Jane Bankhardt Rice, gardener, devoted hospital volunteer
Her family, her friends and her flowers were Jane Bankhardt Rice's joy.
Often, she would arrange flowers and give them to friends.
"That was a real passion of hers, and she was really good at it," said her son, Gabe M. Rice of Fort Thomas. "I used to love to take her flowers in their raw state so she could arrange them."
Mrs. Rice, 80, of Fort Thomas, died Saturday at St. Luke Hospital East.
She was a homemaker and a member of Garden Club of Fort Thomas, the Ladies Auxiliary of St. Luke Hospital and the Episcopal Church Women at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church in Fort Thomas.
She was a daughter of Elmont V. Bankhardt, who owned a luggage store in Cincinnati, where she worked for a while. She attended Denison University in Granville, Ohio, and University of Cincinnati and was in the Kappa Alpha Theta sorority.
Mrs. Rice used to volunteer at the information desk at St. Luke Hospital East, helping visitors find their way around the hospi tal and updating people about their loved ones.
"She was really generous with her time and just reaching out to people who needed something," Mr. Rice said.
"It was continuous, a lot of small things. It was just her nature."
In addition to her son, survivors include her husband, Gabe E. Rice; son, Dr. Richard B. Rice, of Fort Thomas; a daughter, Christine Stadtmiller of Fort Thomas; sisters, Mary Knaebel of Fort Thomas and Betty Sue McCammish of Winchester; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at St. Andrews Episcopal Church. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Dobbling Funeral Home, Fort Thomas. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Southgate. Lisa Rene Bell, 30, of Walton, died Friday at St. Luke Hospital West, Florence.
Survivors include her parents, Donald Bell and Cheryl Moore, both of Walton; sisters, Nicole Bell and Shawna Bell, both of Walton; and a brother, Chad Bell of Walton.
Services will be at noon Tuesday at Cooper Funeral Home, Grants Lick. Visitation will be from 4 to 9 tonight at the funeral home. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery, Grants Lick.
Ellen Bernice Brown, 78, of Alexandria, died Sunday at Baptist Convalescent Center, Newport. She was a homemaker, and a member of Cold Spring Baptist Church and the Alexandria Happy 100 seniors group.
Survivors include her husband, James E. Brown; sons, Del G. Brown and Mark L. Brown, both of Alexandria, and Gerald L. Brown of Cincinnati; a daughter, Gayle M. Bruns of Cincinnati; a sister, Edith Brown of Wilder; brothers, Melvin Richter of Wilder and Wilburn Richter of Las Vegas; and five grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Dobbling Funeral Home, Fort Thomas. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Alexandria Cemetery. Helen Bryant, 80, of Fort Thomas, died Saturday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood. She was a homemaker and a member of Robinson Christian Church, Harrison County. Her husband, Fred Bryant, died in 1999. A son, Donald Bryant, also preceded her in death.
Survivors include daughters, Dorothy Memoli of Cincinnati, Sue McPeek of Fairfield, Ohio, and Sandy Bricking of Fort Mitchell; a son, Fred Bryant of Highland Heights; a brother, Jack Miller of Wilson, Okla.; 11 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Woodhead Funeral Home, Falmouth. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Pythian Grove Cemetery, Berry. Memorials are suggested to the charity of the donor's choice.
Bonnie Jean Chandler, 50, of Florence, died of cancer Saturday at her home.
Arrangements are pending at Stith Funeral Home, Florence.
Kathryn M. Davis, 79, of Nashville, Tenn., died at 1:53 p.m. Friday at Centennial Medical Center in Nashville. She was a retired insurance claims adjuster. Her husband, Frank Roland Davis, died in 1990.
Survivors include sons, Frank R. Davis of Fort Walton Beach, Fla., and David A. Davis of Canton, Mich.; daughters, Jean Gryglewski of Franklin, Tenn., and Cheryl Groh of Royal Oak, Mich.; a brother, Frank Dolwick of Boyne City, Mich.; seven grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Middendorf-Bullock Funeral Home, Hebron. Visitation will begin there at 9 a.m. Wednesday. Burial will be in Hebron Lutheran Cemetery.
Martin "Pint" Eisenman, 80, of Florence, died Friday at his home. He was a retired engineer with the Southern Railroad and an Army veteran of World War II.
Survivors include sons, David Eisenman of Rising Sun, Ind., and Rick Garnett of Independence; daughters, Judy Pohlman and Bonnie Feltner, both of Erlanger, Trudy Miskell of Burlington, and Vicki Prescott and Marta Eisenman, both of Florence; a sister, Geneva Wheeler of Florence; 14 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Kenneth John Ellis, 74, of Augusta, died Friday at Meadowview Regional Medical Center, Maysville. He was a retired maintenance worker with Clopay Corp., Augusta, a member of VFW Post No. 9535 in Augusta and an Army veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Alma Starrett Ellis; a son, Rick Bailey of Augusta; a daughter, Patricia S. Ellis of Augusta; a brother, Clayborne Ellis of Texas; two grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Ruth Malone Federer, 100, of Augusta, died at 2:10 a.m. Sunday at Augusta Health Care Center. She was a homemaker and a member of St. Augustine Church, Augusta. Her husband, Joseph H. Federer, died in 1957. A son, John I. Federer, also preceded her in death.
Survivors include daughters, Mary Jo Hause of Lexing ton and Judith P. Federer of Augusta; a brother, Thomas R. Malone of Augusta; a sister, Adele McCracken of Augusta; eight grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Nettie Bruin Glascock, 89, of Lexington, formerly of Cynthiana, died Saturday at St. Joseph Hospital in Lexington. She was a retired farmer and homemaker, and a member of Southland Christian Church, Cynthiana.
Survivors include a sister, Ethel Ramsey of Nicholas County; nieces and nephews.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Ware Funeral Home, Cynthiana. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Battle Grove Cemetery, Cynthiana.
Joseph H. Klatte Jr., 68, of Cincinnati, formerly of Covington, died Friday at Hospice of Cincinnati. He was an engineer with Cincinnati Bell Telephone, a member of the St. Joseph Men's Society of St. Teresa of Avila Church in Cincinnati, and an Army veteran.
Survivors include his wife, Shirley Hoffbauer Klatte; sons, Stephen J. Klatte of Cincinnati, Scott A. Klatte of Miamisburg, Md., and David J. Klatte of Denver; a brother, John Klatte of Maryland; and two grandchildren.

