Bertha Scheper Strebel, registered nurse
Bertha M. Scheper Strebel, who practiced as a registered nurse for more than half her life, died at 10:30 p.m. Wednesday at St. Luke Hospital East in Fort Thomas. She was 79.
Mrs. Strebel graduated in 1937 from Notre Dame of Providence High School in Newport. From there she went on to study nursing at Good Samaritan Hospital in Cincinnati and became a registered nurse in 1942.
"She always wanted to be a nurse," her daughter, Carol Strebel, said. "It was just always a burning desire my mother had."
Mrs. Strebel worked for several years assisting in surgeries at Good Samaritan then took time off when she started a family. After her children were school-aged, she went to work at St. Luke Hospital, where she stayed for more than 20 years. One of her favorite places to work was in the nursery, Ms. Strebel said.
"She loved children," she said. "And she always worked the night shift. She loved the night shift."
Mrs. Strebel was born and raised in Newport. Except for a couple of years when she first got married, Mrs. Strebel lived in the same house her entire life. Her parents had built the house and, when they died, she and her husband decided to buy it.
Survivors also include daughter, Mindy Turner, of Cincinnati; sons, David Strebel of Chicago and and Harry Strebel of Newport; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Holy Spirit Church, Newport. Visitation will begin there at 9:30 a.m. Monday. Burial will be in St. Stephen Cemetery, Fort Thomas. Muehlenkamp-Erschell Funeral Home, Newport, is handling arrangements.
Bess Bevarly, 92, of Sequim, Wash., formerly of Warsaw, died Tuesday at Olympic Health Center in Sequim. She was a homemaker and a member of Oakland Baptist Church. Her first husband, Georgie Bowie, died in 1947. Her second husband, John Bevarly, died in 1959.
Survivors include a son, Ralph Bowie of Sequim; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Oakland Cemetery, Gallatin County. Carlton-Lowder Funeral Home, Warsaw, is handling arrangements.
Adam Burton, 74, of Newport, died Wednesday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas. He was a disabled coal miner and an Army veteran.
Survivors include his wife, Mable Burton; sons, Ronnie Burton, James Burton, Ricky Burton and Donald Burton, all of Newport, Adam Burton Jr. of Elmwood, Ohio, and Timothy Burton of Cincinnati; daughters, Nada Burton and Francis Anaruma, both of Newport, and Fredda Frost of Highland Heights; a brother, Floyd Burton of Cincinnati; sisters, Judy Miller of Cincinnati and Geneva Pollard of Jackson; 23 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Keturah Street Church of God, Newport. Visitation will begin there at noon Monday. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Southgate.
Cleo Pat Dangelmeier, 95, of Bellevue, died Tuesday at Otterbein Retirement Center, Lebanon, Ohio. She was a retired beautician and a member of First Presbyterian Church, Dayton.
Survivors include several nieces and nephews.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Dobbling Funeral Home, Bellevue. Visitation will begin there at 9 a.m. Saturday. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Southgate. Memorials are suggested to First Presbyterian Church, 800 Ervin Terrace, Dayton, Ky. 41074.
Richard Ducker, 94, of Covington, died early today at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South in Edgewood.
Arrangements are pending at Middendorf-Bullock Funeral Home, Ludlow.
Russell Faris, 85, of Cincinnati, died at 8:55 a.m. Thursday at his home. He was a retired foreman with Ohio Knife Co. in Cincinnati and a member of North Presbyterian Church, Cincinnati.
Survivors include his wife, Blanche Crawford Faris; a son, John Faris of Cincinnati; a daughter, Judy Knipp of Cincinnati; a brother, Earley Faris of Cincinnati; and a sister, Iva Ziegler of Edgewood.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Ronald B. Jones Funeral Home, Ludlow. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Erlanger.
Norma E. Fischer, 95, of Cincinnati, formerly of Fort Thomas, died Wednesday at Bayley Nursing Home in Cincinnati. She was a homemaker. Her husband, Anthony Fischer, died in 1977. A daughter, Mary Alice Fischer, died in 1989.
Survivors include a daughter, Eileen Doyle of Cincinnati; and three grandchildren.

