Jean Nassano, a grocer and kind neighbor, dies

When the basket of flowers came to Jean C. Nassano's hospital room last week, her famil y wasn't exactly sure who sent them.

But when they checked later, their guess was confirmed: The flowers had come from a new neighbor across the street.

"This little girl had moved in and she was pregnant," said Mrs. Nassano's husband, Norman. "(Mrs. Nassano) was wanting to reach out to them. . .so she picked up a little outfit for the ba by."

"She was accepting of everyone and any kind of situation," said her daughter, Julie Lawson, of Tipp City, Ohio.

Mrs. Nassano, 66, of Bellevue, died Sunday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas.

But when people think of her mom, they'll think of her mom and dad together, Ms. Lawson sai d.

Together, they owned the Deluxe Food Market in Bellevue until a few years ago.

"My mom and dad were a team and everybody knew that, everybody in Bellevue," Ms. Lawson sai d.

Norman Nassano would agree.

"I've had 45 years together with her and they've all been good years," he said.

Mrs. Nassano also was a retired employee of the Campbell County Department of Human Resources and a member of St. Anthony Church, Bellevue. She was the first woman to join the St. Vincent DePaul Society at the church, and was a member of the Vagabond Square Dancers and Campbell Count y Homemakers. She was the Bellevue Vets' first volleyball coach.

In addition to her husband and daughter, she is survived by her daughter, Cindy Cadet of Madeira, Ohio; sons, Dave Nassano of Alexandria, Stan Nassano of Latonia and Steve Nassano of Cincinnati; sisters, Evelyn Crowley of Independence, Marcella Gubser of Alexandria, Ruth Kramer of Southgate, Anna Mae Ritter of Highland Heights and Alvina Steffen of Cold Spring; brothers, Cliff Simon of Highland Heights, Frank Simon of Cold Spring and Louis Simon of Fort Wright; and 14 grandchildren.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at St. Anthony Church. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. today at Dobbling Funeral Home, Bellevue. Burial will be in St. Stephen Cemetery, Fort Thomas. Memorials are suggested to St. Anthony Church, 320 Poplar St., Bellevue, Ky. 41073.

Mary Irene Hopper Bill, 77, of Fort Thomas, died at 10 p.m. Sunday at her home. She was a retired employee of Cincinnati Bell Telephone. Her husband, Robert Bill, died in 1992.

Survivors include a sister, Thelma Crisp of Southgate.

Services will be at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Cold Spring. Memorials are suggested to the charity of the donor's choice. Muehlenkamp-Erschell Funeral Home, Fort Thomas, is handling arrangements.

Margaret B. Blue, 78, of Covington, died Friday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood. She was a homemaker.

Survivors include brothers, Henry C. Richardson, Laurence Richardson and Waymon Richardson; sisters, Genorra Williams, Florine Smith and Shirley Dunlap; grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday at United Community Christian Church, Covington. Burial will be in Mary Smith Memorial Cemetery, Elsmere. Jones and Simpson Funeral Home, Covington, is handling arrangements.

Albert Thomas Clark III, 65, of Latonia, died Monday at his home. He was a retired machinist with Cincinnati Milacron.

Survivors include sons, Albert Clark IV of Covington, Terry Clark of St. Petersburg, Fla., Keith Clark of Southgate and Kenneth Clark of Cincinnati; daughters, Angela Siemers of Ludlow and Lisa Casorio of Ridge Manor, Fla.; a brother, Mark Clark of Independence; sisters, Janet Bray of Southgate, Patricia Dorman and Carol Worthman, both of Latonia, Phyliss Colston of Ashland and Kathy Craddock of Florence; and 12 grandchildren.

Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Radel Funeral Home, Newport. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Southgate.

Robert F. Clifford, 82, of Burlington, died Sunday in Columbus, Ind. He was the owner of a farm and feed hauling business.

Survivors include his wife, Cleopatra Clifford; a daughter, Wilma Faye Clifford Wilson of Columbus, Ind.; brothers, Marion Clifford of Burlington, William Clifford and Stanley Clifford, both of Harrison County; three grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Thurs day at Linnemann Funeral Home, Burlington. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Burlington Cemetery.

Edward W. Dempsey, 82, of Corinth, died Monday at Owenton Manor Nursing Home, Owenton. He was a retired school bus driver with the Owen County School Board, a retired farmer and a member of New Columbus Baptist Church. He also was an Army veteran of World War II.

