Clarence H. Steenken, owned dairy
Clarence H. Steenken, who owned the Fort Mitchell Dairy, died Wednesday at Floren ce Park Care Center.
The dairy was founded well over 50 years ago by Mr. Steenken's father, Frank Steenken, and closed in 1985. Clarence Steenken and his brother ran the business after Frank Steenken died.
"He was just a guy who worked all of his life. Everybody liked him. He ran into people all the time who knew him when he ran the dairy," said Betty Kinsella Steenken, with whom he recently celebrated 56 years of marriage.
Mr. Steenken, 79, of Burlington, died Wednesday. He was a member of Catholic Order of Foresters.
The Steenkens made egg nog and ice cream and milked their own cows. They worked on holidays, which was their busy season, and rarely took time off, except to go fishing and hunting when he could.
"It was a lot of work, but he was a great guy," his wife said.
The Steenkens closed the dairy in the mid-1980s because it was too hard to compete with local stores, Mrs. Steenken said.
One of Mr. Steenken's cousins, William Steenken, became the sheriff in Kenton County.
Mr. Steenken was a volunteer and an usher with Mary Queen of Heaven Church in Erlanger.
Besides his wife, other survivors include his son, Terry Steenken of Fort Mitchell; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Mary Queen of Heaven Church. Visitation will be from 8 to 9:30 a.m. Friday at Linnemann Funeral Home, Erlanger. Entombment will be in St. Mary Mausoleum, Fort Mitchell. Memorials are suggested to Mary Queen of Heaven Church, 1150 Donaldson Road, Erlanger, Ky. 41018.
Jerry Balzhiser, 71, of Bellevue, died Sunday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas. He worked for Balzhiser Brothers' Trucking Co., and was a musician. He was a trumpet player with several local bands, and was a member of Cincinnati Musicians Union Local No. 1. He was an Air Force veteran of the Korean War.
Survivors include a sister, Joyce Von Bokern of Highland Heights.
Memorial Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Anthony Church, Bellevue. Memorials are suggested to St. Michael School, 235 Division St., Bellevue, Ky. 41073. Dobbling Funeral Home, Bellevue, is handling arrangements.
Margaret Louise Marksberry Beach, of Florence, died Wednesday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center Grant County, Williamstown. She was a supervisor of typing with R. L. Polk & Co., Cincinnati. Her husband, Jesse Beach, preceded her in death.
Survivors include a brother, Edgar Marksberry of Dillonvale, Ohio; and sisters, Dolly Marksberry and Nelba Marksberry, both of Dry Ridge.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Eckler-Hudson Funeral Home, Dry Ridge. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Hill Crest Cemetery, Dry Ridge.
Arthur E. Clark, 73, of Lake Worth, Fla., formerly of Newport, died Tuesday in Florida. He worked with ceramic tile and was a member of Christian Tabernacle Church, Newport.
Survivors include his wife, Marylou Clark; a daughter, Christine Ulseth; brothers, James Clark of West Columbia, S.C., and Paul Clark of Florence; a sister, May Baker of Erlanger; and two grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Dorsey Funeral Home, Lake Worth. Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Memory Gardens, Lake Worth. Memorials are suggested to Correll Ministry, P. O. Box 12181, Roanoke, Va. 24023.
Lena Gordon, 96, of Latonia, died at 7:26 p.m. Tuesday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood. She was a retired seamstress and a member of Latonia Baptist Church. Her husband, Floyd Gordon, died in 1990. A daughter, Jean Dunaway, died in 1998.
Survivors include a daughter, Alyce Glenn of Latonia; a sister, Edna Alexander of Warsaw; nine grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.

Alma White Grimes, 91, of Florence, died at 4:45 a.m. Wednesday at Independence Baptist Church. She was a homemaker. Her first husband, James R. White, died in 1964. Her second husband, Oscar Grimes, died in 1982.
Survivors include a daughter, Janet Elizabeth Clark of Taylor Mill; sons, Ralph A. White and Robert F. White, both of Covington, Fred T. White of Independence, Jesse G. White of Homestead, Fla., and William W. White of Morning View; 17 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Chambers and Grubbs Funeral Home, Independence. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Independence Cemetery. Velma D. Howard, 72, of Burlington, died Tuesday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood. She was a homemaker and a member of Burlington Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband, Walter Howard; daughters, Kathy Booth of Walton and Laura Crooker of Burlington; sons, John Howard and Walter Howard Jr., both of Burlington; a brother, Joseph Fuller of Savannah, Ga.; and nine grandchildren. Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Stith Funeral Home, Florence. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 tonight at the funeral home.

