'Warm, friendly' Vera Poe always willing to help out
Vera D. Poe didn't just talk about lending a helping hand, she put her words in to action, says her husband, Leonard Poe.
"She was warm and friendly; she never saw a stranger," said Mr. Poe.
He noted, for example, that Mrs. Poe formed close relationships with two widows who were in her adult Sunday school class.
"She promised them they wouldn't be alone," Mr. Poe said. "We took them every place they wanted to go."
Mr. Poe said it also wasn't unusual for Mrs. Poe to help people at their church get to cancer treatments.
"She was very loving ... very outgoing," he said.
Mrs. Poe, 81, of Erlanger, died Thursday at St. Luke Hospital West in Florence. She was a retired clerk for Lazarus and an active member of Fort Mitchell Baptist Church.
She particularly enjoyed being a part of the church's missionary circle, Mr. Poe said.
Mr. and Mrs. Poe met at church. They were married
57 years and, Mr. Poe said, the joke at church was that if you could find one of them, you'd find the other because they were always together.