Survivors include his wife, Mildred Henage Dempsey; a son, Eddie Dempsey of New Columbus; stepsons, James T. Henage of Dry Ridge, Carl Henage and Rogan Henage, both of Corinth, and Larry Henage of Venice Beach, Calif.; a sister, Beatrice Millspaugh of Columbus, Ohio; two grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Rogers Funeral Home, Corinth. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home. Burial will be in New Columbus Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Hospice of the Bluegrass, 508 E. Pike St., Cynthiana, Ky. 41031; or New Columbus Baptist Church, Corinth, Ky. 41010.

Richard Fairfield, 45, of Edge wood, died at 5:30 p.m. Saturday on Kentucky 20 in Hebron in a motorcycle accident. He was plant manager with St. Elizabeth Medical Centers in Covington and Edgewood, and a member of St. Pius X Church, Edgewood.

Survivors include his wife, Christine Fairfield; a son, Gregg Fairfield of Edgewood; a daughter, Megan Fairfield of Edgewood; his parents, Howard "Bud" Fairfield of Latonia and Joyce Fairfield of Cincinnati; and a brother, Gregg Fairfield of Cincinnati.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Pius X Church. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Allison and Rose Funeral Home, Taylor Mill. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Erlanger. Memorials are suggested to St. Elizabeth Medical Center South Pediatrics Unit, St. Elizabeth Foundation, 1 Medical Village Drive, Edgewood, Ky. 41017.

Virginia L. Hartman, 74, of Florence, died Monday at St. Luke Hospital West in Florence. She was a cook and a member of Florence United Methodist Church. Her husband, Joseph H. Hartman Sr., died in 1986.

Survivors include a son, Joseph H. Hartman II of Vancouver, Wash.; a daughter, Barbara J. Walker of Florence; a brother, Larry R. Kennedy of Oakland, Ore.; sisters, Marlene Beverly Green of Tacoma, Wash., and Sally Sue Kennedy of Puyallup, Wash.; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 3 p.m. PDT Friday at Mountain View Funeral Home, Tacoma. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Stith Funeral Home, Florence, and from 3 to 9 p.m. PDT Thursday at the Mountain View Funeral Home. Burial will be in Mountain View Cemetery, Tacoma. Memorials are suggested to Florence United Methodist Church, 8585 Old Toll Road, Florence, Ky. 41042.

Tyler Nathionel Hill, son of Ricky Hill and Lois Barnett of Cynthiana, died shortly after birth Friday at University Medical Cen ter, Lexington.

Other survivors include brothers, Justin Noble and Jordan Barnett; a sister, Britanny Barnett; and grandparents, Ethel and Estill W. Barnett of Cynthiana, and Ruth Ann Hill of Paris and Darrell Vance of Carlisle.

Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Battle Grove Cemetery, Cynthiana. Ware Funeral Home, Cynthiana, is handling arrangements.

Donald C. Jones, 70, of Erlanger, died at 8:15 p.m. Monday at his residence.

Arrangements are pending at Stith Funeral Home, Florence.

William Joseph Lonneman, 57, of Burlington, died Wednesday at Malaga, Spain.

Arrangements are pending at Dobbling Funeral Home, Fort Thomas.

Ova Dewayne Mays, 63, of Newport, died at 10 a.m. Sunday at his home. He was a retired employee of General Motors, and a member of American Legion Post No. 327, Newport.

Survivors include a daughter, Mellony Mays-Carter of Cincinnati; sons, Denis Mays of San Diego, Ivan Mays of Dayton and Rick Mays of Newport; a brother, James Roy Mays of Newport; sisters, Pauline Cole of Dayton, Wilma Jean Coon of Omaha, Neb., Maryetta Sprout of Denver and Bonnie Sue Mays of Pennsylvania; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Muehlenkamp-Erschell Funeral Home, Newport. Visitation will begin there at 11 a.m. Wednesday. Burial will be in the family cemetery in Booneville.

Raymond Miller, 83, of Glencoe, died Sunday at Carroll County Memorial Hospital, Carrollton. He was a retired garage owner and an Army veteran of World War II.

Survivors include his wife, Lola Miller; a son, Joseph A. Miller of Scottsdale, Ariz.; daughters, Barbara Shellman of Romulus, Mich., and Patricia Strimper of Detroit; a stepson, Lee Richard Dye of Indianapolis; stepdaughters, Joan Duncanson of Detroit, June Weiner of Sparta and Alice Faye Napier of Greenwood, Ind.; sisters, Virginia Chaplan of Grand Blanc, Mich., and Elsie Warren of Detroit; nine grandchildren and 10 great- grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Carlton-Lowder Funeral Home, Warsaw. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Burial will be in Glencoe Cemetery.

