Arthur F. Blanke, taught patience, understanding
Arthur F. Blanke, retired stationary fireman for Burger Brewing Co., died at 2:40 p.m. Monday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South. He was 88.
Mr. Blanke was born in Ludlow. He and his wife, the late Fern Angel Blanke, had two children and lived in Covington and Fort Mitchell.
" My father was a very jovial person," said his son, Edward Blanke of Lakeside Park. "He had a bright outlook. Even when adversity struck, he took it in stride."
In later years, Mr. Blanke had to have his leg amputated. "He just accepted it and went on with life," his son said.
Mr. Blanke had several aquariums, an interest that was sparked by his son's aquariums as a young man.
Mr. Blanke was a member of the Covington Eagles social club, Senior Services of Northern Kentucky and Fort Mitchell Baptist Church.
"He had a strong work ethic, and he loved his family," his son said. "My father was the kindest man I ever knew, and ever will know.
"I learned understanding from him, and patience, especially in the later years."
After Mr. Blanke's wife died in 1990, he moved to an apartment and later moved to the Baptist Village. "He was very happy there. He loved all the women. He got along with everybody," his son said.
Besides his son, he is survived by his daughter, Betty Hurst of Fort Mitchell, brother, Ralph Blanke of Ludlow, four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11:30 a.m. Thursday at Middendorf-Bullock Funeral Home in Erlanger. Visitation will begin there at 10 a.m. Thursday. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Erlanger.

Laverne Cundiff Crouch, 82, of Augusta, died Monday in Springfield. She was a homemaker and a member of Augusta Church of the Nazarene. Her husband, Marshall Crouch; daughters, Sandy Crouch and Anita Louise Crouch; and a son, Steven Crouch, all preceded her in death.
Survivors include sons, Charles Crouch of Campobello, S.C., Thomas Crouch of Blountsville, Ind., Oscar Crouch of Versailles, Richard Crouch and Terry Crouch of Augusta, Dennis Crouch of Springfield and Randy Crouch of Brooksville; a daughter, Shirley Crouch Ball of Morehead; sisters, Jean Rogers of Bourbannais, Ill., Katherine Dile of Campbellsville; a brother, Thomas Cundiff of Campbellsville; 17 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Church of the Nazarene, Augusta. Visitation will be from 6 to 9 tonight at Moore and Parker Funeral Home, Augusta. Burial will be in Rosemont Cemetery, Dover. Lula Denhart, 69, of Walton, died Tuesday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood. Arrangements are pending at Swindler and Currin Funeral Home, Independence.
Patsy Wagoner Florence, 59, of Harrison County, died Monday at Hospice Care Center, Lexington. She was a volunteer with nursing homes, hospices and Harrison Memorial Hospital, and a member of Oddville United Methodist Church. She was a member of Northside Homemakers, Mount Pleasant Missionary Group and the Ladies Auxiliary to VFW Post No. 8666, having served as the auxiliary's president, secretary and treasurer.
Survivors include her husband, Lawrence Otis Florence; sons, Mark Anthony Florence and Kevin Dale Florence, both of Harrison County; brothers, Billy Edward Wagoner and Marcus Eugene Wagoner, both of Harrison County, and Elmer Wayne Wagoner of Lexington; a sister, Virginia Carol Doan of Richmond; and five grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Ware Funeral Home, Cynthiana. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 tonight at the funeral home. Burial will be in Wagoner's Chapel Cemetery, Harrison County. Teresa Lee Groeschen, 46, of Alexandria, died at 5:25 p.m. Tuesday at the St. Elizabeth Hospice Unit in Covington. She was a teacher.
Survivors include her husband, Martin J. Groeschen; two sons, Luke Martin Groeschen and Paul Vincent Groeschen, both of Alexandria; her parents, James and Joyce Hamilton of Fort Thomas; a brother, Jeff Hamilton of Forest Park, Ohio; and a sister, Valerie Wagner of Bellevue.
Mass of Chistian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Joseph Church, Cold Spring. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Alexandria Funeral Home, Alexandria. Betty Jo New Hardin, 62, of Covington, died at 12:54 p.m. Tuesday at her home. She was a homemaker. Her husband, William Hardin, died in 1978.
Survivors include sons, William Hardin, Jesse Hardin, James Hardin, John Hardin and Steve Hardin, all of Covington; her mother, Stella Howard of Covington; a brother, Arthur New of Elsmere; stepbrothers, Boyd Howard of Independence and Tommy Howard of Covington; sisters, Donna Bryant and Carol Niemeyer, both of Covington, and Roxann Cain of Scottsville; stepsisters, Faye Ard and Janet Denney, both of Covington; and five grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Catchen Funeral Home, Covington. Visitation begins there at noon Thursday. Burial will be in Floral Hills Cemetery, Taylor Mill.
Joseph Ben Lee Sr., 67, of Demossville, died Monday at Pineview Manor Care Center, Beavercreek, Ohio.

Mary Lee Romito, 61, of Covington, died at 5:50 a.m. Sunday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center North in Covington. She was a homemaker and a member of St. Ann Church in Covington and Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary, Cold Spring.
Survivors include her husband, Pasquale Joseph Romito of Covington; sons, David William Romito of Edgewood and Mark Allen Romito of Florence; sisters, Emma D. Oliver of Ludlow and Irma Morgan of Covington; four grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Ann Church. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Muehlenkamp-Erschell Funeral Home, Newport. Burial will be in St. Stephen Cemetery, Fort Thomas. Memorials are suggested to the charity of the donor's choice.
Dale B. Waugaman, 27, of Aberdeen, Ohio, died Sunday at Meadowview Regional Medical Center, Maysville. He was a communications technician with Emerson Power Transmission, Maysville, and a member of the Church of the Redeemed in Maysville, where he was a youth pastor.
Survivors include his wife, Becky Irlmeier Waugaman, who is expecting a baby; his mother and stepfather, Margaret Waugaman Kovalchuck and Fred Kovalchuck, both of Troy, Mich.; brothers, Matthew Kersten Waugaman and William Kovalchuck, both of Troy; and grandfather, Billie B. Waugaman of Greenburg, Pa.
