William Newell Jett, truck driver

William Newell Jett died Wednesday after an accident on his job at Miller Lumber Co. in Bracken County.

Mr. Jett, 52, of Foster, was using a lift truck to unload sheet lumber from a boxcar when the load shifted, said Skip Miller, the owner of the company.

Mr. Jett jumped from his truck and avoided being hit by the lumber, Miller said.

Still, Mr. Jett was injured and taken to Meadowview Regional Medical Center in Maysville, where he was pronounced dead.

Mason County Coroner Robert Brothers said he doesn't know why Mr. Jett died. He said Mr. Jett had some abrasions, but no other obvious signs of injury.

Mr. Brothers has ordered an autopsy and should have the results in several weeks.

Mr. Jett was a truck driver with Miller Lumber Co. and a Navy veteran. He was a member and elder of Chatham Church of Christ in Brooksville. He was also a member of the Augusta VFW Post.

Mr. Jett had worked for Miller Lumber Co. for about 20 years, Miller said.

Mr. Jett was a solid worker who got along well with his fellow employees, Miller said.

"He was like a brother to us. We are like family," Miller said.

Mr. Jett is survived by his wife, Sandra Faye Meyer Jett; children, Brian Jett of Germantown, Jamie Jett of Augusta and Michael Murray of Brooksville; stepchildren, Parker Wayne Hughes of Foster, Eric G. Hughes of Cincinnati and Anita Hall of Foster; his father, Judge N. "Pete" Jett of Augusta; a brother, Ronald L. Jett of Augusta; sisters, Bonnie J. Jett of Falmouth and Patty Esham of Vanceburg; three grandchildren and seven step-grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Chatham Church of Christ, Bracken County. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 tonight at Moore and Parker Funeral Home, Brooksville. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Germantown. Memorials are suggested to Chatham Church of Christ, Brooksville, Ky. 41004.

Rhonda Arlene Geairn Aseltine, 49, of Union, died Thursday at her home.

Survivors include her husband, Charles D. Aseltine; a son, Roy J. Saugie of Union; a daughter, Crystal L. Sanders of Florence; her parents, Marlene Patterson Geairn of East LeRoy, Mich., and James L. Geairn of Battle Creek, Mich.; and brothers, Bruce R. Geairn of Augusta, Mich., Theodore C. Geairn of Battle Creek, Jamie L. Geairn Jr. of East LeRoy and Elbert L. Geairn of Bedford.

No services are planned. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 tonight, and from 2 to 6 p.m. Saturday at Chambers and Grubbs Funeral Home, Florence. Burial will be in Camp Nelson National Cemetery, Nicholasville. Memorials are suggested to St. Elizabeth Hospice Unit, 401 E. 20th St., Covington, Ky. 41014.

Kenneth L. Broadwater, 70, of Glendale, Calif., formerly of Fort Thomas, died Sunday at Seventh Day Adventist Hospital in Glendale, Calif.

He was vice president of the Bank of America in Glendale, Calif.

Survivors include a sister, Sandra Dedman of Fort Thomas; nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Evergreen Cemetery, Southgate. Dobbling Funeral Home, Fort Thomas, is handling arrangements.

William Leroy Burkart, 57, of Highland Heights, died Thursday at his home. He was a security guard with Allied Security Co., Cincinnati, and a member of Kersten O'Day Sportsmen Club in Dayton.

Mr. Burkart was the former owner of Coaches Corner, Newport.

Survivors include his wife, Jean Groneck Burkart; sons, William C. Burkart and Joseph J. Burkart, both of Burlington; a brother, Stephen C. Burkart of Kenton County; and one granddaughter.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Joseph Church, Cold Spring. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Muehlenkamp-Erschell Funeral Home, Fort Thomas. Prayers will be at 9:30 a.m. Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be in St. Stephen Cemetery, Fort Thomas.

Memorials are suggested to Hospice of Northern Kentucky, 1403 Alexandria Pike, Fort Thomas, Ky. 41075.

Richard "Duke" Gabel, 82, of Bellevue, died Wednesday at his home. He was a retire d machinist with Crowley Book Machine Co., Newport, and a member of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, Bellevue. He was a member of Bellevue Vets and Boone County Chapter of the American Association of Retired Persons, and was an Army veteran of World War II.

Survivors include a son, Richard Louis Gabel of Bellevue; daughters, Ramona Georgia Fulton of Punta Gorda, Fla., and Carol Ann Walker of Bellevue; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Dobbling Funeral Home, Bellevue. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Floral Hills Cemetery, Taylor Mill. Memorials are suggested to Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, 306 Center St., Bellevue, Ky. 41073.

Elizabeth M. Insko, 89, of Chapel Hill, N.C., formerly of Northern Kentucky, died Wednesday at University of North Carolina Hospital, Chapel Hill.

She was a retired elementary school teacher and a member of University Baptist Church, Chapel Hill.

Survivors include her husband, Dr. C. Arthur Insko; a son, Dr. Chet Insko of Chapel Hill; two grandsons and one great-grandson.

Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Palmer Funeral Home, Germantown. Visitation will begin there at 2 p.m. Sunday. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Germantown.

Memorials are suggested to University Baptist Church Building Fund, 100 S. Columbia St., Chapel Hill, N.C. 27514.

Pearl Leah McEntyre, 95, of Latonia, died at 7:50 p.m. Thursday at Grant Manor Nursing Home, Williamstown.

