Bernard Rolf Sr., launched Diocesan Social Services
Bernard Y. Rolf Sr., built a thriving business and was a key player in several social service agencies in Northern Kentucky.
He is credited with getting Diocesan Social Services off to a successful start and with helping several children's homes.
Mr. Rolf, 94, of Fort Thomas died at 3:40 p.m. Tuesday at Carmel Manor Nursing Home in Fort Thomas.
Bernard Y. Rolf, Jr., of Fort Thomas said his dad was a dynamo with a generous nature and a knack for organizing people.
"That was probably his greatest forte - to find the people and put them in the right slots, so he didn't have to do all the work," his son said with a chuckle.
That ability made Mr. Rolf the perfect person to launch Diocesan Social Services in 1962 as the organization's first president.
He already had been a driving force on the board of directors for the former St. Joseph Children's Home in Cold Spring and the Diocesan Children's Home in Fort Mitchell. He also was a charter member of Campbell County Youth Haven. In the meantime, he operated Rolf's Hardware on Monmouth Street in Newport.
Mr. Rolf was a member of St. Thomas Church in Fort Thomas, where he was a member of the Over 55 Club and an usher. He also was a member of Bob White Sportsmen Club and St. Stephen Court No. 1380 Catholic Order of Foresters.
Wife Laura Beckham Rolf died in 1978.
In addition to his son, other survivors include daughters, Dorothea Sims of Lexington and Laura Ann Rolf of Bright, Ind.; a brother, Cyril Rolf of Fort Thomas; nine grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Thomas Church. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at Muehlenkamp-Erschell Funeral Home, Fort Thomas. Prayers will be at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will be in St. Stephen Cemetery, Fort Thomas. Memorials are suggested to St. Thomas Church, 26 E. Roy F. Cain, 56, of Independence, died at noon Monday at his home. He was a dis- abled machinist and mechanic with Lingo Manufacturing Co., Florence, and a member of the National Rifle Association.
Survivors include his wife, Pamela Morrison Cain; a son, Roy F. Cain Jr. of Warsaw; daughters, Peggy S. Cain of Crittenden and Patricia A. Bledsoe of Independence; stepsons, Bill Allen and Matt Allen, both of Erlanger; brothers, Joseph Walter Cain Jr. and Donald R. Cain, both of Covington, Freddie F. Cain of Independence, William L. Cain of Elsmere, Robert L. Cain of Boone County and George A. Cain of Taylor Mill; and 10 grandchildren.
Services will be at 3 p.m. Friday at Highland cemetery Chapel, Fort Mitchell. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 tonight at Swindler and Currin Funeral Home, Latonia. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to American Heart Association, 2936 Vernon Place, Cincinnati, Ohio 45219.
Daisy Mae Cooper, 61, of Crittenden, died Monday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center Grant County, Williamstown. She was a homemaker and a member of Goshen Christian Church, Piner. Her husband, Harold Cooper, died in 1989. A son, Jerry Lee Cooper, died in 1964.
Survivors include sons, Gary W. Cooper, Danny K. Cooper and Ronald Ray Coo per, all of Florence, Harold Cooper Jr. and Terry Lee Cooper, both of Crittenden; sisters, Ella Lois Lawrence of Dry Ridge and Nancy Lorene Adams of Lexington; and eight grandchildren.

