Mack Gaddis, devoted husband
Mack Gaddis got great joy from helping other people. He was always willing to lend someone a hand and was known by family and friends for his thoughtfulness.
"If anyone needed anything he was the first one to help them out," said his youngest sister, Lucille Playforth of Florence.
Growing up, Mrs. Playforth said Mr. Gaddis played the part of big brother well.
"Anything that I wanted he saw that I got it," she said. "He was just a very thoughtful brother."
Mr. Gaddis, 79, of Florence, died Friday at Grant Manor Health Care Center, Williamstown.
Mr. Gaddis was especially close to his wife, Ruby K. Gaddis, his sister said. Mr. Gaddis and his wife were married
for 49 years. She died in 1989.
He was a retired assistant director of the driver's license division of the Kentucky Department of Transportation and a member of Florence Baptist Church.
He was a former employee of the Florence Police Department, a Kentucky State Police driver's license examiner and served as a Boone County Sheriff's deputy as a court bailiff. He was also a member of Harris Creek Baptist Church.
Survivors include another sister, Evelyn McElfresh of Erlanger; nieces and nephews.
Services were Sunday night at Stith Funeral Home, Florence. Burial was in Florence Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to American Cancer Society, 6612 Dixie Highway, Suite 2A, Florence, Ky. 41042.
Gladys Colemore, 72, of Bracken County, died Sunday in Lewis County.
Arrangements are pending at Woodhead Funeral Home, Falmouth.
Clara Amelia Weber Costello, 91, of Highland Heights, died Sunday at her home. She was a retired machine operator with Wadsworth Watch Case Co., Dayton, and a member of Asbury Methodist Church, Highland Heights. Her husband, Charles E. Costello, died in 1978. A son, Eric T. Costello, died in 1999.
Survivors include a daughter, Elaine Costello of Highland Heights; and two grandsons.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Muehlenkamp-Erschell Funeral Home, Fort Thomas. Visitation will begin there at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday. Burial will be in St. Stephen Cemetery, Fort Thomas.
Robert Beckham Garland Sr., 96, of Cynthiana, died Saturday at Edgemont Manor Nursing Home in Cynthiana. He was a retired tobacco farmer and a member of Centerville United Methodist Church. His wife, Ruby Dykes Garland, and sons, Paul Garland, Robert Garland Jr. and Richard Thomas Garland, all preceded him in death.
Survivors include sons, Bennie Garland of Vevay, Ind., and David Ray Garland of Lexington; daughters, Anta Mynear of Lexington and Bessie Rainey of Paris; a brother, Joe Garland of Lexington; 19 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Ware Funeral Home, Cynthiana. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Bourbon County. Memorials are suggested to Gideons International, 2900 Lebanon Road, Nashville, Tenn. 37214.
Lillian Goetz, 82, of Edgewood, died at 8:45 p.m. Sunday, at St. Elizabeth Medical Center North Hospice, Covington.

Grover Galen James, 50, of Covington, died at 5 p.m. Friday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center North in Covington. He was a truck driver and an Army veteran.
Survivors include his wife, Rosemary James; sons, Frank Key of Florence, Travis James and Tyler James, both of Covington; daughters, Ginger James, Gwendolyn James and Amanda James, all of Covington; his mother, Shirley James of Burlington; brothers, Paul Gayhland James of Berry, Glennard James and Gerald James, both of Burlington, and Floyd Gregory James of Florence; sisters, Ginger Day James of Burlington and Gwendolyn Wester; and one grandchild.
Services will be at noon Wednesday at Catchen Funeral Home, Elsmere. Visitation will begin there at 10 a.m. Wednesday. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Erlanger. Memorials are suggested to James Children Fund, in care of Huntington Bank, 2522 Burlington Pike, Burlington, Ky. 41005.
James W. Jones, 78, of Crescent Springs, died Saturday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood. He was a retired Army veteran, having served in World War II and the Korean War.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Jones; a son, Glenn Jones of Crescent Springs; a brother, Robert Jones of Daleville, Fla.; sisters, Alice Clem of Salem, Va., and Rita White of Cocoa Beach, Fla.; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Betti L. Karpe, 62, of Florence, died Friday at St. Luke Hospital West in Florence. She was a homemaker, a member of the Boone County High School Reunion Committee and Shiloh United Methodist Church, Cincinnati.
Survivors include her husband, Richard Karpe; sons, Allen Karpe of New York and Jeffrey Karpe of Cincinnati; her mother, Bertha N. Butler of Florence; brothers, Gregory A. Butler of Hyattsville, Md., and Kirby Butler Jr. of Clearwater, Fla.; and a sister, Pamela Butler-Stone of Kensington, Md.

