Alma Zwosta Waddell showed others how to enjoy life
Alma Zwosta Waddell went through life with a smile on her face.
"She showed us all how to enjoy life," said her daughter-in-law, Nancy Martin of Dayton.
"She respected other people. She was a fine, caring person."
Mrs. Waddell died Thursday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South in Edgewood, after suffering a heart attack and stroke Monday at her home in Crescent Springs. She was 65.
Mrs. Waddell was a homemaker and a member of St. John Church in Covington.
She kept a garden all her life.
Her son, Tony Martin of Dayton, remembers his mother tending her flowers when he was growing up in Latonia and West Covington.
Even when she lived in an apartment, she always had plants, he said.
She enjoyed baking for the family, especially during holidays. She also enjoyed fishing, and would spend quiet afternoons on the riverbank or at various lakes.
Other survivors include daughters, Veronica Louise Baker of Greenville, Ohio, and Linda Sue Coomer of Crescent Springs; sons, Michael West of Eaton, Ohio, and Willard Wilson of Crestview Hills; a brother, Robert L. Zwosta of Covington; a sister, Mildred Cassidy of Cincinnati; 10 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. John Church, Covington.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at Middendorf-Bullock Funeral Home, Covington.
Burial will be in Mother of God Cemetery, Fort Wright.
Arthur B. Allen, 86, of Independence, died at 3:23 p.m. Friday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South in Edgewood.
Arrangements are pending at Connley Brothers Funeral Home, Latonia.
Evelyn R. Barton, 76, of Newport, died Thursday in Newport.
She was a homemaker.
Her husband, William E. Barton, died in 1983.
Survivors include sons, William E. Barton Jr. and Richard L. Barton, both of Fort Thomas; a sister, Juanita Biddle of Erlanger; a brother, Paul Eckert of the state of North Carolina; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Services will be graveside at 9 a.m. Monday at Evergreen Cemetery, Southgate.
Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Muehlenkamp-Erschell Funeral Home, Fort Thomas.
Ralph Birkley, 72, of Dayton, died Friday at his residence.
He was a retired pressman with Schulte & Capal Co. in Cincinnati.
Survivors include his sister, Myrtle Keller of Fort Thomas.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Sacred Heart Church, Bellevue.
Visitation will be from 9 to 10 a.m. Tuesday at Muehlenkamp-Erschell Funeral Home, Dayton.
Memorials are suggested to St. Bernard Church, Dayton.
Robert 'Bob' Cleveland, 76, of Williamstown, died Friday at the University of Kentucky Medical Center in Lexington after heart surgery.
He was a retired truck driver.
Arrangements are pending at Woodhead Funeral Home, Berry.
Edna Huntington Crowe, 94, of Elsmere, died Thursday, at Woodcrest Care Center in Elsmere.
She worked at Union Central Life Insurance Co. in Cincinnati for more than 40 years and was a member of Erlanger United Methodist Church and the Girls Friendly Society at Christ Church in Cincinnati.
Her husband, Jack Crowe, died in 1950.
Survivors include her caregivers, Lou Shelton of Florence and Ronald Weidner and Mary Carol Weidner, both of Cincinnati.
Services will be at 3 p.m. Monday in the chapel at Forest Lawn Cemetery, Erlanger.
There will be no visitation.
Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Erlanger.

Dorothy Eileen DeJarnette, 74, of Latonia, died at 1:35 p.m. Friday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South in Edgewood.
She was a retired employee of Cincinnati Gas and Electric Co. in Cincinnati.
Survivors include son, Jeff R. DeJarnett of Covington; brother Lindsay Cardwell Jr. of Erlanger; and sisters, Jacqueline Schueschner of Cincinnati and Martha Deema Hugo of Jeffersonville, Ind.
Services will be at noon Tuesday at Connley Brothers Funeral Home, Latonia. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to noon at the funeral home.
Lewis Plunkett, 77, of Crittenden, died Thursday at the Grant Manor Health Care Center in Williamstown.
He was a mail carrier for the U.S. Postal Service and a member of the Crittenden Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Minnie Fornash Plunkett of Crittenden; daughters, Alice Covey and Louise Mason, both of Crittenden; sons, David Lewis Plunkett of Crittenden and William Ervin Plunkett of Corinth; 15 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the Elliston-Stanley Funeral Home, Crittenden.
Visitation will be from noon until 2 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery, Dry Ridge.

Eugene M. Schaengold,, 72, of Cincinnati, formerly of Dayton, died at 10 a.m. Sunday at Mercy Hospital Anderson.
He was the former owner of a variety store on Sixth Street in Dayton, a former member of the City Council and a member of the Avon-Miami Masonic Lodge 542.
Survivors include his wife, Patricia; a daughter, Cathy Vogt of Cincinnati; and one grandson.
Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, July 30, at the Jon Deitloff Funeral Centre, 4389 Spring Grove Ave., Cincinnati.