Thomas Burton Miller, 93, of Gulfport, Fla., formerly of Florence, died Friday at Fountains of Boca Ceiga Bay in St. Petersburg, Fla.
He was a maintenance worker with the Cincinnati Club, and a member of Pipefitters Union Local No. 392 in Cincinnati and Central Christian Church in St. Petersburg. His wife, Syvella Fay Miller, died in 1998.
Survivors include daughters, Evelyn Fay Smith of Burlington and Janet May Bley of Irvine, Calif.; a sister, Ora Neuhause of Jacksonville, Fla.; and one grandchild.

Alice Mae Nelson, 67, of California, died Sunday at her home. She was a homemaker and a member of Oakland United Methodist Church, Melbourne.
Survivors include her husband, Jacob Nelson; daughters, Becky Myers and Juanita Cooper, both of California; a sister, Ramona Woolsey of Uniontown; a brother, Tom Bush of Newport; and four grandchildren.

Broadus Edgar Nesbitt Jr., 63, of Brooksville, died at 12:37 p.m. Saturday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood. He was a farmer and a member of Powersville Baptist Church. Mr. Nesbitt also served on the board of Powersville Cemetery.
Survivors include his wife, Christina J. Nesbitt; a son, Kevin Edgar Nesbitt of Brooksville; and a sister, Barbara Mingua of Germantown.
