Garnetta F. Flynn, softball coach

Garnetta F. Flynn was an athletic woman who shared her love of sports with girls at her church.

As a softball coach, an umpire and an unflagging cheerleader, Miss Flynn enjoyed helping youngsters reach their potential, said a sister, Wilma Wright of Independence.

"She was a big sports fan. She played fast-pitch softball in the 1950s," Mrs. Wright said.

Miss Flynn, 61, of Independence, died at 9:15 a.m. Monday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South in Edgewood.

She was a retired accounting clerk with Interlake Steel Corp. in Newport and was a member of First Christian Church in Covington.

Miss Flynn coached softball league teams. She was a member of the Women's Military Corps and also was a disabled Marine Corps veteran of the Vietnam War.

She visited friends in Ireland three times and traveled across the United States many times, her sister said.

Miss Flynn was born in Pendleton County and spent most of her life in Northern Kentucky. She enjoyed raising dogs and other animals and gave generously to various charities, her sister said.

"She has done a lot of different things. She was always busy," Mrs. Wright said.

Besides her sister, other survivors include a brother, William M. Flynn of Cincinnati; sisters, Evelyn Baldridge of Covingtonand Charlene Bowling, of Independence.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at First Christian Church, Covington. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 tonight at Allison and Rose Funeral Home, Covington, and from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday at the church. Burial will be in Floral Hills Cemetery, Taylor Mill. Memorials are suggested to First Christian Church, 14 W. Fifth St., Covington, Ky. 41011.

Mary Hite Armstrong, 78, of Covington, died Monday, at St. Elizabeth Medical Center North in Covington. She was a homemaker and a member of the First Baptist Church in Independence. She is preceded in death by her husband, Dutch Armstrong, in 1990.

Survivors include sons, Vernon Hite and Don Hite, both of Los Angeles; Jimmy Hamilton of Ocala, Fla.; and Danny Hamilton of New York City; daughters Judy Goldberg of Ocala, Fla. and Susan Benson of Cincinnati; brother, Clarence Edwards of Jacksonville, Fla.; sister, Maxine Zakacs of Wickliffe, Ohio; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 7 p.m. Thursday at Ronald B. Jones Funeral Home, Ludlow. Visitation will be Thursday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

Wilma Tarvin Black, 87, of Melbourne, died at 3:40 a.m. Tuesday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas. She was a homemaker. Her husband, Roy L. Black, died in 1991. A daughter, Martha McClain, died in 1995.

Survivors include a son, Ronald Black of Alexandria; daughters, Mary June Dennis of Silver Grove and Lois Jane Schoulthies of Butler; 14 grandchildren; and 26 great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Alexandria Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 tonight at the funeral home. Burial will be in Mount Gilead Cemetery, Carthage. Memorials are suggested to Hospice of Northern Kentucky, 1403 Alexandria Pike, Fort Thomas, Ky. 41075.

Rhonda M. "Roni" Brohaugh, 45, of Newport, died at noon Sunday at her home. She was an owner and vice president of Personnel Resources Inc., Newport.

Survivors include a daughter, Amy Zinser of Cincinnati; her mother, Donna Rymer of San Angelo, Texas; a brother, Daryl Rasmussen of Huntsville, Texas; sisters, Michelle Akins of Morrison, Colo., and Shannon Spindle of Midland, Texas; her fiance, Ray A. Rice of Newport; and one grandchild.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Allison and Rose Funeral Home, Covington. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Entombment will be in Highland Mausoleum, Fort Mitchell.

Dorothy A. Cryer, 72, of California, died at 6:35 p.m. Tuesday in her home. She worked in a cafeteria and was preceded in death by her husband, William Cryer, in 1972.

Survivors include sons, Don Cryer of Alexandria; Ron Cryer and Dan Cryer, both of California; daughters, Mary Kremer of California; Genny Pfefferman, Martha Witt and Billie Kramer, all of Alexandria; brother Albert Leick of Camp Springs; Christine Greis of Fort Thomas; Alma Ruschman of Camp Springs; Coletta Bucher of Bellevue; and 19 grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph Church, Camp Springs. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Alexandria Funeral Home, Alexandria. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Camp Springs.

Memorials are suggested to St. Joseph Camp Springs School Fund, P.O. Box 224, Four Mile Road, Camp Springs, Ky., 41059.

