Mary Catherine Griffith, devoted to her family, farm
Mary Catherine Griffith, the soft-spoken wife of a farmer, leaves a legacy of kindness and willingness to help all members of her family.
Mrs. Griffith, of Berry, was born in Madison and raised in Fayette County.
She and her husband of 64 years, James H. Griffith, raised eight children and helped raise many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
"She was kind of quiet and shy. But she was a good mother and grandmother," her husband said.
"She cooked and she worked almost until the day she died."
Mrs. Griffith, 89, died Monday at Harrison Memorial Hospital, Cynthiana.
A son, James E. Griffith, preceded her in death.
The Griffiths raised tobacco, corn, cattle and hay on their farm.
Mrs. Griffith watched out for the children as well as the farm hands, her husband said.
She was kind to everyone she met and held the family together, Mr. Griffith said.
"Everybody liked her," he said.
In addition to her husband, Mrs. Griffith also is survived by a son, Melvin Griffith of Harrison County; daughters, Mary Griffith, Hazel Morris, Judy Horn, Shirley Worrell and Jane Callahan, all of Harrison County, and Margaret Poff of Garrett County; brothers, Reece Kelly of Jessamine County, Bob Kelly and Arlie Kelly, both of Fayette County, and Russell Kelly of Florid a; a sister, Cora McGinnis of Fayette County; 24 grandchildren, 51 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Ware Funeral Home, Cynthiana.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Burial: Pythian Grove Cemetery, Cynthiana.
Helen M. Dolwick, 81, of Okeechobee, Fla., formerly of Boone County, died April 3 at Okeechobee Health Care Facility.
She was a choir director with Peace Lutheran Church, Okeechobee .
Her husband, John Dolwick, preceded her in death.
Survivors include sons, Ronald L. Dolwick and James B. Dolwick, both of Okeechobee; a daughter, Dorothy G. Lucas of Gaithersburg, Md.; a brother, George Blayne Miller of Fort Mitchell; 10 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Services were April 6 at Buxton Funeral Home, Okeechobee.
Burial was in Evergreen Cemetery.

Russell H. Dunaway, 72, of Stanford, died Monday at Veterans Administration Medical Center, Stanford.
He was a meat cutter and a minister with the Church of Christ.
He also was a member of Disabled American Veterans, and was a Navy veteran of World War II and the Army in the Korean War.
Survivors include his wife, Nancy Middleton Dunaway; sons, Russell Dunaway Jr. of Cincinnati and Billy Dunaway of Harrodsburg; a daughter, Katherine Ann Dunaway of Erlanger; sisters, Lilly Gooch of Stanford, Margaret Grider of Junction City and Doris Bottom of Danville; and four grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Spurlin Funeral Home, Stanford.
Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Burial will be in Buffalo Springs Cemetery, Stanford.
Marie Fry, 95, of Covington, died at 3:30 a.m. today at Clovernook Health Care Center in Cincinnati.
Arrangements are pending at Ronald B. Jones Funeral Home, Ludlow.
Donald C. Jones, 70, of Erlanger, died Monday at his home.
He was a retired inspector with General Electric, a member of Florence Masonic Lodge No. 949 F&AM and an Army veteran of the Korean War.
Survivors include his wife, Opal Strunk Jones of Erlanger; a daughter, Nickie Gibbs of Union; a son, D. Jeff Jones of Corbin; his mother, Lila Jones of Bruceton, Tenn.; sisters, Barbara Campanella of Nalcrest, Fla., and Helen Griffin of Huntington, Tenn.; and three grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Stith Funeral Home, Florence.
Visitation will begin there at 9 a.m. Thursday.
Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Erlanger.

Margaret L. Jones, 90, of Newport, died at 11:05 p.m. Monday at Baptist Convalescent Center in Newport.
She was a homemaker and a member of Madison Avenue Christian Church.
Survivors include a sister, Alice J. Miller of Park Hills; nieces and nephews.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Highland Cemetery, Fort Mitchell.

Jean C. Nassano, 66, of Bellevue, died Sunday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas.
She was an owner of Deluxe Food Market in Bellevue, a retired employee of the Campbell County Department of Human Resources and a member of St. Anthony Church, Bellevue.
She was the first woman to join the St. Vincent DePaul Society at the church, and was a member of the Vagabond Square Dancers and Campbell County Home makers.
She also was the Bellevue Vets' first volleyball coach.
Survivors include her husband, Norman Nassano; daughters, Cindy Cadet of Madeira, Ohio, and Julie Lawson of Tipp City, Ohio; sons, Dave Nassano of Alexandria, Stan Nassano of Latonia and Steve Nassano of Cincinnati; sisters, Evelyn Crowley of Independence, Marcella Gubser of Alexandria, Ruth Kramer of Southgate, Anna Mae Ritter of Highland Heights and Alvina Steffen of Cold Spring; brothers, Cliff Simon of Highland Heights, Frank Simon of Cold Spring and Louis Simon of Fort Wright; and 14 grandchildren.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 7:30 p.m. today at St. Anthony Church.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. today at Dobbling Funeral Home, Bellevue.
Burial will be in St. Stephen Cemetery, Fort Thomas.

John R. Shepherd, 76, of Stanton, died Monday in Stanton.
He was a former NCR employee and a veteran.
Survivors include a son, Sgt. John Shepherd Jr. of Dixon, Mo.; daughters, Susan Watson of Stanton, Dora Shepherd of Richmond and Joyce Ann Allen of Crab Orchard; brothers, Alex Shepherd of Jeffersonville, Ind., William Paul Shepherd of Falmouth and Myles Dewey Shepherd of Cincinnati; sisters, Lucy Terill of London and Naomi Ruth McDaniel of South State, Tenn.; and 10 grandchildren.
Services will be at noon Thursday at Wells Funeral Home, Clay City.

Burial will be in Brack Wilson Cemetery, Manchester.
Richard Woods II, son of Richard Woods and Heidi Caho of Newport, died shortly after birth Monday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas.
Other survivors include a brother, Jonathon Anderson of Newport; a sister, Shyanna Woods of Newport; grandparents, Gary and Debbie Hinds of Fort Thomas, Russell Gribble of Covington, Joseph and Barb Childs Ball of Newport, and Cathy and Robert Caho of Minnesota; and great-grandparents, Bessie and Don Vahle of Strunk.
Services will be at 1 p.m. today at Floral Hills cemetery Chapel, Taylor Mill. Burial will be in Floral Hills Cemetery.
