Union's John 'Bussie' Huff, devoted dad
John "Bussie" Huff of Union was a telephone company foreman, a farmer, an Army veteran and an active member of his church.
In addition, "He was probably the most loving, caring, giving person that I know," said his daughter, Patricia Durham of Florence.
"I think most of all he was very, very family oriented and dedicated to his family."
Mr. Huff died Monday at his home. He was 71 years old.
Mr. Huff was born and reared in the Big Bone area of Boone County. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War.
In 1948, Mr. Huff began working as a lineman for Consolidated Telephone Co., later bought by Cincinnati Bell Telephone. He was a foreman with Cincinnati Bell when he retired in 1978.
Mr. Huff was a member of the Beaver Lick Christian Church in Walton.
"He was the song leader for a number of years," said Mrs. Durham. "He was real active in the maintenance and caring for the church, inside and outside."
Mrs. Durham said her father raised tobacco, hay and cattle on land owned by friends around Big Bone.
"'Farming was his second love," she said.
Other survivors include his wife, Virginia Stephenson Huff; a daughter, Angela Evans of Walton; a sister, Anna Marie Johnson of Danville, Ind.; brothers, James W. Huff of Lexington, Lloyd Huff of Union and Joe Huff of Hebron; and one grandson. Services will be at 1 p.m. today at Stith Funeral Home in Florence. Burial will be in Beaver Lick Christian cemetery in Walton. Evelyn Bihl, 83, of Covington, died at 11:10 p.m. Friday at Woodspoint Care Center, Florence. She was a records clerk with Disabled American Veterans.
Survivors include a son, Stephen Bihl of Clearwater, Fla.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Stephen Cemetery, Fort Thomas. Catchen Funeral Home, Covington, is handling arrangements.
Paul Glendon Carson Sr., 57, of Dayton, died Monday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas. He was a retired security officer with Cincinnati Commercial Warehouse, Cincinnati, and a member of Newport Church of God. He was an Army veteran.
Survivors include his wife, Patricia Carson; sons, Paul Glendon Carson Jr. of Fort Thomas, Steven Carson and Robert Carson, both of Newport; daughters, Jenni Short, Tracy Carson and Brandi Carson, all of Newport; stepdaughters, Connie Douglas of Dayton, Sharon Stephens of Maysville, Tina McDonald of Newport and Jayne Ortlieb of California; a stepson, Matthew Stephens of Atlanta; brothers, Charles "Sonny" Carson of Highland Heights and Edward Troendle of Alexandria; and 20 grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Cooper Funeral Home, Grants Lick. Visitation will be from 6 to 10 tonight at the funeral home. Burial will be in Peach Grove Cemetery.
Richard Bryson Elbert, 72, of Independence, died at 1:35 a.m. Tuesday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood. He was a retired route salesman with the Teamsters and a member of St. Cecilia Church, Independence. He was a former member of the Independence Fire Department.
Survivors include his wife, Melva Jean Stone Elbert; sons, Donald Elbert of Cincinnati and Denny Elbert of Piner; daughters, Debra Hanna of Edgewood and Diana Powell of Union; a sister, Jewell Collopy of Edgewood; and 10 grandchildren.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Cecilia Church. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Swindler and Currin Funeral Home, Independence. Burial will be in St. Cecilia Cemetery, Independence. Voncella Gribble, 62, of Port Orange, Fla., formerly of Covington, died Sunday at Halifax Medical Center, Daytona Beach, Fla. She was a cafeteria worker with Latonia Elementary School.
Survivors include her husband, Russell Gribble; sons, Robert Hughes of Latonia, Thomas Hughes of Florence, Kenneth Hughes of Covington and Mark Hughes of Chesapeake, W.Va.; stepsons, Ray Gribble of Killee n, Texas, Richard Gribble of Lakeland, Fla., Robert G ribble of Dry Ridge, Rodney Gribble and Russell Gribble, both of Covington; daughters, Roxanne Oldiges and Pamela Hughes, both of Covington, and Lisa Conley of Latonia; a stepdaughter, Melody Brumfield of Texas; brothers, Ed Carroll and Wayne Carroll, both of Florence; sisters, Doris Caddell of Covington, Gerri Hubbard of Latonia, Jeanie Cox of Port Orange, Fla., and Alma McDowell of Latonia; 30 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Ronald B. Jones Funeral Home, Ludlow. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Floral Hills Cemetery, Taylor Mill.
