Robert R. Hoover, lawyer, athlete, 'good guy'
A member of the Northern Kentucky legal community has died.
Robert R. Hoover Jr., 42, of Newport, apparently died in his sleep at home. He was found Sunday by his mother, who lived with him, said his brother, Douglas Hoover of Newport.
"He had not been ill," said his brother. "We don't know the cause."
He said an autopsy was scheduled.
Robert Hoover had a law office in Covington, where much of his practice was in criminal law. He was a member of the Kentucky Bar Association and a member of the Church of the Nazarene, Fort Wright.
"Rob was an all-around good guy," said fellow Northern Kentucky attorney Steve Dowell. "(His death) comes as a shock and a loss to the legal community."
Robert Hoover was a good athlete, "quick as lightning," playing guard in basketball and running back in football at Dayton High School, his brother said.
He said he will remember his brother as "an intelligent, outgoing, funny, bright person."
In addition to his brother, survivors include his wife, Rebecca L. Hoover; sons, Jonathan M. Hoover of Winter Park, Fla., and Robert R. Hoover III of Bellevue; his mother, Cletus "Sue" Hoover of Newport; sisters, Jana Camm of Bellevue and Melody Hoover of Newport; and brother Jeremy Hoover of Newport.
Services will be at noon Wednesday at Dobbling Funeral Home, Bellevue. Visitation will begin there at 10 a.m. Wednesday. Burial will be in Floral Hills Cemetery, Taylor Mill. Memorials are suggested to the Newport DARE Program, 998 Monmouth St., Newport, Ky. 41071.
Catherine Elizabeth Hope Bonar, infant, died Monday at St. Luke Hospital East in Fort Thomas.
Arrangements are pending at Peoples Funeral Home, Butler.
Charles E. "Chuck" Conner, 57, of Cynthiana, died Sunday at St. Joseph Hospital, Lexington. He was a retired Bluegrass Army Depot employee and an employee of the Harrison County Board of Education. He was a member of the National Guard Reserves. His wife, Helen Conner, preceded him in death.
Survivors include a son, Gregory Conner of the state of Washington; sisters, Marlene Jacobs of Radcliff, Vivian Custard of Cynthiana, Bonnie Glenn of Lexington and Melinda Williams of Dayton, Ohio; and brothers, Wayne Glenn of Lexington, Kent Glenn and Leroy Conner, both of Cynthiana.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at St. James A.M.E. Church, Cynthiana. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the church. Burial will be in Cherry Grove Cemetery, Harrison County. Ware Funeral Home, Cynthiana, is handling arrangements.
Christine A. Cravaack, 84, of Ludlow, died Monday at Woodspoint Nursing Home, Florence.
Arrangements are pending at Ronald B. Jones Funeral Home, Ludlow.
Jane Lee Darenkamp, 76, of Fort Mitchell, died at 8:31 a.m. Monday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood. She was a homemaker.
Survivors include her husband, Edward John Darenkamp II; a son, Edward John Darenkamp of Springfield Township, Ohio; a daughter, Diane Cheryl Culbertson of Crestview Hills; a brother, Robert Gronotte of Vancouver, Canada; and three grandchildren.
Private services will be at the convenience of the family. Cremation will be at Hillside Chapel, Cincinnati. Memorials are suggested to the charity of the donor's choice. Connley Brothers Funeral Home, Latonia, is handling arrangements.
Marian Catherine Meyer Groh, 72, of Fort Thomas, died at 11:05 a.m. Sunday at St. Luke Hospital East in Fort Thomas. She was a homemaker and a member of St. Luke Hospital Volunteers, the Campbell County Historical Society and Club 55 at St. Thomas Church in Fort Thomas. Her husband, William "Duke" Groh, and sons, Thomas Groh and Roy Groh, all preceded her in death.
Survivors include daughters, Joan Vater of Cincinnati and Doris Manuel of Brooksville; a son, Charles Groh of Melbourne; a sister, Rose L. Woeste of Alexandria; a brother, Omer Meyer of Cold Spring; and four grandchildren.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Thomas Church. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Muehlenkamp-Erschell Funeral Home, Fort Thomas. Prayers will be at 9:30 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Cold Spring. Memorials are suggested in the form of Masses at St. Phillip Church in Melbourne or St. Thomas Church, Fort Thomas.
Ronald Albert Hartzel, 60, of Foster, died Sunday at his home. He was a retired vocational teacher with Aiken and Withrow high schools in Cincinnati, and a former Boy Scout leader.
Survivors include his wife, Margie Hartzel; his mother, Helen Ludwig Hartzel of Cincinnati; sons, Steve Hartzel of Peach Grove and Michael Hartzel of Foster; a daughter, Melanie Hartzel of Foster; brothers, Fred Hartzel of Cocoa Beach, Fla., and Patrick Hartzel of Cincinnati; sisters, Judy Helton of Milford, Ohio, and Pamela Mitchell of Cincinnati; and three grandchildren.
Services will be at noon Wednesday at Woodhead Funeral Home, Falmouth. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to noon Wednesday at Woodhead Funeral Home and from 10 a.m. to noon Thursday at Cox Funeral Home, Jellico, Tenn. Burial will be in Clear Fork Cemetery, Williamsburg.
Sarah F. Hodges Hill, 88, of Venice, Fla., formerly of Cincinnati, died Saturday in Venice. She was a homemaker and attended Venice Bible Church. Her husband, William Hill, died in 1988.
Survivors include daughters, Karen Deinert of Venice and Patricia Bujdoso of Highland Heights; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Berniece Hornsby, 74, of Florence, died at 8:27 p.m. Monday at her residence.

