Eugene J. 'Gene' Otte was there for family
Relatives of Eugene J. "Gene" Otte knew they could always count on him.
"He was always there for the family," said a son, David Otte of Erlanger. "He liked being around the family. He enjoyed playing games and being with the grandkids."
Mr. Otte, 82, of Elsmere, died at 8:45 a.m. Friday at Florence Park Care Center.
He was a retired railroad service technician at Union Terminal, Cincinnati, and an Army veteran of World War II.
Mr. Otte also was a member of Ralph Fulton VFW Post No. 6423, Elsmere, where he was a former chaplain; American Legion Simon Kenton Post No. 20; and Father Bealer Knights of Columbus Council No. 3908, Elsmere.
Mr. Otte, who went to work to help his family during the great depression, never went to high school.
But he and his wife, Thelma Bergelt Otte, made sure their seven children were well-educated.
All of their children have college degrees.
"They always wanted us to go through school," said David Otte, the principal of St. Henry High School in Erlanger.
Mr. Otte enjoyed gardening and stamp collecting. He and his wife were married
57 years.
Besides his wife and son, other survivors include sons, Theodore Otte and Ron Otte, both of Florence, Thomas Otte of Fort Mitchell, and Lee Otte and David Otte, both of Erlanger; daughters, Jeannine Kreinbrink of Union and Carol Otte of Elsmere; a brother, Jim Otte of Brunswick, Ga.; a sister, Rosemary Groger of Edgewood; and 16 grandchildren.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Henry Church, Elsmere.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at Linnemann Funeral Home, Erlanger.
Burial will be in Mother of God Cemetery, Fort Wright.
Memorials are suggested to St. Henry District High School Scholarship Fund, 3755 Scheben Drive, Erlanger, Ky. 41018.
Mila Mae Profitt Adams, 82, of Alexandria, died Friday at Lakeside Convalescent Center in Highland Heights.
She was a homemaker and a member of Fairlane Baptist Church, Grants Lick, Sun Valley Senior Citizens, and Order of Eastern Star, Alexandria.
Her husband, Belve Adams, died in 1993.
Survivors include sons, Roger Adams of Pensacola, Fla., and Ted Adams of Alexandria; daughters, Phyllis Jo Hitch of Alexandria and Geneva Bens of Finneytown, Ohio; brothers, Willie Eugene Profitt of Clay City, and Lawrence Profitt and Eulis Profitt, both of Winchester; sisters, Pauline Lojinger of Cincinnati, Shirley Young of Lexington, and Ila P. Whisman and Irene Hatton, both of Winchester; 13 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Cooper Funeral Home, Grants Lick.
Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Burial will be in Alexandria Cemetery.
Leota Mae Ayres, 88, of New Liberty, died Friday at Owenton Manor.
She was a homemaker and a member of New Liberty Baptist Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Elizabeth Ayres Prewitt of New Liberty; and a brother, Sherman McClain of Olney, Ill.
Services will be at 6 p.m. Sunday at McDonald Funeral Home, Seminary Street, Owenton.
Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Burial will be in IOOF Cemetery, Owenton.
Sarah A. Cole Baker, 56, of Cold Spring, died Thursday at her residence.
She was a tax examiner for the IRS in Covington.
She was a member of Summit Church of Christ in Cold Spring.
Survivors include her husband, Kenneth Baker of Cold Spring; a daughter, Renee Herald of Cold Spring; her mother, Mabel Riley of Middletown, Ohio; sisters, Ruth Reynolds of Cold Spring and Wilma Cole of Jackson; and two grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Watts Funeral Home, Jackson.
Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Burial will be in Buck Herald Cemetery, Breathitt County. Cooper Funeral Home, Grants Lick, is handling local arrangements.
Karen S. Binder, 51, of Altamonte Springs, Fla., formerly of Independence, died Tuesday at Florida Altamonte Hospital.
She worked in hospitality management and was a member of the Church of the Annunciation, Altamonte Springs.
Survivors include a sister, Rosemary Prather of Altamonte Springs; and a brother, Elwood Binder of Altamonte Springs.
Mass of Christian burial was Friday at Church of the Annunciation, Altamonte Springs. Burial was in Highland Memory Gardens, Apopka, Fla. Memorials are suggested to Susan B. Winifred I. Craig, 92, of Cincinnati, died at 2:55 p.m. Friday at the Kenwood Terrace Nursing Center, Kenwood, Ohio.
Arrangements are pending at Middendorf-Bullock Funeral Home, Covington.
Steven P. Meade, 50, of Taylor Mill, died at 11:23 a.m. Friday at his residence.
He was a sheet metal worker and an Army veteran of the Vietnam War.
Survivors include his parents, Palmer and Esther Meade of Taylor Mill; brothers, Gerald W. Meade of Crittenden and Michael E. Meade of Union; sisters, Theresa L. Daly of Crittenden, Diane E. Specht of Independence, Denise L. Frey of Hebron, Brenda K. Beekman of Park Hills, Rena M. Lawson of Florence and Kim J. Whitney of Cincinnati.

Larry Dale Stith, 32, of Gardnersville, died Thursday in Hebron as a result of a construction accident.