Tillie Toner Gegan, 83, of Highland Heights, died at 1:45 p.m. Wednesday at Florence Park Care Center, Florence. She was a retired housekeeper with Northern Kentucky University. Her first husband, James E. Toner, died in 1959. Her second husband, Richard Gegan, died in 1986.
Survivors include daughters, Teri Robinson of Highland Heights and Patti Carter of Park Hills; a sister, Louise Baker of Fort Thomas; a brother, William Sontag of Fort Thomas; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Thelma Karsner, 89, of Carrollton, died Thursday at Carroll County Memorial Hospital in Carrollton. She was a retired employee with Rich Ladder Co. and a member of Worthville Baptist Church. Her husband, Belviard Karsner, died in 1959. A sister, Ruby Suter, died in 1992.
Survivors include a son, Robert Karsner of Carrollton.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Graham-Dunn Funeral Home, Carrollton. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 tonight and from 10 a.m. Saturday until the time of services at the funeral home. Burial will be in IOOF Cemetery, Carrollton.
Juanita Knepfle, 75, of Covington, died at 11 p.m. Tuesday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas. She was a cashier with Ida Spence Grocery Store, Covington and a member of Madison Avenue Baptist Church, Covington.
Survivors include a son, Michael Long of Hammon, La.; daughters, Bonnie Cornett of Latonia and Rebecca Daniel of Jacksonville, Fla.; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Jean R. Rollinger Mays, 75, of Dayton, died at 11:55 p.m. Wednesday at Lakeside Place Nursing Home, Highland Heights. She was a homemaker. Her husband, Clyde Mays, died in 1987.
Survivors include a brother, Nick D. Rollinger of Newport; and six nephews.

Michael P. McSwigan, 61, of Park Hills, died of cancer Saturday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center North, Covington. He was an associate professor of mathematics and former assistant dean of the University College at the University of Cincinnati.
Survivors include his wife, Hope McSwigan; sons, Paul McSwigan of Cincinnati and David McSwigan of New York; a daughter, Anne Marie McSwigan of Cincinnati; a stepson, John Earls of Norwalk, Conn.; a stepdaughter, Mary E. Meadows of Park Hills; brothers, James McSwigan of West Palm Beach, Fla., Charles McSwigan of Cincinnati and John McSwigan of Portland, Ore.; and three grandchildren.
Memorial Mass will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Agnes Church, Fort Wright. Mr. McSwigan bequeathed his body to the University of Kentucky Medical School. Carl E. Meyer, 88, of Fort Mitchell, died at 6:45 a.m. Thursday at Highlands of Fort Thomas nursing home. He was a manager with United Parcel Service. His wife, Helen Von Hoene Meyer, died in 1976.
Survivors include sons, Carl W. Meyer of Sarasota, Fla., and Ron J. Meyer of Fort Wright; a brother, William Meyer of Cincinnati; eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Florence Ritter Pence, 74, formerly of Bellevue, died Sunday in Fairfield, Calif.
Survivors include her husband, Bill Pence; daughters, Gerrie Rivera of Los Angeles, Sandy Grabow of Dixon, Calif., and Jennie Valles of Fairfield, Calif.; a son, Bill Pence of Pacific Grove, Calif.; a sister Lorraine Gibson of Southgate; nine grandchildren and two great- grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Feb. 12 at Fairfield Funeral Home, Fairfield, Calif. Burial will follow in Rockville Cemetery, Suisun, Calif.
Flora Ruschman Roberts, 92, of Fort Thomas, died at 12:15 a.m. Thursday at Lakeside Place Nursing Home, Highland Heights. She was a homemaker. Her husband, Carl Ruschman, died in 1942.
Survivors include a daughter, Shirley Hafele of Fort Thomas; four grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Louis R. Siciliano, 73, of Dayton, died Wednesday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas. He was a meter repairman with Campbell County Water Co., a member of Sacred Heart Church in Bellevue and an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II.
Survivors include a daughter, Lou Ann Heath of Burlington; sisters, Lena Auciollo and Lucy Reynolds, both of Cincinnati, and Carmella Hartman of Bellevue; brothers, Albert Siciliano and Angela Siciliano, both of Cincinnati; three grandchildren and two great- grandchildren.