Dixie Coghill Dunn, 87, of Carrollton, died at 4:33 a.m. Tuesday at Green Valley Health Care Center in Carrollton. She was a homemaker and a member of Carrollton Christian Church. Her husband, Charles A. "Bo" Dunn, died in 1986.

Survivors include a sister, Daisy Williams of Indianapolis.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Graham-Dunn Funeral Home, Carrollton. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 tonight and from 10 a.m. Thursdayuntil the services at the funeral home. Burial will be in IOOF Cemetery, Carrollton. Memorials are suggested to Carrollton Christian Church, 310 Fifth St., Carrollton, Ky. 41008.

Gregory Thomas Ferring, 91, of Fort Wright, died at 1:45 p.m. Monday at St. Charles Care Center in Fort Wright. He was an owner of Acme Fence Co., Newport, and a World War II veteran.

Survivors include his wife, Marie Ferring; a son, William Ferring of Alexandria; a sister, Marie Remke of Louisville; two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Thomas Church, Fort Thomas. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Meuhelenkamp-Erschell Funeral Home, Fort Thomas. Burial will be in St. Stephen Cemetery, Fort Thomas. Memorials are suggested to Alzheimer's Disease Association, 644 Linn St., Cincinnati, Ohio 45203.

Richard "Lefty" Hughes, 86, of Florence, died Tuesday at the St. Luke Hospice Center in Covington.

Arrangements are pending at the Chambers and Grubbs Funeral Home, Florence.

Bill Johnson, 61, of Bromley, died Sunday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood. He was a retired construction worker.

Survivors include daughters, Cindy Johnson of Covington and Tina Mullins of Bromley; sons, William Shane Johnson of Covington and Andrew Johnson of Bromley; and five grandchildren.

Graveside services will be at noon Thursday at Linden Grove Cemetery, Covington. Memorials are suggested to William Johnson Trust Fund, in care of Huntington bank, 540 Madison Ave., Covington, Ky. 41011. Linnemann Funeral Home, Covington, is handling arrangements.

Daniel Wayne King, 54, of Morning View, died Monday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center North, Covington. He was a factory worker.

Survivors include his wife, Sally Magee King; sons, Daniel Martin King of Newport, Jeffery Wayne King of Falmouth, Thomas Wade King and Mat thew Ronald King, both of Morning View; a daughter, Sharon Greis of Newport; his mother, Mattie Foster of Morning View; a brother, Ernest King of Butler; and two granddaughters.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at TLC Cremation and Funeral Home, Covington. Visitation will begin there at noon Friday. Burial will be in Floral Hills Cemetery, Taylor Mill.

Emery Lucas, 88, of Augusta, died Monday at Augusta Health Care Center. He was a farmer and an elder at Chatham Church of Christ. He was a chairman of the local Red Cross chapter, a past county magistrate, a past president of the Farm Bureau and a former water commissioner.

Survivors include his wife, Florine Lucas; a son, Donnie Lucas of Brooksville; a brother, Paul Lucas of Newport; one grandson and two great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Chatham Church of Christ. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Moore and Parker Funeral Home, Brooksville. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Germantown. Memorials are suggested to Chatham Church of Christ, Augusta, Ky. 41002.

Angela C. Moser, 85, of Ludlow, died Monday at Kenwood Care Center, Cincinnati. She was a homemaker. Her husband, William Moser, died in 1980. Daughters, Kathleen Carrara and Lois Wetherict, also preceded her in death.

Survivors include her son, William J. Moser Jr. of Las Vegas; daughters, Angela Brockman of Erlanger and Mary Mullins of Elsmere; a sister, Mary Keller of Elsmere; 19 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Memorial Mass of Christian burial will be at 12:05 p.m. Saturday at Mother of God Church, Covington. Burial will be in Mother of God Cemetery, Fort Wright. Ronald B. Jones Funeral Home, Ludlow, is handling arrangements.

James Turner, 69, of Alexandria, died Monday at Veterans Administration Medical Center, Cincinnati. He was a retired assembler with Crawley Book Machine Co., Newport, and an Army veteran of the Korean War.

Survivors include his wife, Nannie Turner; brothers, George Turner and Dailey Turner, both of Newport, and Don Turner of Crestview; and sisters, Kathleen Aldridge of Fairfield, Ohio, Ina Lee Raleigh of Alexandria, Juanita Napier of Elsmere and Ruby Bush of Newport.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Cooper Funeral Home, Grants Lick. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 tonight at the funeral home. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery, Grants Lick.