Tiiu K. Hansman, 89, of Florence, died Feb. 9 at St. Elizabeth Hospice Unit, Covington. She was a clerk with State Street Bank in Boston, and a member of Boston Estonian Society and University Lutheran Church, Cambridge, Mass. A son, Tonu Hansman, died in 1990.
Survivors include a daughter, Liis McAndrew of Florence; and two grandsons.
Services were Saturday at Saville Funeral Home, Arlington, Mass. Burial was in Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Arlington. Chambers and Grubbs Funeral home, Florence, handled arrangements.
Kevin Lee Holland, 42, of Florence, died Tuesday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood. He was a horse groomsman with horse trainer Kecko Gothard.
Survivors include his father, Albert Holland of Hebron; his mother and stepfather, Brenda and Rodney Bolding of Florence; brothers, Jeffrey Holland and David Holland, both of Florence; sisters, Deborah Cunigan of Wilmington and Lisa Jones of Dayton; and grandmother, Anna Elizabeth Milner of Versailles.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Chambers and Grubbs Funeral Home, Florence. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Richwood Presbyterian Church Cemetery.

William C. Huesing, 60, of Carmichael, Calif., formerly of Fort Thomas, died at 1:05 a.m. Friday in Carmichael. He retired from the Air Force as a major in 1984, and worked for Southern Air Transport until 1996.
He was a recipient of the Distinguished Flying Cross award. A son, Christopher Huesing, died in 1997.
Survivors include his wife, Jacqueline "Jackie" Bergeron Huesing; a son, William Huesing of Carmichael; and a sister, Margo Huesing of Florence.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Muehlenkamp-Erschell Funeral Home, Fort Thomas. Visitation will begin there at 9 a.m. Friday. Burial will be in St. Stephen Cemetery, Fort Thomas. Marc Edward Linz, 36, of San Diego, formerly of Northern Kentucky, died of cancer on Jan. 29 in San Diego. Mr. Linz was a writer, and worked with the Navy Exchange. He was a graduate of Northern Kentucky University and president of his fraternity, Sigma Phi Epsilon.
Survivors include his parents, Matthew and Judith Linz of Fort Mitchell; a brother, Mitchell Linz of Fort Mitchell; and a sister, Jennifer Linz Schneller of Cincinnati.
Mr. Linz was buried at sea, off the coast of San Diego, on Feb. 1. Memorials are suggested to American Heart Association, 1885 Dixie Highway, Suite 250, Fort Wright, Ky. 41011. San Diego Cremation Services, San Diego, handled arrangements.
Linda Marie Baughn Loman, 41, of Erlanger, died Jan. 23 in Upland, Calif. A son, Christopher Lee Loman, died in 1990.
Survivors include sons, James Thomas Loman of Burlington and Aaron David Loman of Spring, Texas; her father, James "Buck" Baughn of Erlanger; a brother, David O. Baughn of Florence; and a sister, Cindy Baughn Vaughn of Corbin.
Services will be at 3 p.m. today at Eckler-Hudson Funeral Home, Dry Ridge. Visitation will begin there at 1 p.m. today. Burial will be in Hill Crest Cemetery, Dry Ridge.
Ricky "Tennessee Rick" G. Poore, 40, of Morning View, died Saturday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood. He was a siding installer with Murphy Home Improvement Co., Covington.
Survivors include his wife, Shirley Anne Poore; a son, Dustin Glenn Poore of Ryland Heights; daughters, Rebecca Ann Williams of Erlanger and Glenna Carol Poore of Ryland Heights; stepsons, Michael Gibson and Anthony Gibson, both of Morning View, and Donald Gibson of Pinetop; stepdaughters, Barbara Thomas and Teresa Gibson, both of Covington; his mother, Joyce Poore of Covington; his father and stepmother, Odus Blandyon Poore and Ally Poore of Byrdstown, Tenn.; brothers, David Poore of Morning View and Kelvin Poore of Covington; a sister, Polly Poore of Louisville; one grandchild and 12 step-grandchildren.

Helen Ramey, 79, of Williamstown, died Tuesday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center Grant County in Williamstown.
