright; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

C. M. Jones, 71, of Walton, died Sunday at St. Luke Hospital West, Florence. He was a retired coal miner with Kentucky Ridge Mine Co. in Bell County and a welder for the Litton Corp., Florence. A daughter, Omalie Cox, died in 1999.
Survivors include his wife, Arkie Jones; daughters, Sharon Evans of Alexandria and Reda Powers of Walton; a son, Ralph Jones of Walton; brothers, Jimmy Jones of Dry Ridge, Pete Jones of Bromley and Charles Jones of Independence; sisters, Shirley Haas of Covington, Lucy Davis of Fort Wright, and Audrey Williams, Goldie Johnson, Mildred Centers and Billie Faye Hamilton, all of Independence; 10 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Cooper Funeral Home, Grants Lick. Visitation will be from 6 to 10 tonight at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Burlington Cemetery.
Norma Louise Kuhlman, 77, of Glendale, Calif., formerly of Newport, died Thursday at Glendale Adventist Medical Center. She was a secretary.
Survivors include a sister, Evelyn E. Hessinger of Glendale.

Howard A. Pattison, 82, of Kenton Hills, died Sunday at Mercy Franciscan Hospital, Cincinnati. He was a retired district sales manager with Erie-Lackawanna Railroad, Cincinnati.
Survivors include his wife, Peggy Pattison; nieces and nephews.

Dorothy R. Schraer, 82, of Dayton, died Sunday at her home. She was a clerk with Shillito's Department Store in Cincinnati. She was a member of St. John Church of Christ in Newport, the church Golden Agers Women's Group, Life Partners Group and was a former Sunday school teacher at the church. She was also a member of St. Luke Hospitals Auxiliary. Her husband, William T. Schraer, died in 1988.
Survivors include sons, Lawrence J. Schraer of Dayton and William C. Schraer of Louisville; six grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Thomas G. Wade, 46, of Elsmere, died at 3:30 p.m. Sunday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood. He was a laborer.
Survivors include his wife, Maria Patino Wade; daughters, Christina Wade of Erlanger and Nichole Rene Huerta of Elsmere; a brother, Melvin E. Wade of Long Beach, Calif.; and eight grandchildren.
No services are planned. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at Middendorf-Bullock Funeral Home, Erlanger. Cremation will be at Hillside Chapel, Cincinnati.
David C. Wendt, 47, of Covington, was found dead Wednesday at his home. He was a machinist.
Survivors include his mother, Emily Wendt of Florence; a brother, Andrew Wendt of Elsmere; and a sister, Lisa Rotte of Villa Hills.
Memorial Mass will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Cathedral Basilica of the Assumption, Covington. Cremation will be at Hillside Chapel, Cincinnati. Catchen Funeral Home, Covington, is handling arrangements.