Betty J. Stratton Russelberg Lewis, 75, of Newport, died Saturday at Lakeside Park Nursing Home, Highland Heights. She was a waitress with Walgreen's in Newport. Daughters, Betty Shanks and Dixie Russelberg, both preceded her in death.
Survivors include daughters, Jayne Newport of Edgewood and Pat Kremer of Cold Spring; brothers, Bill Stratton of Cold Spring, Bubbles Stratton of Fort Thomas and Gayle Stratton of Covington; eight grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

John Michael Miglio, 80, of Fort Thomas, died Wednesday at Carmel Manor Nursing Home in Fort Thomas. He was a inventory controlman with Buschman Conveyor Co. and a member of St. Vincent DePaul Church, Newport. He was a chairman of the church festival for many years, a member of the Knights of Columbus and a part-time counselor with the Bob Hope House. He was an Army veteran of World War II. His wife, Rose Marie Palmisano Miglio, preceded him in death.
Survivors include daughters, Annette Baker, Regina Ries and Barbara Verax, all of Fort Thomas; a son, Frank Miglio of Alexandria; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Mass of Christian burial will be at noon Friday at Holy Spirit Church, Newport. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Friday at Dobbling Funeral Home, Fort Thomas. Clarence Neal, 82, of North ern Kenucky, died at 11 p.m. Wednesday at St. Luke Hospital West in Florence.

Eric C. Orendorff, 27, of Butler, died Monday while working at the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport. He was owner of an apartment building in Cincinnati, a bus driver with Delta Airlines, and a bar-back with the Warehouse nightclub in Cincinnati.
Survivors include his parents, Gary and Bea Orendorff of Butler; and grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. L. R. Orendorff of Wyoming, Ohio.
Private services will be at the convenience of the family. Proctor Picklesimer, 67, of Elsmere, died at 10:38 a.m. Wednesday at St. Luke Hospital West, Florence. He was a retired master machinist with Equitable Bag Co., attended Kento-Boo Baptist Church in Florence, and was an Army veteran of the Korean War.
Survivors include his wife, Lula Rose Manning Picklesimer; sons, Terry L. Picklesimer of Gallatin County, Robert E. Picklesimer of Walton, David W. Picklesimer of Elsmere and Peter L. Picklesimer of Erlanger; brothers, Frank Picklesimer of Muskegon, Mich., Homer Picklesimer of Emporium, Pa., and Donald Picklesimer of Manistee, Mich.; sisters, Billie J. Picklesimer of Ravenna, Mich., Carol D. Harris, Evelyn K. Picklesimer and Ann Picklesimer, all of Pikeville; and 11 grandchildren.

Alford Popp, 74, of Covington, died at 12:40 a.m. Wednesday at his home. He was a factory worker with Duro Bag Co., a member of 30-13 C.B. Club and VFW Post No. 6423 in Elsmere, and an Army veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Hazel Popp; sons, Gary Popp of Las Vegas, Alford Popp Jr. of Ludlow and Avery Popp of Covington; daughters, Cindy Epperson of Walton, Brena Gline Williams and Anna Popp Carpenter, both of Covington; a brother, George Popp of Carrollton; sisters, Bertice Drugon of Ashland, Ohio, and Marilyn Popp Rumpkin of National City, Calif.; 14 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Alice Sisco, 53, of Zephyrhills, Fla., formerly of Dayton, died Sunday at East Pasco Medical Center, Zephyrhills. She was a homemaker. Her husband, Emzy Sisco III, died in 1999.

John Watts, 75, of Newport, died Wednesday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood. He was a self-employed bicycle repairman. A brother, Curtis Watts, preceded him in death.
Survivors include nieces and nephews.
