Russell S. Story was a devoted father, loved gospel music
Russell S. Story was devoted to his family.
A daughter, Lois Palmer of Erlanger, remembers her father's love for her mother, Virginia Teegarden Story, who died in 1993. Mr. Story and his wife were married
for 58 years.
His health declined considerably after his wife's death, his daughter said.
"It was a terrible blow to him," she said.
Mr. Story, 92, of Florence, died at 10:58 p.m. Thursday at St. Luke Hospital West in Florence. He was a retired evaporator operator for the former Drackett/Windex Co., Cincinnati, and was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church.
Mrs. Palmer remembers her moth er and father listening to gospel music.
Mr. Story also enjoyed the Cincinnati Reds and was a lifetime fan. Mrs. Palmer said her father took her son, Keith Hall of Florence, to a World Series game in 1972. The Reds played Baltimore.
"That was a highlight for both of them," she said.
Mrs. Palmer also remembers her father telling stories about her childhood. When she was born, Mr. Story was building a dam in Missouri. When she was older, the family took a vacation to Missouri and visited the dam.
Other survivors include a son, James Story of Covington; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Allison and Rose Funeral Home, Covington. Visitation will begin at 1 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Burial will be in Concord Cemetery, Bracken County. Memorials are suggested to Immanuel Baptist Church, 20th and Greenup streets, Covington, Ky. 41014.
Pearl Adams, 79, of Covington, died at 6:45 a.m. Friday at her home. She was a homemaker. Her husband, John B. Adams, died in 1968.
Survivors include sons, Jesse Abney and Bennett D. Adams, both of Covington, and John B. Adams of Berea; daughters, Louise Shirley of Florence, Marcella Speer of DeLand, Fla., and Stella Brown of Covington; brothers, Elmer Abney of Covington and William Abney of Mount Vernon; a sister, Ida Johnson of Mount Washington; 18 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Allison and Rose Funeral Home, Covington, with visitation from 11 a.m. Burial will be in Linden Grove Cemetery, Covington. Memorials are suggested to St. Elizabeth Medical Center South Hospice, 1 Medical Village Drive, Crestview Hills, Ky. 41017.
Celesta Louise Askin, 76, of Falmouth, died Thursday at Harrison Memorial Hospital in Cynthiana. She was a housekeeper for several families in Falmouth and worked as a custodian for Falmouth Wesleyan Church, where she was a member.
Survivors include her husband, Emmett Askin of Falmouth; daughters, Crystal Abercrombie of Falmouth and Cathy Gosney of Florence; a son, Charles Askin of Falmouth; sisters, Capitola Todd and June Fredericks of Brooksville; a brother, Buck Smith of Brooksville; three grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Woodhead Funeral Home, Falmouth, with visitation from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Falmouth. Memorials are suggested to Falmouth Wesleyan Church, Monument Street, Falmouth, Ky. 41040.
Pauline Bartlett, 79, of Covington, died Thursday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South in Edgewood. She was a homemaker and worked for the former Anchor Products, Florence.
Her husband, Carl Bartlett, died in 1993. Survivors include a son, H.C. Bartlett of Covington; sisters, Odell Davenport of Lebanon, Tenn., and Marguerite Bowen of Murfreesboro, Tenn.; and two grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Middendorf-Bullock Funeral Home, Ludlow, with visitation from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Erlanger. Raymond E. Bates Sr., 80, of Turners Station, died Thursday at Tri-County Baptist Hospital in La Grange. He was a farmer and a member of Port Royal Baptist Church. His first wife, Dorothy Frances Tingle Bates, died in 1952. His second wife, Bessie Mae Goldsberry Bates, died in 1990. Survivors include daughters, Joan Taylor of Madison, Ind., Carolyn Brown of Nicholasville and Judy Taylor of Campbellsburg; sons, Raymond E. "Buster" Bates Jr. of Worthville, Noble E. Bates of Sanders and Michael Lee Bates of Port Royal; brothers, Leon Bates and Robert Bates, both of Carrollton; eight grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Tandy-Eckler-Riley Funeral Home, Carrollton, with visitation from 5 to 8 tonight. Burial will be in Port Royal Cemetery. Boyd E. Clark, 79, of Vanceburg, formerly of Bracken County, died Thursday at his home. He was a farmer and a member of Germantown Christian Church. Survivors include several nieces and nephews.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Palmer Funeral Home, Germantown, with visitation from 1 p.m. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Germantown.
Jerome "Mack" Demoss, 59, of Southgate, died May 29 at his home. He was former owner of Four Mile Inn, Camp Springs, and a retired Army sergeant.
Survivors include sisters, Judy Hurd of Highland Heights and Deborah Blevins of Melbourne.
Services will be at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in Mount Gilead Cemetery, Carthage. Cooper Funeral Home, Grants Lick, is handling arrangements.
Catherine M. "Brownie" Braun Downing, 72, of Alexandria, died at 6 a.m. Thursday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas. She was a homemaker and a member of Happy 100s and St. Mary Seniors.
Survivors include her husband, Raymond D. Downing; a daughter, Pam Schneider of Alexandria; a brother, Lawrence Braun of Cincinnati; a sister, Stella Anderson of Fort Thomas; and two grandchildren.

Claude Estep, 77, of Richwood, Ohio, formerly of Bracken County, died Friday at Marion General Hospital in Richwood. He was a retired operator engineer and an Army veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Frances E. Jones Estep; a daughter, Barbara McCracken of Richwood, Ohio; brothers, Andy Estep of Cincinnati, Wilbert Estep and Roger Estep of Felicity, Ohio, Herb Estep of Mount Orab, Ohio, Leo Estep and Billy Estep of Blanchester, Ohio, Emmery Estep of South Carolina and Morris Estep of Walton; a sister, Essie Welch of Maysville; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Jay W. Eversole, 66, of Greencastle, Ind., formerly of Ryland Heights, died Wednesday at Putnam County Hospital in Greencastle. He was a retired conductor for Conrail Railroad Co. and a member of Brotherhood of Railroad Trainmen and Jockeys International Guild.
