Betty Bunger, hero to her kids
Betty J. Clifford Bunger was a hero to her kids.
Mrs. Bunger, of Covington, was a single mom in the 1960s, before single parents had the resources they do these days, said her son, Darryl E. Bunger of Covington.
"She raised three kids as a single mother and did a hell of a job at it," Bunger said.
Her kids not only had full bellies and a roof over their heads, "she raised us like she wanted us to be somebody," her son said.
Mrs. Bunger, 68, died at 11:30 p.m. Monday at Baptist Convalescent Center, Newport. She was a day care worker with South Side Baptist Day Care.
She had a great sense of humor, liked TV comedies and "was always clowning around," Bunger said.
She will be remembered for the love she showed, he said.
"She never would put people down, she cared a lot, and she never judged people," he said.
Her husband, Donald E. Bunger, preceded her in death.
In addition to Darryl Bunger, other survivors include another son, Donald E. Bunger of Auburn; a daughter, Deborah E. England of Covington; a brother, Charles Gier of Covington; 11 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Middendorf-Bullock Funeral Home, Covington. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 tonight at the funeral home. Burial will be in Mother of God Cemetery, Fort Wright.
Carmela "Camill" A. Beiting, 87, of Alexandria, died at 1:40 a.m. Tuesday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas. She was a homemaker and a member of Knights of Columbus of St. John's Auxiliary, St. Mary Church and St. Mary Seniors in Alexandria. Her husband, Joseph Beiting, died in 1989.
Survivors include a son, Jay Beiting of Louisville; stepsons, Bob Beiting of Fort Thomas and Dick Beiting of Southgate; daughters, Connie Mumme and Carol Beiting, both of Fort Thomas; and two grandchildren.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Mary Church, Alexandria. Burial will be in St. Stephen Cemetery, Fort Thomas. Memorials are suggested to St. Vincent DePaul Society, 2655 Crescent Springs Road, Erlanger, Ky. 41018; or the charity of the donor's choice. Alexandria Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
Mary Loganne Blain, of Dry Ridge, died Aug. 9 at Garrard Street Rest Home, Covington.
Survivors include cousins.
Ms. Blain donated her body to the University of Kentucky. Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Williamstown Methodist Church. Memorials are suggested to Williamstown Methodist Church, Williamstown, Ky. 41097; or the charity of the donor's choice.
Mildred Baumann Fasse, 86, of Fort Thomas, died at 1:23 a.m. Tuesday at St. Luke Hospital East in Fort Thomas. She was a homemaker and a member of the choir and Altar Society at St. Therese Church, Southgate. Her husband, Harry Fasse, died April 16.
Survivors include daughters, Eileen Edmondson and Jean Merz, both of Cincinnati; a son, Jerry Fasse of Cold Spring; sisters, Rita Stone of Florence, Betty Verst of Highland Heights and Marian Rust of California; brothers, Elmer Baumann of Latrobe, Pa., Wilbur Baumann of Wilder, Joe Baumann of New Port Ritchie, Fla., Edward Baumann of Loveland, Howard Baumann of Warner-Robbins, Ga., and Leonard Baumann of Alexandria; of 10 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 1 p.m. Friday at St. Therese Church, Southgate. Visitation will be from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Friday at Muehlenkamp-Erschell Funeral Home, Fort Thomas. Prayers will be at 12:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Cincinnati. Memorials are suggested to the charity of the donor's choice.
Collis H. Harmon Sr., 90, of Georgetown, Ohio, died Monday at Villa Georgetown nursing home in Georgetown. He was a mechanic and attended Georgetown Church of the Nazarene.
Survivors include his wife, Beulah Redmon Harmon; a son, Collis Harmon Jr. of Maysville; a daughter, Marie Harmon White of Knoxville, Tenn.; four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Cahall Funeral Home, Georgetown. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. tonight at the funeral home. Burial will be in Fleming County Cemetery, Flemingsburg. Betina V. Holda, 54, of Covington, died at 2:10 p.m. Sunday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood.
Survivors include her parents, Lois Gillespie of Covington and James Osborne of Williamstown; a son, Steven Holda of Covington; brothers, Stephen Holda of Easview, Kerry Gillespie of Covington, Joe Osborne, James Osborne and John Osborne, all of Nicholasville.
Services will be at noon Thursday at Catchen Funeral Home, Covington. Visitation will begin there at 10 a.m. Thursday. Burial will be in Pythian Grove Cemetery, Berry.
Berniece Hornsby, 74, of Florence, died at 8:27 p.m. Monday at her home. She was a retired assembler with Wadsworth Electric Co., Covington. A daughter, Janet Hutton, died Feb. 4.
Survivors include her husband, Ronald Lewis Hornsby; a son, Del Hornsby of Independence; daughters, Beverly Horton of Florence and Sandy Butcher of Elsmere; sisters, Sally Kidd of Fort Mitchell, Zelma Egan, Gladys Perry and Naomi Searp, all of Latonia; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Irma H. Louden, 90, of Florence, died at 5:43 a.m. Sunday at Woodspoint Nursing Home in Florence. She was a homemaker and a member of Florence Baptist Church. She was a member of the church Joy Club, Petersburg Senior Citizens, Florence Senior Citizens and Sunshine Club of Elsmere Baptist Church. Her husband, Wilbur Ernest Louden, died in 1971. A son, Wilbur Eugene Louden, died in 1967.
Survivors include daughters, Martha Miller of Burlington and Janet Noble of Petersburg; a son, Jesse James Louden of Abilene, Texas; sisters, Florence Brown and Leona Hensley, both of Petersburg, and Mary Schweiger of Tucson; 12 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.

Robert Maxwell, 83, of Hebron, died at 12:30 a.m. Tuesday at Woodland Hills Care Center, Lawrenceburg, Ind. He was a farmer.
Survivors include sisters, Lois Garnett of Covington and Stella Mae Garnett of Hebron; nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Bullittsburg Baptist Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Hebron Gospel Fellowship Church, P. O. Box 15, Hebron, Ky. 41048. Middendorf-Bullock Funeral Home, Hebron, is handling arrangements.
Emma "Sister M"' McDaniel, 83, of Burlington, died Monday at her home. She was a homemaker and a member of Waterloo Holiness Church, Burlington. She was a wife of the late Pastor James McDaniel of Waterloo Holiness Church, who died in 1972.
Survivors include daughters, Viola Jean Brunner, Rosetta Boots, Louise Lainhart and Hazel Baker, all of Burlington, and Mary Robinson of Petersburg; a sister, Marie Humphries of Cincinnati; a brother, Kermit Mallicoat of Cincinnati; seven grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Gary Reynolds, 50, of Covington, died at 10:30 p.m. Sunday at his home.
Survivors include his wife, Laverne Reynolds; sons, Cory Reynolds and Stephen Reynolds, both of Covington; and his mother, Mary Reynolds of Natural Bridge, Va.
Services will be at the convenience of the family. Cremation will be at Hillside Chapel, Cincinnati. Catchen Funeral Home, Covington, is handling arrangements.
Ruth A. Sparks Welsch, 74, of Crestview, died Sunday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas. She was a retired sales clerk with K-mart.
Survivors include daughters, Marlene Fardo and Michele Welsch, both of Butler; a sister, Hazel Asberry of Dayton; and two grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Radel Funeral Home, Highland Heights. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Southgate.
David Michael Willoughby, 47, of Dry Ridge, died today.
