Florence's Jimmie Ellen Williams, aided in founding American Diabetes Assn .
Jimmie Ellen Williams was a modest woman who played a key role in the establishment of the American Diabetes Association.
She was an assistant to the late Dr. Cecil Striker, who led efforts to create the American Diabetes Association, which was founded in Ohio in 1941.
Ms. Williams became executive secretary of the association.
"A lot of people aren't aware of the important role Ms. Williams played in the early years of the organization," Tom Kukle, a regional director of the American Diabetes Association, once told Post columnist Omer Johnson.
Ms. Williams, 85, of Florence, died Saturday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South in Edgewood.
She was a member of Central Parkway Church of God in Cincinnati, where she was a member of the church's Golden Club.
Ms. Williams was born in Ludlow and graduated from Holmes High School in Covington in the 1930s.
She began work for Dr. Striker in Cincinnati in 1941, and was with him when the American Diabetes Association had its first meeting in Cleveland that year.
Ms. Williams later went to work for General Electric before retiring in the 1960s.
The Northern Kentucky chapter of the American Diabetes Association honored Ms. Williams for her work several years ago.
Ms. Williams' survivors include nieces and nephews.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Stith Funeral Home, Florence. Visitation will begin there at noon Thursday. Burial will be in Floral Hills Cemetery, Taylor Mill.
Susie Mae Adams, 92, of Carrollton, died at 3:20 a.m. Tuesday at King's Daughters Hospital, Madison, Ind. She was a retired nurse's aide with Carrollton Manor and a member of Cove Hill Baptist Church in Carrollton.
Her husbands, Dennis Earl Ball and Hubert Adams, both preceded her in death.
Survivors include sons, James Howard Ball of Hanover, Ind., and Richard Lee Ball of Round Lake, Ill.; five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Graham-Dunn Funeral Home, Carrollton. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday and after 10 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be in English Cemetery.
Mildred Leona Ware Frederick Armstrong, 83, of Morning View, died at 8:20 a.m. Tuesday at Rosedale Manor Nursing Home, Latonia. She was a retired secretary with A. B. Dick Co., Cincinnati, and a secretary with Kenton Baptist Church.
She was a member of Oak Ridge Baptist Church in Latonia, Northern Kentucky Republican Women's Club and the Staffordsburg Homemakers, and was a former member of Kenton County Fair Board.
Survivors include her husband, Harry Armstrong; daughters, Joyce Wilson of Amelia, Ohio, Linda Frederick of Morgantown, W.Va., Pat Workman of Independence, Donna Griffin of Fort Mitchell and Judi Rice of Visalia; sisters, Melba Cook and Thelma Davis, both of Piner; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Swindler and Currin Funeral Home, Independence. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Wilmington Cemetery, Fiskburg.

Mary M. Bridges, 79, of Cincinnati, formerly of Ludlow, died at 4:10 a.m. Tuesday at Riverview Nursing Home, Cincinnati. She was a retired seamstress.
Survivors include her husband, Jack K. Bridges; a son, Michael Bridges of Dorr, Mich.; daughters, Theresa Gilland and Patricia Bess, both of Cincinnati, and Jacqueline Kelly of Jefferson, Ohio; 11 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Ronald B. Jones Funeral Home, Ludlow. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Erlanger.

