Freda Rose Stevie, a 'great mom'
Freda Rose Luther Stevie lived a full life. A life full of family, friends and accomplishments. Like the flowers she loved so much, Mrs. Stevie brought color and happiness to the lives of those around her.
Mrs. Stevie, 88, of Fort Thomas, died at 6 p.m. Wednesday at Carmel Manor Nursing Home. She was a past president of the Thomas More College Alumni Association and a member of the Thomas More College Women's Association.
Mrs. Stevie's sons remember her as a very special person who took pride in everything she did, especially her flowers.
"She loved plants, she had a green thumb," said a son, Richard Stevie of Cincinnati.
"Her favorite flowers were African violets and roses."
Her sons also fondly remember her collecting things throughout the years. "She loved to collect everything," said another son, Frederick A. Stevie of Orlando, Fla.
Mrs. Stevie was a resident at Carmel Manor Nursing Home. She served as co-chair for fund-raising events at Carmel Manor and enjoyed playing bridge.
"She had an interest in doing things with other people, and she liked being involved in a number of organizations," said a third son, Robert Stevie of Cincinnati.
All three sons said their mother was a remarkable woman.
"She was just a great mom," Richard Stevie said.
Other survivors include her husband, Robert J. Stevie; and six grandchildren.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Anthony Church, Bellevue. Visitation will be from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Muehlenkamp-Erschell Funeral Home, Dayton, followed by prayers at 10:30 a.m. Burial will be in St. Stephen Cemetery, Fort Thomas. Memorials are suggested to Carmel Manor, 100 Carmel Manor Road, Fort Thomas, Ky. 41075.
Norma L. Burnside Baldwin, 86, of Lakeside Park, died at 10:45 p.m. Wednesday at St. Charles Care Center, Fort Wright. She was a retired legal secretary with the Frost and Jacobs law firm in Cincinnati, and a member of Immanuel United Methodist Church, Lakeside Park.
Survivors include her husband, Lloyd W. Baldwin; daughters, Deborah Ann Pyle and Sarah Baldwin Dirr, both of Cincinnati; and two grandchildren.
Private services will be at the convenience of the family. Entombment will be in Highland Mausoleum, Fort Mitchell. Memorials are suggested to St. Charles Care Center, 500 Farrell Drive, Fort Wright, Ky. 41011. Allison and Rose Funeral Home, Taylor Mill, is handling arrangements.
Elaine Helen Breuer, 70, of Florence, died Wednesday at Woodspoint Nursing Home in Florence. She was an employee of the Miller Shoe Co.
Survivors include sisters, Dorothy Jean Harmeling of Elsmere, Marylyn M. Harmeling of Lakeside Park and Marty C. Vogt of Florence; and a brother, Louis B. Vogt Jr. of Florence.
Memorial Mass will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Paul Church, Florence. Memorials are suggested in the form of spiritual bouquets or Masses. Stith Funeral Home, Florence, is handling arrangements.
Mamie Hacker, 80, of Florence, died Wednesday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood. She was a homemaker and a member of Kento-Boo Baptist Church in Florence, where she was a former Sunday school teacher and a member of the church building committee.
Survivors include her husband, Henry S. Hacker; a son, Steve Hacker of Florence; a daughter, Annette Martin of Ellenwood, Ga.; and four grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Kento-Boo Baptist Church. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 tonight at Stith Funeral Home, Florence. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Erlanger. Memorials are suggested to Kento-Boo Baptist Church, 634 Kentoboo Ave., Florence, Ky. 41042.
Sudie Simms Denton Kidwell, 84, of Florence, died Wednesday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas. She was a retired factory worker with Equitable Bag Co. and a member of Woodhaven Baptist Church, Burlington. Her husband, Raymond W. Denton, died in 1972. A son, Wayne D. Denton, died in 1986. A stepdaughter, Bonnie J. Wendel, died in 1995.
Survivors include daughters, Phyllis J. Oles of Branson, Mo., Joyce A. Neack of Florence and Linda C. Hoffman of Independence; a stepson, Raymond E. Denton of Independence; 19 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Chambers and Grubbs Funeral Home, Florence. Visitation will be from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery, Fort Mitchell. Edna Branaman O'Connell, 68, of Park Hills, died at 11:21 a.m. Thursday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood. She was a homemaker and a member of Trinity Episcopal Church, Covington.
