Ruth Woeste, dairy farmer
Ruth Elizabeth Woeste spent a lifetime on dairy farms.
She grew up on a dairy farm. She and her husband, Theodore Woeste, owned Green Meadows Dairy in Claryville. She became a prize-winning breeder of dairy cows.
Mrs. Woeste, 85, died at 7:55 a.m. Friday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas.
"My mother spent her time watching the kids and the dairy grow," said her son, John Woeste of Gainesville, Fla. "My father was a machinist, and my mom was the superintendent on the farm."
The Woestes raised Holsteins. In 1955, Mrs. Woeste's Junior All-American 2-year-old was judged the best in its class in the country. She exhibited the cow in the Mid-South Dairy Expo and the Kentucky State Fair.
Mrs. Woeste believed in education, hard work and being part of the community, her son said. She was a former 4-H Club leader and continued to be active long after her children graduated.
She was a member of the Campbell County Extension Homemakers and St. Mary's Church in Alexandria.
Other survivors include sons, Franklin Woeste of Blacksburg, Va., and Roger Woeste of Fort Mitchell; daughters, Alma Davis of Schaumberg, Ill., Erma Rogers of Milford, Mich., and Marian Welch of Newark, Ohio; 15 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Mary Church, Alexandria. Visitation is 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Alexandria Funeral Home. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Alexandria. Memorials: St. Mary Church Religious Education Fund, 121 W. Main St., Alexandria, Ky. 41001.
Kent Aaron, 59, of Burlington, died Friday at St. Luke Hospital West in Florence. He worked in sales for various companies.
Survivors include his wife, Sally Aaron; daughters, Kalinda Mathis of Wilmington, N.C., Valarie Aaron of Burlington; and three grandchildren.
Services will be at noon Tuesday at the funeral home, with visitation from 10 a.m. Burial will be in Burlington Cemetery.
Norma Jean Hinson Atha, 66, of Augusta, died Friday at Augusta Health Care Center. She was a homemaker and a member of Germantown Christian Church.
Survivors include a son, Michael Atha of Jacksonville, Fla.; brothers, Clyde M. Hinson of Tampa and Ray E. Hinson of Dallas; sisters, Louise H. Douglas of Aberdeen, Ohio, Pauline Amlung and Helen Veid of Cincinnati, June Bess of Maysville and Joan Chain of Germantown.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Palmer Funeral Home, Germantown, with visitation from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Germantown. Memorials are suggested to Hospice of Hope, 1 W. McDonald Parkway, Maysville, Ky. 41056.
Lelia Jeanette Beaver, 87, of Newport, died Thursday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South in Edgewood. She was retired from retail sales and a former member of Jolly Seniors, Grand Towers, Newport.
Her husband, Raymond Beaver, died in 1984. A son, Raymond E. Beaver, and a daughter, Gerry Becker, died in 1997. Survivors include sisters, Marie Oberschlake of Moore Haven, Fla., Virgie Smith of Cincinnati and Thelma Geise of Sebring, Fla.; seven grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Grand Towers, Newport. Thomas Allen Bronson, 47, of Carrollton, died Monday at his residence. He was a self-employed timberman. Memorial services will be at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Linnemann Funeral Home, Burlington, with visitation at 1 p.m. William S. "Bill" Carpenter, 57, of the state of California, formerly of Robertson County, died Thursday in California. He was a retired employee for Dialog Corp., a Navy veteran and member of Mount Pleasant Christian Church.
A son, Kevin Reid Carpenter, preceded him in death. Survivors include a son, Jeffrey Carpenter of Avondale, Ariz.; a brother, Bobby Carpenter of Hamilton, Ohio; sisters, Jeanie Cooper of Mount Olivet and Riva Ash of Tennessee; and two grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Piqua Christian Church, Robertson County, with visitation from 11 a.m. Burial will be in Piqua Cemetery. Robertson County Funeral Home, Mount Olivet, is handling arrangements.
William Clay Ferguson, 53, of Crittenden, died Thursday at his residence. He was a warehouse clerk for the Gap, formerly worked for the City of Walton, was an Air Force veteran and former member of the National Guard. He was a member of Goshen Christian Church, Piner.
Survivors include his wife, JoAnn Ferguson; a son, Nathan Ferguson of Crittenden; daughters, Laurie Cole, Julie Mischke and Kerrie Ferguson of Crittenden; parents, Roy and Gladys Ferguson of Manchester; three sisters; seven brothers; six grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Goshen Christian Church, Piner, with visitation from 11 a.m. Burial will be in Goshen Christian Church Cemetery, Piner. James B. Kinman, 67, of Carrollton, died Friday at Jewish Hospital in Louisville. He was a retired welder for Williamson Heating Co., Madison, Ind. He was a member of Monterey Baptist Church, Monterey.