Survivors include sons, Steven Eversole of Louisville and James Eversole of Erlanger; daughters, Shirley Naive of Independence, Pamela Riner of Indianapolis, Vickie Zimmerman of Erlanger and Patty Melton of Ryland Heights; 17 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Allison and Rose Funeral Home, Taylor Mill, with visitation from noon. Burial will be in Floral Hills Cemetery, Taylor Mill.
Ray C. Higgins, 61, of Sparta, died Thursday at St. Luke Hospital West in Florence. He was a self-employed marine mechanic.
Survivors include his wife, Linda Kinman Higgins; daughters, Lisa Burden of Warsaw and Joy Hopkins of Sparta; sons, Kenny Higgins of Warsaw and Preston Snell of Florence; brothers, Clifford Higgins and Clifton Higgins of Warsaw; sisters, Mae Wallace and Shirley Chipman of Warsaw and Faye Biddle of Lexington; and six grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Carlton-Lowder Funeral Home, Warsaw, with visitation from 5 to 9 p.m. Saturday. Burial will be in Napoleon Cemetery.
Daisy Cracraft Holland, 94, of Elk Grove Village, Ill., formerly of Mason County, died Thursday at Life Link Nursing Home in Elk Grove. She was a homemaker and a member of Milan, Ind., United Methodist Church. Her husband, Hal B. Holland, and a son, Hal B. Holland Jr., both preceded her in death. Survivors include a daughter, Agnes Waite of Elk Grove, Ill.; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Bethel United Methodist Church, Mason County. Burial will be in Bethel Cemetery. Palmer Funeral Home, Mays Lick, is handling arrangements.
Sylvia Covington Holoch, 91, of Erlanger, died Thursday at Village Care Center in Erlanger. She was a homemaker and home-care nurse and a member of Alexandria Church of Christ. Her husband, Richard Hol och, preceded her in death. Survivors include a daughter, Gloria Morris of Crestview Hills; a son, Carl Holoch of Paris; four grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Peoples Funeral Home, Falmouth, with visitation from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday. Burial will be in Peach Grove Cemetery, Pendleton County.
James W. Holthaus, 67, of Lexington, formerly of Dayton and Fort Thomas, died Friday at Central Baptist Hospital, Lexington. He was a former installation employee for Arctic Air Conditioning and Heating Co. and an Army veteran. He was a member of the Lions Club. Survivors include a brother, Thomas J. Holthaus of Fort Mitchell.
A memorial Mass will be held at a later date in Lexington. W.R. Milward Mortuary, Lexington, is handling arrangements.
Mary Agnes Burke Knorr, 82, of Covington, died Thursday at Rosedale Manor in Latonia. She was a retired waitress for the Kentucky Club, Covington, and Olstners, Park Hills, as well as several other restaurants. Her first husband, Charles Burke, died in 1978. Her second husband, Thomas Knorr, died in 1980.
Survivors include a son, Bill Burke of Erlanger; sisters, Loretta Krey of Edgewood, Francis Lueke of Fort Wright and Patricia Cahill-Ketron of Crescent Springs; five grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, six great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be at noon Monday at Forest Lawn cemetery chapel, Erlanger, with visitation from 11 a.m Memorials are suggested to the American Heart Association, 1885 Dixie Highway, Suite 250, Fort Wright, Ky. 41011; or American Cancer Society, 6612 Dixie Highway, Suite 2, Florence, Ky. 41042.
Norvin David Martin, 55, formerly of Carrollton, died Friday at GlenCare Health Care Facility, Cincinnati. He was a member of Carrollton United Pentecostal Church.
Survivors include sisters, Linda Phillips and Mamie Wallace of Carrollton, and Pam Rigsby of Russellville.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Carrollton United Pentecostal Church, with visitation from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at Tandy-Eckler-Riley Funeral Home, Carrollton. Burial will be in IOOF Cemetery, Carrollton.
James Keller Porter, 56, of Cynthiana, died Wednesday at his home. He was an Army veteran of the Vietnam War. Survivors include sons, Jared Porter of Richmond and Aaron Porter of Cynthiana; and a sister, Lucy Sutterlin of Beavercreek, Ohio.
Private services will be held at a later date. Ware Funeral Home, Cynthiana, is handling arrangements.
Virginia Davis Rees, 79, of Brooksville, died Thursday at her home. She was a homemaker and a member of Brooksville Christian Church. She was a volunteer for the American Cancer Society. Her husband, Glenn M. Rees, died in 1995.
Survivors include a son, Richard Rees of Brooksville.
Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at Brooksville Cemetery. Metcalfe-Hennessey Funeral Home, Augusta, is in charge.
Helen C. Jacobs Smith, 97, of Park Hills, died Friday at her daughter's home in Crestview Hills. She was a homemaker and a member of First United Methodist Church, Covington. Her husband, James Allen Smith Sr., died in 1971. A son, James-Allen Smith Jr., died in 1999.
Survivors include a daughter, Barbara Weichhand of Crestview Hills; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Cecelia Taravella, 68, of Cold Spring, died Tuesday at St. Luke Hospital East in Fort Thomas. She was a homemaker and a member of Fairlane Baptist Church.
Survivors include sons, Joe Taravella of Fort Thomas, Jim Taravella of Melbourne and David Taravella of Covington; and five grandchildren.
