J. Patrick Barth gave to community, but family was first
J. Patrick Barth was a man who knew his priorities: Family always came first.
But that doesn't mean he didn't contribute a lot of time and effort to his community. His family said he always made time to make their world a better place.
Mr. Barth, 72, of Florence, died Friday at his home. He retired as general manager of Johnson Controls Plastic Division in Columbus, Ohio, in 1992.

In that position he was instrumental in establishing the Dixie Police Authority and the Northern Kentucky Area Planning and Zoning Commission.
"He wasn't like a big politician," said his wife. "He just joined council because he was interested in the area he lived in."
Mr. Barth also was interested in sports, and was a baseball and softball player in the Catholic War Veterans league in the late 1940s and early 1950s. For his contributions to those teams, he was inducted into the Northern Kentucky Sports Hall of Fame.
His son, Joseph Barth of Nashville, Tenn., said his dad also was active in the sports his children participated in and took time to play a leadership role with some of their teams.
"He was a great dad," his son said. "He coached for Dixie Area Knothole and Raiders football. He was involved in every aspect of our lives and the grandkids' lives. He knew his priorities. Family was always first. He taught me the importance of family and making sure to keep it all in perspective."
