Chester Ripato, machinist, grocer
Chester Ellis Ripato owned a grocery store and enjoyed serving his customers.
Mr. Ripato, a Lewis County native, ran Ripato's Grocery in Tollesboro for about nine years in the late 1960s and 1970s. Before opening his store he was a machinist for many years in Dayton, Ohio.
A daughter, Sandra Burgy of Fairborn, Ohio, said her father enjoyed having his own business.
"He was kind of quiet, but he could be outspoken when he had to be," Ms. Burgy said.
Mr. Ripato, 78, of Maysville, died at 12:08 p.m. Tuesday at Veterans Administration Medical Center in Lexington.
He was a member, deacon emeritus and Sunday school teacher with Central Baptist Church in Maysville. He was an Army veteran of World War II.
Mr. Ripato enjoyed fishing, his daughter said.
Other survivors include his wife, Cordellia Hall Ripato; another daughter, Sheila Roution of Angelton, Texas; a brother, Ray Ripato of Maysville; sisters, Betty Lou Witte of Winchester, Geneva Hanawalt of Flemingsburg, Wanda Clark of Philadelphia, Jessie Lykins of Piketon, Ohio, and Anna Mae Reed of Louisville, Miss.; and two grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Brell and Son Funeral Home, Maysville. Visitation will be after 6 p.m. today at the funeral home. Burial will be in Washington Baptist Cemetery. Earl R. Eckler, of Cynthiana, was found dead Tuesday at his home. He was a retired tobacco farmer and a member of Colemansville Christian Church. His wife, Gladys Howard Eckler, preceded him in death.
Survivors include sons, Ross Eckler of Hamilton, Ohio, Alvin Eckler of Fleming County, David Eckler of Nicholas County, Danny Eckler and Dale Eckler, both of Harrison County; a daughter, Carolyn Godman of Corinth; 17 grandchildren; and 30 great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Ware Funeral Home, Cynthiana. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 tonight at the funeral home. Burial will be in Pythian Grove Cemetery, Harrison County.
Margaret LaVerna Gibson, 79, of Florence, died Tuesday at Woodspoint Nursing Home in Florence. She was a retired homemaker and a member of Sherman Full Gospel Assembly in Dry Ridge and Walton Senior Citizens.
Survivors include sons, Michael Beach of Tennessee and William J. Garish of Easey, S.C.; daughters, Margie C. Quinn of Sicklerville, N.J., and Judy Roedersheimer of Florence; a brother, Gene Armstrong of Phoenix; sisters, Cleo Shelton of Cincinnati and Libby Brosmorer of Covington; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be at 5 p.m. today at Gardnersville Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Margaret Gibson Memorial, in care of Judy Roedersheimer, 1387 Afton Drive, Florence, Ky. 41042. Eckler-Hudson Funeral Home, Dry Ridge, is handling arrangements.
Robert W. Jarman, 82, of Latonia, died Wednesday at his home. He was a power-line repairman with Cincinnati Gas & Electric Co. His wife, Leona Sims Jarman, died in 1982.
Survivors include sons, William M. Jarman of Covington and Fred Jarman of Latonia; a brother, Claude Leo Jarman of Hebron; sisters, Gladys Ernst of Hebron and Anna Nocero of Covington; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Middendorf-Bullock Funeral Home, Covington. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Erlanger.
Walter "Boots" Noel, 72, of Dry Ridge, died Tuesday at his home. He was a retired maintenance worker with Cincinnati Terminal Warehouse and a former employee of Riverside Ford, Newport. He was an Army veteran of World War II. His wife, Virginia Orr Noel, died in 1984. A son, Gary Thomas Noel, died in 1970.
Survivors include sons, Da vid W. Noel of Glencoe and John L. Gentsch of Covington; daughters, Ruthie Jones and Dottie Gullion, both of Shelbyville, Ind., Linda Haubner and Donna Bolton, both of Walton, Sharon Huffman and Pam Thompson, both of Verona, Carol Noel of Dry Ridge, Susan Martin of Williamstown and Janie Elam of Glencoe; brothers, Bill Webster and Robert "Bud" Webster, both of Dry Ridge; a sister, Christine Blackburn of Crescent Springs; 36 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Hamilton-Stanley Funeral Home, Verona. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 tonight at the funeral home. Burial will be in New Bethel Cemetery, Verona.
Mary Patricia Overbeck, 51, of Wesley Chapel, Fla., formerly of Covington, died Friday at East Pasco Medical Center in Zephyrhills, Fla. She was an executive secretary in the construction industry.
Survivors include her husband, Dale Overbeck; a son, Matthew Overbeck of Tuscaloosa, Ala.; a daughter, Kristina Lopes of Plymouth, England; her parents, Thomas and Elsie McGlone of Fort Mitchell; a brother, John McGlone of Crestview; a sister, Carol McGlone of Crestview; and two grandchildren.
Memorial Mass will be at 9 a.m. May 22 at Holy Cross Church, Latonia. Whitfield Funeral Home, Zephyrhills, is handling arrangements.
George E. Ries, 74, of Cape Coral, Fla., formerly of Fort Thomas, died Wednesday at his home.
Arrangements are pending at Dobbling Funeral Home, Fort Thomas.
William E. Sturgil, 67, of Latonia, died Sunday at his home. He was a retired technician with the Bureau of Alco hol, Tobacco and Firearms, a member of Madison Avenue Baptist Church and an Army veteran of the Korean War.
Survivors include brothers, Robert Sturgil Sr. of Cold Spring and Joe T. Sturgil of Edmond, Okla.; nieces and nephews.
Services will be at noon Friday at Swindler and Currin Funeral Home, Latonia. Visitation will begin there at 10 a.m. Friday. Burial will be in in Pleasant View Church Cemetery, Bromley. Memorials are suggested to the charity of the donor's choice.