Larry F. Marksberry, 54, of Park Hills, died of cancer Saturday at his parents' home in Corinth. He was a cable splicer with Cincinnati Bell Telephone and a member of Trenton, Ohio, Christian Church and Telephone Pioneers of America.
Survivors include a son, John Gregory Marksberry of Peachtree City, Ga.; a daughter, Tanya Renae Morrow of Lancaster; his parents, Walter T. and Mary Tate Marksberry of Corinth; a brother, Danny Wayne Marksberry of Winchester; and four grandchildren.

Virginia Rose Marshall, 76, of Sanders, died Saturday at Jewish Hospital, Louisville. She was a homemaker, a blood drive volunteer with American Red Cross, and a former member of Rebekah Lodge No. 60.
Survivors include her husband, Charles William Marshall; a daughter, Donna Charlene Marshall of Sanders; a son, W. M. "Marty" Marshall of Ghent; a sister, Eleanor Lyons of Las Vegas; brothers, Charles Salzmann of Cincinnati and Richard Salzmann of Hamilton, Ohio; and two grandchildren.

Frieda Isabella Meyer, 98, of Newport, died at 9:50 p.m. Friday at Lakeside Place Care Center, Highland Heights. She was a homemaker and a member of St. Johns's United Church of Christ, Newport. Her husband, Ervin Meyer, died in 1963. A son, John E. Meyer, died in 1988.
Survivors include daughters, Irene Steele of Newport, Ruth Ryan of Highland Heights and Norma Davis of Villa Hills; sons, Orville Meyer of Newport and Kenneth Meyer of Dayton; 37 grandchildren, 83 great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren.

Marie Morris, 88, of Florence, died Saturday at Florence Park Care Center in Florence. She was a homemaker. Her husband, William Morris, died in 1961. A son, Raymond Morris, died in 1988.
Survivors include daughters, Marge Martin of Florence, Helen Morris of Elsmere, Rose Mayer of Fort Thomas and Willie Mae Same of New Smyrna Beach, Fla.; six grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Myrtle Verna Morris, 89, of Carrollton, died Sunday at Carroll County Memorial Hospital in Carrollton. She was a homemaker, a member of Dallasburg Baptist Church and a former member of Order of the Eastern Star. Her husband, Harold "Whitey" Morris, died in May.
Survivors include sisters, Alma McDarment and Fannie Courtney, both of Carrollton; and a brother, Woodrow Jones of Charleston, S.C.

Eugene Oberding, 69, of Florence, died Friday at Florence Park Care Center in Florence. He was a retired iron worker with Teamsters Union Local No. 44 and Ironworkers Union Local No. 44, and a Marine Corps veteran of the Korean War.
Survivors include his wife, Doris Oberding; daughters, Karen Fielding of Burlington, Jenny Oberding and Virginia Oberding, both of Newport; a brother, Leroy Oberding of Fort Thomas; a sister, Norma Waechter of Edgewood; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Luther "Luke" Risner, 75, of Maysville, died at 8:45 a.m. Saturday at Meadowview Regional Medical Center in Maysville. He was a dairy inspector with Kraft Co., a former Kentucky State Police trooper and a Marine Corps veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Ninette Risner; a daughter, Janet West of Maysville; a son, Larry Joe Risner of Maysville; a sister, Easter Freienmuth of Quincy, Pa.; a brother, Lacy Risner of St. Louis; a half-sister, Serena Johnston of Hindman; and one granddaughter.

Margaret Helen Rothert, 84, of Covington, died at 1:20 a.m. Saturday at St. Charles Care Center, Fort Wright. She was the former owner of Rothert's Rental Service, Latonia, and a member of Holy Cross Church in Latonia. Her husband, Eugene Francis Rothert, died in 1989.
Survivors include a son, Robert G. Rothert of Covington; a daughter, Mary Lee Scheper of Fort Wright; a brother, Louis Johannemann of Fort Wright; sisters, Helen Johannemann and Agnes Albers, both of Covington; and five grandchildren.