Walter F. Otto, 73, of Covington, died at 4:25 p.m. April 7 at St. Elizabeth Medical Center North in Covington. He was an Army veteran of World War II.

Survivors include a friend, Laura Combs of Covington.

Services will be at 8 p.m. today at Catchen Funeral Home, Covington. Visitation will begin there at 6 p.m. Burial will be in Veterans Ad ministration National Cemetery, Dayton, Ohio.

Rodney C. Sands II, 24, of Villa Hills, died at 2:53 p.m. Sunday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood. He was a sales man.

Survivors include a daughter, Renee Marie Sands of Scottsdale, Ariz.; his parents, Rodney C. Sands of Scottsdale and Ruthann Barth Sands of Villa Hills; a brother, Eric Scott Baker of Scottsdale; sisters, Donna Hand of Andersonville, N.C., Nikki Sands of Covington and Danielle Menne of Villa Hills; and grandparents, Mildred Barth of Villa Hills, and Paul and Evelyn Sands of Cincinnati.

Memorial Mass of Christian burial will be at noon Wednesday at St. Joseph Church, Crescent Springs. A reception in the church undercroft will follow services. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Fort Mitchell. Memorials are suggested to Alcoholics Anonymous, in care of St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Behavioral Health Clinic, 200 Medical Village Drive, Edgewood, Ky. 41017. Middendorf-Bullock Funeral Home, Covington, is handling arrangements.

Charles R. "Rick" Schroeder, 46, of O'Fallon, Ill., formerly of Northern Kentucky, died at 5:44 p.m. Sunday at Scott Air Force Base Hospital, Ill. He was a civilian financial manager with Scott Air Force Base, a toastmaster and a youth soccer and basketball coach.

Survivors include his wife, Teresa A. Mulligan Schroeder; sons, Matthew C. Schroeder of Dayton, Ohio, and Christopher J. Schroeder, at home; a daughter, Jennifer A. Schroeder, at home; brothers, Don Schroeder and Steve Schroeder, both of Andover, Md., Jack Schroeder of Edgewood and Dave Schroeder of Fort Thomas; and sisters, Sue Fischer of Fort Wright, Nancy Schroeder of Covington and Joyce Anthonissen of Independence.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Augustine Church, Covington. Visitation will begin there at 9 a.m. Wednesday. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Fort Mitchell.

Memorials are suggested to Covington Catholic High School, 1600 Dixie Highway, Park Hills, Ky. 41011. Middendorf-Bullock Funeral Home, Covington, is handling arrangements.

Bryan O. Neal Spurr, 28, of Lockport, died Sunday in Gratz.

He was a farm worker and a member of Mount Zion Baptist Church, Perry Park.

Survivors include his parents, William "Billy" Spurr of Lockport and Charlotte Smith Burke of New Liberty; brothers, Alexander Spurr of Campbellsburg, Casey Spurr and Duane Spurr, both of Lockport; and grandparents, Margaret Spurr of Indianapolis, Nannie Presnell of Frankfort and Gertrud Jones of Campbellsburg.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at McDonald Funeral Home, Seminary Street, Owenton. Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home. Elzie Ray Wallace, 84, of Demossville, died Sunday at his home. He was a farmer and a member of Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church, Dry Ridge.

Survivors include sisters, Sarah Corine Cooper of Dry Ridge and Aleene Cooper of Latonia Lakes; nieces and nephews.

Services will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Eckler-Hudson Funeral Home, Dry Ridge. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home. Burial will be in Hill Crest Cemetery, Dry Ridge.

William L. Weber Sr., 83, of Fort Thomas, died Sunday at St. Luke Hospital East in Fort Thomas. He was a service manager with Machinex Corp., Cincinnati, and an Army veteran of World War II.

Survivors include his wife, Marie Weber; daughters, Rose Chinn and Tina Weber, both of Fort Thomas, and Peggy Marlow of Highland Heights; sons, Jim Weber of Edgewood, John Weber of Newport and Bill Weber Jr. of High Point, N.C.; a sister, Margaret Vinson of Fort Thomas; 13 grandchildren and seven great- grandchildren.

Memorial Mass will be at 6 p.m. Wednesday at St. Rose Church, Cincinnati. Mr. Weber bequeathed his body to the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine. Memorials are suggested to the charity of the donor's choice. Dobbling Funeral Home, Fort Thomas, is handling arrangements.

Richard Woods II, son of Richard Woods and Heidi Cahoe of Newport, died shortly after birth Monday at St. Luke Hospital East in Fort Thomas.

Arrangements are pending at Connley Brothers Funeral Home, Latonia.
