Virginia Staggenborg, loved travel
Marielin Fey still has the Irish linen handkerchief her Aunt Virginia brought her after a trip to Ireland.
"She traveled all over," Mrs. Fey said of her aunt. "She went to Ireland, Germany, Switzerland, Alaska."
Her aunt, Virginia M. Staggenborg, 79, of Lakeside Park, died at 5:45 a.m. Wednesday at St. Charles Care Center, Fort Wright. She was a retired human resources manager with Liebel Flarsheim Co., Cincinnati, and a former assistant director of the Catholic Theaters Guild.
She also volunteered with the clerk's office for the City of Lakeside Park.
Mrs. Fey said, "She's been to every state in the United States, maybe twice. She had friend s that went with her, four of them that went. And she'd always bring you back something."
Mrs. Fey remembers getting fresh pineapple from Hawaii one year.
She also remembers her aunt's love of family and good sense of humor.
"She was a good Christian lady," Mrs. Fey said.
In addition to Mrs. Fey, of Florence, survivors include nephews Michael Hinchey of Lexington and Ken Hinchey of Crestview Hills.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Benedict Church, Covington. Visitation will begin there at 9 a.m. Monday. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Fort Mitchell. Irene Fortner, 75, of Williamstown, died at 7:25 a.m. Wednesday at Grant Manor Health Care Center in Williamstown. She was a retired clerk with the Grant County News and the Grant County Public Library, Williamstown.
She also was a member of Williamstown Baptist Church and a former member of Williamstown Order of the Eastern Star No. 301. Her husband, Gayle Bradford Fortner, died in 1962.
Survivors include sons, Keith Fortner of Corinth and David Fortner of Dry Ridge; daughters, Ila Gail Fortner of Lexington, Jackie Fortner of Florence and Pat West of Williamstown; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Elliston-Stanley Funeral Home, Williamstown. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Hill Crest Cemetery, Dry Ridge. Memorials are suggested to Parkview Manor, 228 S. Main St., Williamstown, K y. 41097.
Marie L. Fry, 95, of Covington, died Wednesday at Clovernook Health Care Center, Cincinnati. She was a food-service department worker with Shillito's Department Store, Cincinnati. Her husband, Bernard Fry, died in 1970.
Survivors include a son, Bernard Fry of Covington; daughters, Rose Marie Pullen of Cincinnati and Dorothy Grant of Berea, Ohio; a brother, Arthur Romes of Chicago; 13 grandchildren, 21 great- grandchildren and three great- great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Mother of God Cemetery, Fort Wright. Memorials are suggested to Our Lady of Snows Shrine, 442 S. Demazenot Drive, Belleville, Ill. 62223. Ronald B. Jones Funeral Home, Ludlow, is handling arrangements.
Emila Mae Hampton, 80, of Newport, died Wednesday at her home. She was an inspector with General Electric, Cincinnati. A son, Maynard McIntosh, preceded her in death.
Survivors include her husband, George E. Hampton; sons, Don McIntosh of Bellevue and Tom McIntosh of Newport; daughters, Liz Barbar of Bellevue and Pat Bendle of Fort Thomas; 15 grandchildren and 10 great- grandchildren.
Services will be at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at Love and Faith Fellowship Church, Newport. Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday at Radel Funeral Home, Newport. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Southgate. Trenton James Adams Humphrey, son of Kelli Adams and James Humphrey II, both of Newport, died at birth Sunday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas.
Other survivors include grandparents, Donna Robinson of Charleston, S.C., Harvey Adams of Cincinnati, Dora Kammerer and James Humphrey, both of New port.
Services will be at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at Evergreen cemetery Chapel, Southgate. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery. Radel Funeral Home, Newport, is handling arrangements.
James Alvin Lawrence, 55, of Dry Ridge, died Monday at Veterans Administration Medical Center, Cincinnati. He was a self-employed mechanic and an Ar my veteran.
Survivors include sons, Rusty Lawrence and Kevin Lawrence, both of Dry Ridge; a daughter, Susan Byrd of Goshen, Ohio; and nine grandchildren.
No services are planned. Cremation was at Baxter Crematory, Cincinnati. Eckler-Hudson Funeral Home, Dry Ridge, is handling arrangements.
Jimmy Lydon, 53, of Alexandria, died at 4:18 p.m. Tuesday at his home after an extended illness.
Survivors include his parents, Joseph and Marion Lydon of Alexandria; a sister, Patricia Heck of Camp Springs.
Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Friday at Alexandria Funeral Home. Visitation will begin there at 1:30 p.m. Friday. Burial will be in Alexandria Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Hospice of Northern Kentucky, 1403 Alexandria Pike, Fort Thomas, Ky. 41075.
Walker Melton, 18 days, son of Jennifer and Scott Melton of Peach Grove, died Wednesday at Children's Hospital, Cincinnati.
Other survivors include his twin brother, Wyatt Melton; and grandparents, Debbie and Bob Melton of Butler and Mike and Kay Snowden of Denver.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Peach Grove Cemetery. Peoples Funeral Home, Grants Lick, is handling arrangements.
Abel Asa Smith, 67, of Brooksville, died Tuesday at Meadowview Regional Medical Center, Maysville. He was an employee of Abel's Real Estate and Auction Co., a member of Order of the Eastern Star, Scottish and York rites, and was an Army veteran.
Survivors include his wife, Joyce Fern Hornsby Smith; sons, Randy Allen Smith and Michael Wade Smith, both of Cincinnati; daughters, Vicki Lee Bruner and Sheri Jean Hursh, both of Cincinnati, and Candace Ann Smith of Brooksville; brothers, Beecher Smith, Earnest Smith, Levi Smith and David Smith; three half-sisters, two half-brothers, 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Moore and Parker Funeral Home, Brooksville. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 tonight at the funeral home. Burial will be in Brooksville Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the charity of the donor's choice.
Evelyn Lucille Thomas, 71, of Erlanger, died Wednesday at St. Elizabeth Hospice Unit, Covington.