Frona Hughett, 95, of Covington, died at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at Woodcrest Manor, Erlanger.
She was a homemaker and a member of West Covington Baptist Church. Her husband, Willard Hughett, died in 1938.
Survivors include sons, Willard Hughett Jr. of Cincinnati and James Hughett of Atlanta; daughters, Norma Jean Honeycutt of Covington, Shirley Minniti of Cincinnati and Wilma June Evers of Albany, Ga.; nine grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and 15 great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be at noon Friday at Swindler and Currin Funeral Home, Latonia. Visitation will begin there at 10 a.m. Friday. Burial will be in Floral Hills Cemetery, Taylor Mill. Memorials are suggested to Covington Ladies Home, 702 Garrard St., Covington, Ky. 41011.
Margaret Laverne Massingale, 52, of Newport, died at 8:34 a.m. Wednesday at Mercy Franciscan Hospital, Western Hills Campus, Cincinnati. She was a packer with Sur-Seal Gasket Co.
Survivors include her husband, Donald G. Massingale Sr.; a son, Donald G. Massingale Jr. of Alexandria; a daughter, Tracey King of Villa Hills; her father, Garth Lakes of Cincinnati; a brother, Jimmy Lakes of Latonia; a sister, Charlotte O'Quinn of Silsbee, Texas; and two grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Allison and Rose Funeral Home, Covington. Visitation will begin there at 1 p.m. Friday. Cremation will be at Cincinnati Cremation Co.
Edward Metzger, 72, of Fort Wright, died Tuesday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood.
He was a retired meat salesman with Serv-all Meats and Gus Juengling Meats companies, a member of St. Agnes Church, Fort Wright, and a past president of Christopher Gist Historical Society.
He also was a member of Catholic Kolping Society of Cincinnati, Ancient Order of Hibernians, and a Navy veteran. A son, Stephen Metzger, preceded him in death.
Survivors include his wife, JoAnn Metzger; sons, Dr. Edward Metzger Jr. of Villa Hills, Dr. William Metzger of Fort Wright, Joseph Metzger of Union, Daniel Metzger of Lexington and Paul Metzger of Farmington Hills, Mich.; daughters, Katharine Allison of Los Angeles, Jeanette Bolin of Walton, Frances Urbina of Florence, Lee Ann Burk of Edgewood and Amy Metzger of Fort Wright; brothers, Dr. Ferdinand Metzger of Florence and Jack Metzger of Loveland, Ohio; a sister, Margaret Roberts of New Smyrna Beach, Fla.; and 21 grandchildren.

Beckham Raleigh, 91, of Grants Lick, died Tuesday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas. He was a retired foundry worker with Reliable Castings, Cincinnati, and a member of Grants Lick Baptist Church.
He also was a former chairman of the deacons at the church and a Sunday school teacher. Sons John Beckham Raleigh and Robert Lee Raleigh both preceded him in death.
Survivors include his wife, Clara Raleigh; sons, J. G. Raleigh of Cold Spring and James Raleigh of Miamisburg, Ohio; daughters, America Bon of Ashland, Ohio, Ruth Neace of Grants Lick, Bernice Abisso of Brockton, Mass., and Norma Warren of Grants Lick; a brother, Arnold Raleigh of Aberdeen, Ohio; 12 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Grants Lick Baptist Church. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 tonight at Cooper Funeral Home, Grants Lick. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery, Grants Lick.
Charles Reader Stanway, of Highland Heights, died Wednesday at Veterans Administration Medical Center, Cincinnati. He was a retired electronic technician with Dolbey Co. in Cincinnati, a member of Alexandria Main Street Baptist Church and Newport Elks, and an Army veteran of World War II. His first wife, Georgia Stanway, died in 1978.
Survivors include his wife, Anna Fay Holden Stanway; a daughter, Mary Janet Edwards of Florida; sisters, Mary Thiem of Grand Junction, Colo., Yvonne Fox of Guilford, Ind., and Betty Klotz of Venice, Fla.; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Thelma Tomlinson Wallin, 78, of Carrollton, died Monday at King's Daughters Hospital in Madison, Ind. She was a homemaker and a member of Wesleyan Church, Carrollton. Her husband, Herman Wallin, died in 1991.
Survivors include brothers, Roy Tomlinson of Ghent, Lester Tomlinson of Worthville, David Tomlinson of Union City, Tenn., and Ed Tomlinson of St. Petersburg, Fla.

Adam C. Weber, 90, of Fort Thomas, died at 10:55 a.m. Tuesday at Highlands of Fort Thomas nursing home. He was a retired lithographer with Progress Lithographers, Cincinnati, and an Army veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Alvera Talbert Weber; sons, Gene Alan Weber of Crestview Hills and Norbert Berkemeyer of Fort Thomas; a daughter, Kathy Perkins of Alexandria; seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Naomi King Wiglesworth, 81, of Falmouth, died at 3:50 p.m. Tuesday at Edgemont Manor Nursing Home, Cynthiana. She was a member of Falmouth Christian Church, a retired cashier with the former Albers Food Store, and a former employee of Falmouth Sewing Factory.
Survivors include her husband, Woodrow Wiglesworth; and sisters, Ruth McElroy of Arkansas and Ruby Baker of Fort Wright.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Woodhead Funeral Home, Falmouth. Visitation will be from 6 to 9 tonight at the funeral home. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery.
