'Colonel' Cecil Wayman was real estate developer
"Colonel" Cecil A. Wayman of Taylor Mill operated his own real estate brokerage and auctioneering firm for more than 50 years.
He recently was recognized by the Kentucky Real Estate Commission for his work with Col. Wayman and Associates Real Estate Co. "Colonel" was more than a throwaway title to him.
"Cecil was named a Kentucky Colonel when few such titles were available, and it just stuck," said his wife, Marlene Wayman. "His Colonel tie became a proud trademark."
Mr. Wayman, 64, died Tuesday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South in Edgewood.
Mr. Wayman, a native of Independence, was one of the area's first developers and built more than 50 homes in the Independence and Taylor Mill area.
During the 1940s, he was the announcer on a popular country- western music radio program on WZIP.
Mr. Wayman had been a member of the Latonia Baptist Church since 1948, serving as a deacon, trustee and Sunday school teacher.
Other survivors include a son, RelCecil Wayman of Covington; daughters, Francine Wayman of Taylor Mill and Jeannine Schulte of Covington; sisters, Ethel Hatfield of Fort Wright and Mildred Thomas of Crescent Springs; and three grandchildren.
Services will be at noon Saturday at Latonia Baptist Church. Visitation will begin there at 10 a.m. Saturday. Burial will be in Independence Cemetery.

William Barth, 85, of Latonia, died Wednesday at St. Elizabeth Hospice Unit, Covington.

Hilda C. Britton, 81, of Alexandria, died at 7:50 p.m. Tuesday at Carmel Manor Nursing Home, Fort Thomas. She was a homemaker. Her husband, William Britton, preceded her in death.
Survivors include a son, Joseph R. Britton of Alexandria; a daughter, Rose Ann Britton of Alexandria; brothers, Raymond Seiter and Norbert Seiter, both of California; sisters, Dorothy Hunt of Newport, Gertrude Gebelt of Alexandria and Catherine Kramer of California; and three grandchildren.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary Church, Alexandria. Visitation will be from 8:30 to 10 a.m. Saturday at Alexandria Funeral Home. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Alexandria.
Ernest W. Campbell, 66, of Ludlow, died Wednesday at St. Elizabeth Hospice Unit, Covington. He was a retired furniture salesman with Value City Furniture, Latonia, a past commander of Kelly Furnish VFW Post No. 7099 in Covington and past president of Ludlow Vets.
Survivors include his wife, Darlene Campbell; sons, Vincent Campbell of South Haven, Miss., Michael Campbell of Erlanger, Kenneth Herman of Bromley and Jeffrey Herman of Chillicothe, Ohio; daughters, Linda Cohorn of Covington and Terry Still of Ludlow; his mother, Mae Campbell of Newport; sisters, Gladys Trammel of Ludlow and Sharon "Candy" Haynes of South Dakota; and 11 grandchildren.

Edward Clint Cox, 67, of Morning View, died Tuesday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood. He was a retired assembly line worker with Fisher Body. A son, Lenny Cox, died in 1970.
Survivors include his wife, Judy Cox; daughters, Jeana Cox, at home, and Jennifer McGraw of Williamstown; sisters, Donnie Cox and Otie Cox, both of Artemus; and one grandchild.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Chambers and Grubbs Funeral Home, Independence. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 tonight at the funeral home. Burial will be in Independence Cemetery.
Karen Janeen Gertler Glardon, 44, of Fairfield, Ohio, formerly of Newport, died Tuesday at Mercy Hospital South, Fairfield. She was an office worker with Nazdar Cincinnati.
Survivors include her husband, Robert Glardon; a daughter, Torrie Glardon of Fairfield; and a sister, Lisa Dews of Fairfield.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Persimmon Grove Baptist Church, Alexandria. Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday at Alexandria Funeral Home. Linus G. Hehman, 73, of Newport, died at 3:43 a.m. Tuesday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas. He was a self-employed heating and air-conditioning service man and a former all-state commander with Lawler-Hanlon VFW Post No. 5662, Newport.
He was a member of American Legion Post No. 11, the Belle Acres Sportsman Club and was an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II.
A daughter, Marlene Stegeman, died in 1981.
Survivors include his wife, Bernice Whitehead Hehman; sons, Linus "Lonnie" Hehman III of Fort Thomas and Karl Ruschman of Butler; daughters, Peggy VonBokern of Greenville, S.C., Julia Belmont of Holland, Mich., Missy Barth of Woodlawn and Lorri Mounce of Alexandria; his mother, Helen Hehman of Covington; sisters, Sister Heleen Hehman, S.N.D., of Covington and Martha Hafner of Marcols, Fla.; and 14 grandchildren.

