Ora M. Ervin, 'good man' who served home, country
Ora M. Ervin of Bellevue faithfully served his country, his family and his church, but he never wanted anyone to make a fuss about it.
"He was kind of a quiet man, but he was a very good man," said his son, Bruce Ervin of Bellevue.
"He was nice to everybody. I never heard him say anything bad about anybody. He was a really nice man."
Mr. Ervin died Thursday at home. He was 74.
Mr. Ervin was born and reared in Cincinnati. He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II. During the Korean War, he served with the Air Force Reserves.
Mr. Ervin was a mechanic for H.H. Meyers Co. of Cincinnati, which produced Partridge meats, for 15 years.
He worked another 15 years for Lazarus in various Greater Cincinnati locations, first as a mechanic, then in the maintenance department and finally part-time in a warehouse.
Mr. Ervin loved airplanes and, after he retired about four years ago, had more time to travel to air shows.
He was a member of St. Anthony Church in Bellevue.
"He went to church a lot," his son said. "He was an usher. He did a lot of things for the church."
Mr. Ervin also remained loyal to his fellow veterans. He was a member of the Bellevue Vets and the American Legion in Dayton.
Mr. Ervin and his wife, Ethel Yelton Ervin, were married
47 years. Other survivors include a daughter, Sue Abramis of Taylor Mill; another son, Mike Ervin of Fort
Thomas; sisters, Alice Cloyd of Bend, Ore., and Pat Draper of Camp Dennison, Ohio; and four grandchildren.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Anthony Church in Bellevue. Visitation will be from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Monday at Dobbling Funeral Home in Bellevue. Burial will be in St. Stephen cemetery in Fort Thomas. Ruth Austin, 66, of Butler, died Thursday at St. Luke Hospital East in Fort Thomas. She was a former teller for Farmers National Bank, Butler, and a member of Butler Christian Church, where she was a deaconess.
Survivors include her husband, Everett Rook Austin; a son, Rick Austin of Grants Lick; daughters, Rhonda Clair of Butler and Robin Himes of Blackshear, Ga.; sisters, Alma M. Schafer of Grants Lick, Orel Brickler of Alexandria and Winnie Vanlandingham of Mount Auburn; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Peoples Funeral Home, Butler. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Burial will be in Butler Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Butler Christian Church, 111 High St., Butler, Ky. 41006.
Dorothy Baughman, 74, of Baltimore, formerly of Covington, died Tuesday at Baltimore Hospital. She was a member of Robbins Street Christian Church, Covington; Order of Eastern Star, Cecelia Dunlap Grand Chapter; Daughters of Isabella, Aleikum Court No. 56; Kentucky Boosters of Aleikum Temple No. 96; and Ralph M. Carter Assembly No. 6, Order of the Golden Circle.
Survivors include a son, Robert G. Baughman Jr. of Covington; a daughter, Patricia A. Phill of Baltimore; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 7 p.m. Sunday at Robbins Street Christian Church, Covington. Visitation will begin at 6 p.m. Sunday at the church. Burial will be in Mary Smith Memorial Cemetery, Covington. Jones and Simpson Funeral Home, Covington, is handling arrangements.
Bernie Deaton, 59, of Alexandria, died Friday at University Hospital in Cincinnati.
Arrangements are pending at Allison and Rose Funeral Home, Taylor Mill.
Harold L. Glore, 67, of Sparta, died Thursday at his home. He was retired from Cincinnati Mine Machinery Co. and was a member of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include his wife, Anna Hodgett Glore; a son, William Glore of West Chester, Ohio; daughters, Mary Stewart of Cincinnati and Lela Poore and Linda Ramsey, both of Goshen, Ohio; his stepmother, Nell Glore of Hamilton, Ohio; sisters, Mary Ellen Collier of Sparta and Joann Patton of Sharonville, Ohio; half-brothers, Larry Glore of Hamilton, Ohio, and Tommy Glore of Liberty, Ind.; half-sisters, Carol Carberry and Joan Jenkins, both of Vevay, Ind.; 10 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Carlton-Lowder Funeral Home, Warsaw. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 tonight at the funeral home. Burial will be in Warsaw Cemetery.
Jake Isaacs, 83, of Sycamore Township, Ohio, formerly of Covington, died at 6 a.m. Friday at Mercy Hospital in Fairfield, Ohio. He was a retired route manager for Husman Potato Chip Co., Cincinnati, and a Navy veteran of World War II.
His wife, Josephine Marie Brown Isaacs, died in 1984. Survivors include a son, William G. Isaacs of Sycamore Township, Ohio; a daughter, Sandra Jo Gruca of Edgewood; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Private services will be at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in Floral Hills Cemetery, Taylor Mill. Memorials are suggested to Alzheimer's Disease Association, 644 Linn St., Cincinnati, Ohio 45203. Allison and Rose Funeral Home, Taylor Mill, is handling arrangements.
John E. King, 86, of Cincinnati, died Thursday at Hospice of Cincinnati in Blue Ash, Ohio. He was retired from General Electric Co. and was a former redcap at Union Terminal, Cincinnati.
Survivors include a son, John Leslie King of San Francisco; a daughter, Victoria King-Patterson of Cincinnati; a sister, Alice King Butler of Covington; a brother, Henry Lee King of Winchester; and three grandchildren.
Services will be at noon Monday at Jamison and Jamison Funeral Home, Montgomery Road location, Cincinnati. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Spring Grove Cemetery, Cincinnati.
Evelyn B. Kruse, 89, of Latonia, died Thursday at Rosedale Manor in Latonia. She was a former owner of several specialty meat and cheese stores in Northern Kentucky.
Survivors include a son, Dr. Howard Heringer Jr. of Lakeside Park; daughters, Dr. Evelyn A. Heringer of Fort Mitchell and Kathleen Slaughter of Covington; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Services will be at the convenience of the family. The body was donated to University of Cincinnati College of Medicine. Catchen and Son Funeral Home, Covington, is handling arrangements.
William Truman Moore died after birth Tuesday at McPherson Hospital in Howell, Mich.
Survivors include his parents, J. Gerald Moore and Lisa Wilsey of Marshall, Mich.; sisters, Tiffany and Desiree Wilsey, both of Marshall, Mich.; and grandparents, Denver and Emma Finnell of Taylor Mill and Truman and Louise Blevins of Howell, Mich.

David Douglas Smith, 25, of Dry Ridge, died at 1:40 a.m. Friday at his home after a long illness.
Survivors include his father, Kenneth David Smith of Tampa, Fla.; his mother, Phyllis Sandlin Smith of Dry Ridge; a brother, James Jason Smith of Dry Ridge; grandparents, Billy and Betty Sandlin of Dry Ridge; and great-grandparents, Ida Mae and Arthur Brock of Lebanon, Ohio.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Elliston-Stanley Funeral Home, Williamstown. Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home. Claire Mae Twehues, 84, of Southgate, died at 3:05 a.m. Friday at Highlands of Fort Thomas nursing home.
She was a retired bookkeeper for Lasita Produce. Survivors include nieces and nephews.