Elisie E. Konz, 89, of Tampa, Fla., formerly of Alexandria, died Aug. 2 at her home. Her husband, John J. Konz, died in 1992. A son, Phillip Schierenberg, also preceded her in death.
Survivors include sons, David Schierenberg of Sun City, Fla., and the Rev. John Konz of Fairborn, Ohio; five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Irma L. Louden, 90, of Petersburg, died at 5:43 a.m. Sunday at Woodspoint Nursing Home, Florence. She was a homemaker and a member of Florence Baptist Church. She was a member of the church Joy Club, Petersburg Senior Citizens, Florence Senior Citizens and Sunshine Club of Elsmere Baptist Church. Her husband, Ernest Louden, died in 1971. A son, Wilbur Eugene Louden, died in 1967.
Survivors in clude daughters, Martha Miller of Burlington and Janet Noble of Petersburg; a son, Jesse James Louden of Abilene, Texas; sisters, Florence Brown and Leona Hensley, both of Petersburg, and Mary Schweiger of Tucson; 11 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Emma McDaniel, 83, of Burlington, died Monday at her home.

John Morris, 68, of Warsaw, died Monday at Veterans Administration Medical Center, Louisville. He was a former truck driver, a member of Warsaw Baptist Church and an Army veteran.
Survivors include a brother, Jim Morris of Warsaw; and two nephews.

Elva Osborne, 96, of Owenton, died Saturday at Owen County Memorial Hospital, Owenton. She was a homemaker, a cook with the former St. Nicholas Hotel in Owenton, and a member of Owenton Methodist Church. Her husband, William Osborne, died in 1974.
Survivors include sons, Jackie Osborne, M. R. "Boots" Osborne and William Lendel Osborne, all of Owenton; six grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and one great- great-grandchild.

Maureen Spencer Waller, 90, of Erlanger, died Sunday at Baptist Village Care Center in Erlanger. She was a retired nurse and a former school teacher in Lee County. She was a member of Immanuel United Methodist Church in Lakeside Park, Fort Mitchell Senior Citizens, Lamplighters and the 55 Club. Her husband, William Waller, died in 1979. Survivors include nephews, Ronald Spencer of Louisville and Robert Medley of Walton; and a niece, Billie Lou Hicks of Louisville.