Arrangements are pending at Connley Brothers Funeral Home, Latonia.

Christine McKeown, 75, of Latonia, died Thursday evening at her home.

Arrangements are pending at Swindler & Currin Funeral Home, Latonia.

Paul Allen Rodgers Jr., 16, of Cynthiana, died Wednesday at Harrison Memorial Hospital in Cynthiana. He was a student at Harrison County High School and a member of Cynthiana Baptist Church.

Survivors include his mother and stepfather, Dorthy Morris Himes and Everett E. Himes; his father and stepmother, Paul Allen Rodgers and Patricia Lynn Ritchie; brothers, Patrick Allen Rodgers and James Lee Ritchie, both of Cynthiana; sisters, Christina Louise Rodgers and Rachael LeighAnn Rodgers, both of Cynthiana; and grandparents, Helen Harney Morris, Lee Roy Rodgers, Everett Himes, Carolyn Sue Himes, Cathy and Larry Garrison, all of Cynthiana, and James Butler of Falmouth; and great-grandmother, Mary Sue Coppage of Cynthiana.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Ware Funeral Home, Cynthiana. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 tonight at the funeral home.

Burial will be in Pythian Grove Cemetery.

Joseph Saelinger Jr., 80, of Fort Thomas, died at 9:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Luke Hospital

East in Fort Thomas. He was a retired baker with Emerson Bakery in Erlanger, and owner of Bill's Bakery in downtown Cincinnati.

He was a for mer Wiedeman's Bakery employee, and also worked at Manyet's Bakery in Newport and at the Hotel Metropole in Cincinnati.

Survivors include his wife, Marie Hille Saelinger; a daughter, Mary Jo Studer of Wilder; and sisters, Dorothy Trauth of Cold Spring, Betty Dansberry and Martha Wuest, both of Highland Heights.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 11:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Therese Church, Southgate. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at Muehlenkamp-Erschell Funeral Home, Fort Thomas. Prayers will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will be in St. Stephen Cemetery, Fort Thomas.

Memorials are suggested to St. Therese Church, 11 Temple Place, Southgate, Ky. 41071; or The Point, 104 Pike St., Covington, Ky. 41011. Gladys Shull, 93, of Florence, died Tuesday at Florence Park Care Center. She was a home maker and a member of Union Baptist Church. Her husband, L. Clarence Shull, died in 1970.

Survivors include a daughter, Janet Ann of Florida; sisters, Lurline Burno of Savannah, Ga., and Virgie Combs of Michigan; and brothers, Ben Moore of Florida and James Moore of Kentucky. Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Forest Lawn cemetery Chapel, Erlanger. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the charity of the donor's choice. Stith Funeral Home, Florence, is handling arrangements.

Luster R. Stacey, 68, of Alexandria, died at 7 a.m. Thursday at his home. He was a retired laminator with U.S. Playing Card Co., Cincinnati.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy M. Stacey of Alexandria; sons, Danny Stacey and Donald Stacey, both of Alexandria, and Glenn Stacey of California; daughters, Charlotte Milburn of California, Teresa Meyer and Leslie Deaton, both of Alexandria; sisters, Ruth Hayden of Or lando, Fla., Louise Spurlock of Milford, Ohio, and Chris Taylor of Loveland, Ohio; 13 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Alexandria Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Alexandria Cemetery.

John O. Tyler, 82, of Covington, died Tuesday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center North in Covington.

He was a retired federal postal worker and an active member of First Baptist Church of Covington.

Survivors include daughters, Geraldine Humphries and Deborah Fann, both of Covington; a son, John Tyler Jr. of Moreno, Calif.; 13 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 7 p.m. Sunday at First Baptist Church, Covington. Visitation will begin there at 5:30 p.m. Sunday. Burial will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Floral Hills Cemetery, Taylor Mill. Jones and Simpson Funeral Home, Covington, is handling arrangements.

Eula Mae Vice, 89, of Covington, died Thursday at Woodspoint Nursing Home, Florence.

Arrangements are pending at Allison and Rose Funeral Home, Covington.

Rita Theresa "Boots" Wells, 70, of Taylor Mill, died at 9:23 p.m. Wednesday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood. She was a homemaker and a member of Holy Cross Church, Latonia. She was a volunteer with BeConcerned and a volunteer bingo and summer festival worker with Holy Cross Church.

She was a eucharistic minister at the church.

She and her husband owned the Jack's Delicatessen in Taylor Mill from 1958-75.

Survivors include her husband, Jack Wells; sons, John Wells III of Fort Mitchell, Bill Wells and Tim Wells, both of Taylor Mill and Steven Wells of Independence; daughters, Stephany Ivers of Bethlehem and Margaret Federmann of Independence; a brother, Cliff Schuttemeyer of Erlanger; sisters, Virginia Fahrendorf of St. Peterburg, Fla., and Helen Dressman of Erlanger; and nine grandchildren.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 7 p.m. tonight at Holy Cross Church. Visitation will begin there at 5 p.m. Committal services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Floral Hills cemetery Chapel, Taylor Mill. Burial will be in Floral Hills Cemetery.

Memorials are suggested to Holy Cross Church, 3612 Church St., Covington, Ky. 41015; or the charity of the donor's choice. Connley Brothers Funeral Home, Latonia, is handling arrangements.
