Mrs. Eilers made Sundays special
When Joyce Ellis was growing up, Sundays were filled with laughter and the smell of hot pot roast.
"Mom would always cook a huge meal every Sunday, and all our friends would come over," recalled Ms. Ellis, of Union.
Her mother, Rosemary Pat Eilers, 84, of Fort Wright, died Thursday at St. Luke Hospital West, Florence.
It wasn't unusual for 20 people to pile into the Eiler basement for the Sunday feasts.
"There were always big roasts and potatoes and gravy, and my mom made desserts," Ms. Ellis said.
The basement had a pinball machine and a pool table, and "it was just a party place," Ms. Ellis recalled.
Mrs. Eilers worked as a supervisor with the Internal Revenue Service.
Her husband, Robert Eilers, who had owned a grocery store at 15th and Greenup streets in Covington, died in 1973.
Mrs. Eilers also leaves daughters Janet Leadbeater of Crescent Springs, and Jeannine DiMuzio of Union; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Services will be at the convenience of the family.
Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Fort Mitchell.

Glenna M. Barrett, 80, of Hebron, died at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday at Lakeside Place Nursing Home, Highland Heights.
She was a homemaker and a member of Bullittsville Christian Church, Hebron.
Survivors include her husband, Estel Barrett; sons, Danny H. Barrett of Hamilton, Ohio, and Dale A. Barrett of Union; daughters, Betty J. Barrett of Florence and Edith M. Barrett of Hebron; a brother, Otto McDaniel of Orlando, Fla.; sisters, Cleo Carceek of Ohio, Lena Petrey of Fayetteville, N.C., Marie Howard of London, Ky., and George McQueen of Manchester; and five grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Middendorf-Bullock Funeral Home, Hebron.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Burial will be in Hopeful Lutheran Cemetery, Florence.

Harvey Cavill, 89, of Elsmere, died Sunday at St. Luke Hospital West, Florence.
He was a trustee and janitor with First Baptist Church of Elsmere.
His wife, Gertrude Cavill, preceded him in death.
Survivors include a daughter, Sue B. Cavill; and a niece, Nanny Tidwell.
Services will be at noon Saturday at First Baptist Church of Elsmere.
Visitation will begin there at 11 a.m. Saturday.
Burial will be in Highland Park Cemetery, Cincinnati.
Jamison and Jamison Funeral Home, Cincinnati, is handling arrangements.
Henry W. Claus, 73, of Bellevue, died Thursday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas.
He was a laborer with Hater Industries.
Survivors include a brother, Larry "Greg" Claus of Cincinnati, and a sister, Lee Ann Taylor of Covington.
No services are planned. Cremation Society of Cincinnati is handling arrangements.
Boyd B. "B. B." Helton, 72, of Corbin, died Wednesday at St. Joseph Hospital, Lexington.
He was the owner of H&H; Oil Co. and a member of First Christian Church and Trinity United Methodist Church, both in Corbin.
He was a member of the K-mart Coffee Club, an Army veteran of World War II and an Air Force veteran.
Survivors include his wife, Euna Walker Helton; a son, Boyd B. Helton II of London; daughters, Trudy Blankenship of Corbin and Joyce Steele of Burlington; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Corbin Funeral Home.
Visitation will be after 6 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Burial will be in Resthaven Cemetery, Corbin.

Matautuloa Lafoga, 58, of Florence, died July 20 at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood.
He was a shipping and receiving worker with Roofing Wholesale Co. Brothers, Manila Lafoga (1999), Tavoi Lafoga (1992) and Leni Lafoga (1984), all preceded him in death.
Survivors include his wife, Peiooe Lafoga; daughters; Fesuiaiga Sue Briggs of Erlanger, Millie Fetu of American Samoa, Fale Lafaele and Joyce Lafoga, both of Florence, and Lila Lattimore of Erlanger; sons, Junior Lafoga of Florence and Tui Lafoga of La Mesa, Calif.; brothers, Etimuli Lafoga of San Francisco, Sele Lafoga of San Diego and Lafoga Lafoga Jr. of Hawaii; sisters, Malika Faiai of San Diego, Lucy Fuega and Puni Magalei, both of American Samoa, and Millie Wells, Fea Tafulu and Maggie Falemai, all of Independence, Mo.; and 17 grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Stith Funeral Home, Florence.
Visitation will begin there at 1 p.m. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Erlanger.

Helen D. Schirmer, 69, of Warsaw, died Wednesday at St. Luke Hospital West, Florence.
She was a homemaker and a member of Big Bone Baptist Church, Boone County.
Survivors include her hus band, Robert Schirmer; daughters, Reba Gail Robinson, Melba Wheeler and Theresa Ping, all of Warsaw; sons, Thomas Ping of Glencoe, Bobby Ping, Glen Ping and Billy Ping, all of Sparta; her mother, Mary Floyd of Warsaw; brothers, Don Floyd of Glencoe, Mitchell Floyd of Verona, Harold Floyd of Philpot and Gerald Floyd of California; sisters, Sandy Wheeler of Sparta and Wanda Kelly of Willisburg; 18 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Carlton-Lowder Funeral Home, Warsaw.

Florence L. Fisk Schulker, 89, of Independence, died Thursday at her home.
She was a former customer service representative with Levi Strauss and a member of Goshen Christian Church, Morning View. Her husband, Edgar Schulker, died in 1970.
Survivors include a brother, Mackenzie Fisk of Erlanger; a sister, Etta Belle Fisk of Batesville, Ind.; nieces and nephews.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Chambers and Grubbs Funeral Home, Independence.
Visitation will begin there at 9 a.m. Saturday. Burial will be in Wilmington Cemetery.
Royce J. Stambaugh, 52, of Covington, died Wednesday at Christ Hospital, Cincinnati.

Rowena Vice Webb, 88, of Williamstown, died at 10 p.m. Thursday at her residence.
Arrangements are pending at Elliston-Stanley Funeral Home, Williamstown.
Robert Allan Wood, 90, of Augusta, died Thursday at Augusta Health Care Center.
He was a retired line foreman with Kentucky Utilities Electric Co. and a member of Augusta Church of the Nazarene.
He also was a member of the church Sam Group. His wife, Cleo Wood, died in 1978.
A daughter, Joyce Galbreath, also preceded him in death.
Survivors include a daughter, Billie Scott of Augusta; a son, Robert E. Wood of Augusta; brothers, Donald Wood and Charles Wood, both of Pittsburgh; seven grandchildren, four great-grandsons and one great-great-granddaughter.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Metcalfe-Hennessey Funeral Home, Augusta.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
