Frances Mann, poet, businesswoman
Frances S. Mann saw opportunity and poetry in everything she encountered in life. T he 84- year-old Lakeside Park mother of three died Sunday but left much of her wisdom behind in the form of two published books of poetry and two surviving sons with whom she shared her life and her businesses.
Mrs. Mann, who once transported trucks between Kentucky Army bases as a Red Cross volunteer in World War II, rolled through most of her life in search of challenges and friends.
Many remember Mrs. Mann as the friendly face behind the counter at End O'Line Carryout which she owned and operated in Fort Mitchell in the 1970s.
"She worked there every night," said her son, Gilbert Mann, of Fort Mitchell. "She just loved to be there and see people. Lots of people knew her. My brothers worked there. I worked there. We all worked there."
That business experience was a good foundation for an apartment rental company the family later started, 4 M Properties. But, it wasn't until just ten years ago that Mrs. Mann began what may have been her true calling - writing poetry.
"She bought a word processor and that's when she really started working on her poetry. She wrote hundreds and hundreds of poems," said her son. "She published two books and was working on the third when she got sick."
Her two published books of poetry are "What My Three Sons Taught Me" and "On the Lighter Side of the Lord."
She was also a former member of the Fort Mitchell Country Club and the Junior Board. She was a member of the Fellowship of Believers Church in Florence.