Survivors include his wife, Joan Cobb Kinman; a daughter, Earleen Bickers of Carrollton; a son, Mike Kinman of Madison, Ind.; a brother, Bill Kinman of Carrollton; sisters, Loretta Wilker of Sarasota, Fla., Reanie Jackson of Baltimore, Georgia Bell Frazier of Carrollton and Wanda Brown of Worthville; two grandchildren, two great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Tandy-Eckler-Riley Funeral Home, Carrollton, with visitation from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday. Burial will be in Carrollton IOOF Cemetery.
Hayde Link, 88, of New Liberty, died Thursday at Owen County Memorial Hospital in Owenton. He was a farmer, cattle broker and tobacco warehouse owner.
His wife, Myrtle Williams Link, and sons, Jerry Wayne Link and Terry Payne Link, all preceded him in death. Survivors include a son, Raleigh Link of Owenton; a daughter, Carolyn Robbins of New Liberty; eight grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at McDonald Funeral Home, Seminary Street location, Owenton, with visitation from 4 to 9 p.m. Sunday. Burial will be in Owenton IOOF Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to charity of choice.
Everett Edward Lucas, 83, of Dayton, died Thursday at St. Luke Hospital East in Fort Thomas. He was a farmer and an Army veteran.
His wife, Nina Loraine Meyer Lucas, died in 1986. Survivors include sons, Jim Lucas, Don Lucas and Rick Lucas of Dayton and Mark Lucas of Bellevue; daughters, Wilma Appelman of Springdale, Ohio, Debbie Mason of Floyd Knobs, Ind., and Robin Fromeyer of Dry Ridge; brothers, Adrine Lucas of Augusta and Mark Lucas of Cold Spring; 25 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Sunday at Moore and Parker Funeral Home, Augusta, with visitation from 6 to 9 tonight. Burial will be in Johnsville Cemetery, Johnsville.
Paul Noll, 76, of Ludlow, died Thursday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center North Hospice in Covington. He was a retired plant superintendent for Leyman Manufacturing Co., Blue Ash, Ohio; an Army veteran of World War II; and a member of Sts. Boniface and James Church, Ludlow.
Survivors include his wife, Gladys Martin Noll; sons, Greg Noll of Kenwood, Ohio, Mark Noll of Ludlow and Keith Noll of Covington; a sister, Bertha Higgins of Taylor Mill; and five grandchildren.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Sts. Boniface and James Church, Ludlow. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Fort Mitchell. Memorials are suggested to charity of donor's choice. Ronald B. Jones Funeral Home, Ludlow, is handling arrangements.
Wayne E. Rogers, 60, of Alexandria, died Friday at his residence. He owned an insurance agency, was a retired man- ager for AT&T; and was a Navy veteran. He was a member of St. Paul United Church of Christ, Alexandria; Fort Thomas Masonic Lodge No. 808; Grand Lodge of Kentucky, where he was Grand Master in 1996; Scottish Rite Lodge; and Oleika Shrine Temple. He was chairman of the Campbell County Police Merit Board and vice chairman and treasurer of Deaconess Hospital, Cincinnati. He was a former trustee for Masonic Homes of Kentucky and Eden Treatment Center. He was a deputy in the Scottish Rite Lodge of Perfection, Covington, and secretary of the Scottish Rite Foundation Board since 1992.
Survivors include his wife, Charlene L. Rogers; daughters, Debra Ann Fousek of Plainfield, Ill., and Terri Lynn Trumbo of Newport; a son, Michael Wayne Rogers of Ludlow; his father and stepmother, Joseph and Marjorie Rogers of Highland Heights; a sister, JoAnn Weaver of Richmond; and six grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Paul United Church of Christ, Alexandria. Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. Monday at Alexandria Funeral Home, and from 9 a.m. until time of services Tuesday at the church. Memorials are suggested to Wayne E. Margaret M. Wedderstrand, 80, of Latonia, died Friday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center North Hospice in Covington. She was a homemaker and a member of St. Anthony Church, Taylor Mill; Tripoli Club; St. Anthony Fun Club; Grandmothers' Club of Northern Kentucky.
Her husband, Walter W. Wedderstrand, died in 1982. Survivors include a son, William L. Wedderstrand of Holly Hill, Fla.; daughters, JoAnn Gadker of Punta Gorda, Fla., and Susan C. Berling of Taylor Mill; a sister, Rose Snyder of Las Vegas; 11 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Anthony Church, Taylor Mill. Visitation will be 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Monday at Connley Brothers Funeral Home, Latonia, with prayers at 10:30 a.m. Burial will be in Floral Hills Cemetery, Taylor Mill.