Survivors include sons, Jerry O'Connell of Clovis, N.M., Edwin L. O'Connell Jr. of Newport and John O'Connell of Park Hills; daughters, Joni Forrester and Carol Carr, both of Covington; a brother, Everett Branaman of Cincinnati; nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Allison and Rose Funeral Home, Covington. Visitation will be from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery, Fort Mitchell. Memorials are suggested to Trinity Episcopal Church, 316 Madison Ave., Covington, Ky. 41011.
Ida Ritchie, 67, of Ewing, died at 4 p.m. Wednesday at Meadowview Regional Medical Center, Maysville. She was a former employee of Kachler Auction House, Huntington House Smorgasbord and Aberdeen, Ohio, and formerly operated the Thoroughbred Grill in Mays Lick. She was a member of Maysville Church of the Nazarene.
Survivors include her husband, Truman Ritchie; a son, Tommy Ritchie of Dayton, Ohio; a daughter, Linda Stephens of Harrogate, Tenn.; brothers, Alvin Pollitt of Dayton and Dale Ward of Utah; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Palmer Funeral Home, Mays Lick. Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Mays Lick Cemetery. Edgar "Phil" Short, 79, of Covington, died Thursday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center North in Covington.

Thurman Simmons, 72, of Florence, died Monday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center North, Covington. He was a construction worker. Services will be at noon Saturday at Joseph R. Garr Funeral Home, Cincinnati. Visitation will begin there at 11 a.m. Saturday. Burial will be in Mary Smith Cemetery, Elsmere.
Robert Levi Snow Jr., 72, of Carrollton, died Wednesday at Veterans Administration Medical Center in Louisville. He was a taxi driver with White Top Taxi Co. in Carrollton, a member of American Legion Post No. 41 in Carrollton, and an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Agnes Louise Snow; sons, Bobby Howard Snow of Tennessee and Troy Dale Snow of Car rollton; a stepson, Duncan Johnson of Carrollton; a sister, Alberta Robinson of Warsaw; a brother, Melvin Snow of Ghent; six grandchildren and five step-grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Tandy-Eckler-Riley Funeral Home, Carrollton. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Burial will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Lebanon, Ky., National Cemetery.
Cannon Sowder, 82, of Williamstown, died at 3:35 p.m. Wednesday at his home. He was a farmer and carpenter, and a member of Williamstown Baptist Church and Woodmen of the World, and an Army veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Frances Vallandingham Sowder; sons, Joseph M. Sowder of Beavercreek, Ohio, and Gerald T. Sowder of Crittenden; a daughter, Laura Katherine Sowder of Williamstown; brothers, Emerson K. "Pete" Sowder of Williamstown and Kenneth Sowder of Lexington; sisters, Josephine Underwood of Dry Ridge, Wanda Colley of Waycross, Ga., Joyce Palmer of Wilmington, Del., and Emma Jean Beckham of Will iamstown; four grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Elliston-Stanley Funeral Home, Williamstown. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 tonight at the funeral home. Burial will be in Hill Crest Cemetery, Dry Ridge. Clifford Tyler Strunk, 80, of Newport, died Wednesday at his home. He was a retired truck driver and an Army veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Strunk; a son, Harold B. Strunk of Alexandria; a brother, Donald C. Strunk of Cincinnati; sisters, Callene Walsh and Edith Paul of Dayton, Ohio, and Betty Jo Boyter of California; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Radel Funeral Home, Highland Heights. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 tonight at the funeral home. Entombment will be in St. Stephen Mausoleum, Fort Thomas.
Christine Antrobus Wood ley, 81, of Morrow, Ohio, formerly of Williamstown, died at 11:10 p.m. Wednesday at Mason Christian Village Health Care Center, Mason, Ohio. She was a retired employee of General Electric in Cincinnati, and a member of Church of Christ, Wilmington, Ohio. She was a former Sunday school teacher at the church.
Survivors include her husband, Lester J. Goodley; brothers, Howard Antrobus of Covington, Emerson Antrobus of Union and Everett Antrobus of Alexandria; and sisters, Evaleen Epperson of Burlington and Wanda Turner of Covington.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Mason Christian Village Chapel, Mason, Ohio. Visitation will begin there at 10 a.m. Monday. Burial will be at 3 p.m. Monday at Williamstown Cemetery.