Audrey Moran Campbell, 77, of Mays Lick, died at 9:43 a.m. Tuesday at Meadowview Regional Medical Center, Maysville. She was a homemaker. A daughter, Diana Kay Campbell, preceded her in death.
Survivors include her husband, Cole Campbell; sons, Allen Cole Campbell of Mays Lick and Jackie Lee Campbell of Maysville; a sister, Margaret Marshall of Mason County; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Palmer Funeral Home, Mays Lick. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Shannon Cemetery, Mason County.
Beatrice "Sug" Mae Chumley, 63, of Crescent Springs, died Monday at her home. She was a homemaker and a member of Crescent Springs Baptist Church. Mrs. Chumley also operated Sug Day Care in Crescent Springs.
Survivors include her husband, James W. Chumley; daughters, Greta Armstrong of Erlanger and Kathy Vorhees of Independence; a sister, Mary Corbett of Northbrook, Mass.; and six grandchildren.
Services will be at noon Thursday at Stith Funeral Home, Florence. Visitation will begin there at 10 a.m. Thursday. Entombment will be in Highland Mausoleum, Fort Mitchell. Memorials are suggested to the charity of the donor's choice.
Viola J. Corman, 93, of Nicholasville, formerly of Fort Thomas, died at 9:15 a.m. Monday at Royal Manor Nursing Home, Nicholasville.
She was a deaconess, Sunday school teacher and past president of the Christian Women's Fellowship, and a past president of the Virginia Asher Northern Kentucky Council.
She was a member of the National Federation of Retired Teachers and the Retired Teachers Association of Northern Kentucky, and a past corresponding secretary of the Covington Women's Art Club.
She was a member of Martha Ross Council No. 2 Daughters of American Revolution and Newport International Order of Odd Fellows Rebecca Lodge No. 65, and a past president of both the Business Women's Christian Women's Fellowship of Kentucky and Delta Kappa Gamma's Zeta chapter.
Survivors include a sister, Jessamine Pickering of Victorville, Calif.; and a nephew, Robert Mathews of Nicholasville.
Services will be at 6 p.m. Friday at Madison Avenue Christian Church, Covington. Visitation will be from 4 to 5:45 p.m. Friday at the church. Burial will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Lexington Cemetery.

Walter Joseph Decker, 91, of Plano, Texas, formerly of Covington, died Monday in Plano. He was a retired employee of the Bank of America and the Turf-Paradise Race Track, both in Phoenix.
He was a member of Knights of Columbus and St. Mark Church in Plano, and a former member of St. Augustine Church, Covington. His wife, Wilma Pickett Decker, died in 1978.
Survivors include a daughter, Lynda Jo Moyer of Plano; a son, William Decker of Garland, Texas; a brother, Paul F. Decker of Flint Ridge, Calif.; sisters, Evelyn Reinke of Fort Wright and Edna Mae Garbon of Cincinnati; and two granddaughters.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Mother of God Cemetery, Fort Wright. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 tonight at Middendorf-Bullock Funeral Home, Covington.
Linda Sue Earls, 42, of Covington, died at 11 p.m. Monday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas.
She was a host coordinator and receptionist with St. Elizabeth Medical Center North dietary department, and was a member of Covington First Church of the Nazarene, Park Hills.
Survivors include a son, Aaron Earls of Covington; daughters, Crystal Earls, Heather Earls and Belinda Earls, all of Covington; her mother and stepfather, Betty Jane and Jack Miles of Carrollton; sisters, Karen McIntyre and Lisa McIntyre, both of Crescent Springs; and three grandchildren.

Carole Ann Matisak Iavasile, 54, of Newport, died at 2:55 p.m. Monday at her home. She was an owner of World Wide Health, a foster parent and vice president of the Northern Kentucky Foster Parent Association.
Survivors include her husband, Frank Iavasile; daughters, Victoria Koors of Independence and Audra Amos of Greenville, Pa.; a son, Richard Moore of Cincinnati; stepdaughters, Robin Harms of Florence and Heidi Leek of Toledo, Ohio; a stepson, David Iavasile of Hebron; sisters, Marilin Stull of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and Wyne Gilmore of New York; brothers, Alan Matisak and Philip Matisak, both of Fort Thomas, and James Matisak of Cleveland; and nine grandchildren.

Georgia Kelly, 89, of Covington, died Friday at Ivy Woods Nursing Care C enter, Cincinnati. She was a domestic worker and a member of Macedonia Baptist Church in Covington, where she sang in the choir, taught Sunday school and was in the church missionary group.
