Evelyn Schaetzle, 'liked helping people'
Evelyn K. Schaetzle, 95, of Fort Thomas, was a perfect model of what health experts recommend for a long life.
"She never smoked, never drank, ate nutritiously and walked a lot," said her daughter, Carol Steffen of Fort Thomas.
Mrs. Schaetzle was a homemaker and a member of First Baptist Church of Fort Thomas. She also was a volunteer with Fort Thomas Schools and at the Baptist Convalescent Center, Newport.
"She was really involved in her church work," said Mrs. Steffen. "She liked to cook for the church youth group.
"She also enjoyed going to the Baptist Home and volunteering her services, wheeling patients around and other things. The church was a very big part of her life.
"She also did volunteer work at Fort Thomas schools and enjoyed helping her neighbors. She was really a supportive person. She liked helping people."
Mrs. Schaetzle was an excellent piano player.
"She played beautifully and all by ear," said Mrs. Steffen. "She never took a lesson. She was really talented."
Mrs. Schaetzle died Tuesday at Highlands of Fort Thomas Nursing Home.
One of her favorite hobbies was playing cards with members of her card club.
"All 10 of them lived long lives, many into their 80s, but mom outlived them all," noted Mrs. Steffen. "She liked to stay active. She enjoyed her family a lot, especially her grandchildren."
Her husband, George Schaetzle, died in 1972. Her son, William Davidson, died in 1973.
Other survivors include a daughter, Gail Durbin of Los Angeles, 10 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Dobbling Funeral Home, Fort Thomas. Visitation will begin there at noon Friday. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Fort Thomas.

Michael L. Burke, 51, of Dayton, died April 21 at his home.
Survivors include brothers, Timmy Burke of Bellevue, Terry Burke of Dayton and Jack Donahue of Cincinnati; a stepson, Terry Lee Burke of Dayton; and a stepdaughter, Jenny Burke of Dayton.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Stephen Cemetery, Fort Thomas. Muehlenkamp-Erschell Funeral Home, Dayton, is handling arrangements.
Irene L. Cable, 75, of Burlington, died Monday at Woodspoint Nursing Home, Florence. She was a homemaker and a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, Burlington.
Survivors include daughters, Terrene Dillon of Florence, Debby Coppage of Independence, Kim Cable of San Diego and Randa A. Rushlow of Burlington; a brother, Anthony Gaspar of Cincinnati; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 tonight at Stith Funeral Home, Florence. Rildateen Glahn, 67, of Crescent Springs and formerly of Crittenden, was found dead Monday in Crittenden. She was self-employed.
Survivors include her mother, Roxie Tolson; a sister, Alma Davidson of Crescent Springs; and brothers, Eugene Hollon of Verona, Charles Tolson and Richard Tolson, both of Daytona Beach, Fla., and Robert Tolson of Warsaw.
Memorial services will be at noon Saturday at Stith Funeral Home, Florence. Visitation will begin there at 10 a.m. Saturday.
Beulah Mae Taylor Justice, 89, of Dry Ridge, died at 3:40 p.m. Tuesday at Grant Manor Health Care Center, Williamstown. She was a homemaker and a former cook with L&K; Restaurant and Deane's Dairy Delite, both in Dry Ridge. She was a member of Vine Run Baptist Church, Dry Ridge, where she was a Sunday school teacher.
Her husband, Harry C. Justice, died in 1980. A son, Louis L. Justice, and daughter, Betty Joyce Perry, also preceded her in death.
Survivors include sons, Donald Joe Justice and William Robert Justice, both of Dry Ridge; a daughter, Nancy Collins of Dry Ridge; sisters, Emma Louise May of Crittenden, Mary Alice Creech of Florence and Marie Speaks of Covington; 15 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Elliston-Stanley Funeral Home, Williamstown. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home. Burial will be in New Vine Run Cemetery, Dry Ridge. Memorials are suggested to Vine Run Baptist Church, 8805 Warsaw Road, Dry Ridge, Ky. 41035.
Ruth Knauf, 74, of Taylor Mill, died at 2:55 a.m. today at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South in Edgewood.

Jeffery L. Siekman, 46, of Erlanger, died at 1:13 p.m. Tuesday at Christ Hospital, Cincinnati. He was a maintenance worker with General Electric, Cincinnati.
Survivors include his wife, Lisa Ann Siekman; a son, Michael Cipollone of Erlanger; daughters, Amie Cipollone, Sheri Siekman and Mary Siekman, all of Erlanger; his mother, Lorraine Siekman of Tennessee; a sister, Emily Morris of Tennessee; and two grandchildren.
Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. today at Hebron Lutheran Cemetery. Middendorf-Bullock Funeral Home, Hebron, is handling arrangements.
J. T. Skaggs, 55, of Carrollton, died Tuesday at Jewish Hospital, Louisville. He was an agency manager of Carroll County Farm Bureau Insur ance, a member of Sulphur Wells Missionary Baptist Church of Clarkson, and a former Kentucky state representative from the 19th district from 1971-73.
Survivors include his wife, Hilda Burres Skaggs; a daughter, Tennille Skaggs of Carrollton; sons, Terry Skaggs of Taylorsville and Todd Skaggs of Hodgenville; his mother, Elaine Franklin Skaggs of Millwood; a sister, Rebecca Fletcher of Leitchfield; a brother, Kevin Skaggs of Millwood; and four grandchildren.
Services will be at 1 p.m. CDT Friday at Dermitt Funeral Home, Leitchfield. Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. today at Dermitt Funeral Home. Burial will be in Clarkson Cemetery. Trisha Barnes Streit, 46, of Hamilton, Ohio, died Tuesday at her home. She was a floral designer.
A son, Jeremy Vogelpohl, preceded her in death. Survivors include her husband, Jim Streit; sons, Eric Vogelpohl of Northern Kentucky, Cameron Mitchell, Patrick Mitchell and Adam Mitchell, all of Cincinnati; a stepdaughter, Krista Streit of Indiana; stepsons, James Andrew Streit and Tom Streit, both of Indiana; her mother, Helen Barnes of Richmond, Va.; a sister, Lynn Allgiere of Richmond, Va.; and a broth er, Harvey Lee Barnes of Northern Kentucky.

Ruthalee Finnell VanHook, 88, of Cynthiana, died Tuesday at Edgemont Manor Nursing Home in Cynthiana. She was a retired cook with Cynthiana Elks Lodge and a member of St. James A.M.E. Church, Cynthiana. Her husband, Elan Van Hook; and a stepdaughter, Anna Louise Wright, preceded her in death.
Survivors include a daughter, Linda VanHook of Cynthiana; two granddaughters and four great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at St. James A.M.E. Church. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Ware Funeral Home, Cynthiana. Burial will be in Cherry Grove Cemetery, Harrison County.
George Walls, 80, of Lakeside Park, died at 12:15 a.m. today at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South in Edgewood.