Andree Doyle Herkamp, 75, of Maysville, died at 9:30 p.m. Tuesday at St. Joseph Hospital, Lexington. She was a waitress with Lively Lady Restaurant, Aberdeen, Ohio, the Maysville Country Club and Caproni's Restaurant, Maysville. She was a member of St. Patrick Church, Maysville. Her first husband, Lawrence W. Doyle, and sons, Jack Doyle and Donal Doyle, all preceded her in death.
Survivors include her husband, Fred Herkamp; sons, Mike Doyle of New Albany, Ind., Patrick Doyle of Maysville; a daughter, Patricia Payne of Maysville; stepsons, Larry Herkamp of Jeffersonville, Ind., John Herkamp of Lexington and Bill Herkamp of Belgium; a stepdaughter, Martha Fryman of Maysville; 10 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and several step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren.

Kenneth Edward Johnson, 54, of Butler, died Monday at his home. He was a truck driver with Trauth Dairy and attended Chapel of Praise Church, Falmouth.
Survivors include his wife, Doris Johnson; daughters, Kelli Johnson of Indiana, Donna Hobbs of Bellevue and Jennifer Johnson of Butler; a son, Jim Johnson of Butler; his parents, James and Betty Stephens of Falmouth; and five grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Chapel of Praise Church, Falmouth. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 tonight at Peoples Funeral Home, Falmouth, after from 1 p.m. Friday until the time of services at the church. Burial will be in Turner Ridge Cemetery, Pendleton County.
Edward J. Kremer, 86, of Melbourne, died at 6:45 p.m. Tuesday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas. He was a retired nursery worker with Mount Pleasant Gardens, Fort Thomas, and a member of St. Joseph Church, Camp Springs, and Catholic Order of Foresters St. Joseph Court No. 1725. His wife, Cecilia M. Braun Kremer, died in 1995.
Survivors include sons, Ed C. Kremer of Melbourne and Bob Kremer of Alexandria; daughters, Rita Roetting and Clara Pelle, both of Melbourne; 11 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Raymond Lyons, 66, of Villa Hills, died Wednesday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South in Edgewood.

Bealie C. Mains, 73, of Butler, died at 2:30 pm. Tuesday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas. He was a retired machine operator with Dravo Lime Co., Foster, and a former baker with Grennan Bakery, Cincinnati. He was an Army veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Jeanette Mains; sons, David Mains of Alexandria, Jeff Mains, Roger Mains and Mark Mains, all of Butler; daughters, Brenda Mayfield and Lisa Rauch, both of Alexandria, and Connie Kreate of Loveland, Ohio; a sister, Juanita Fields of Alexandria; 17 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Sadie L. McLaughlin, 97, of Alexandria, died at 3:15 p.m. Wednesday at Baptist Convalescent Center, Newport. She was a homemaker. Her husband, Douglas William McLaughlin, preceded her in death.
Survivors include a daughter, Willa "Billie" Reed of Alexandria; five grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Jean M. Fiedler Moore, 68, of Fort Pierce, Fla., formerly of Villa Hills, died Sunday at Indian River Memorial Hospital Fort Pierce. She was a former owner of Moore's Home Improvement Center, Fort Thomas, and a member of Fort Thomas Chapter No. 269 and Order of the Eastern Star.
Survivors include her husband, Louis E. Moore Jr.; a daughter, Becky Cerio of Huntersville, N.C.; sons, Bruce E. Moore of Fort Thomas and Gregory L. Moore of Owensboro; sisters, Ruth Grimm of Hobe Sound, Fla., and Carol Balton of Cincinnati; a brother, William Fiedler of Cincinnati; and six grandchildren.

Dempsey F. Riley, 61, of Dry Ridge, died at 3:20 p.m. Wednesday at his home. He was a retired employee of Continental Can Corp., Cincinnati.
