Mitchell Gabbard Jr., mail carrier
Mitchell Gabbard Jr. was a dedicated man.
For 43 years he was a deacon in his church and very seldom missed a Sunday service, said his wife, Edith.
And for 10 years, he delivered mail to Owen, Gallatin and Grant counties, often taking the mail to the door for elderly people who couldn't walk to their mailboxes to get it.
"He was very well-liked by the community and knew everyone on his route well," Mrs. Gabbard said. The elderly and children on his route especially knew and loved him, his wife said.
Mr. Gabbard, of Glencoe, died Sunday at St. Luke Hospital West in Florence. He was 72.
He was also a farmer. He was a deacon with Poplar Grove Baptist Church and an Army veteran of the Korean War. He lived in Kentucky all his life.
A son, William Michael Gabbard, preceded him in death.
Other survivors include daughters, Peggy Tuggle of New Liberty and Brenda Baxter of Lawrenceburg; and four grandchildren.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at McDonald Funeral Home, Main Street, Owenton. Visitation will be from 4 to 9 tonight at the funeral home. Burial will be in Poplar Grove Cemetery. Delmar Arrowood, 73, of Dayton, died at 12:45 a.m. Sunday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center North, Covington. He was a retired foundry worker and minister with the United Pentecostal Church and a member of Apostolic Pentecostal Tabernacle, Seymour, Ind. He was a Navy veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Fairlean Brewer Arrowood; sons, Rev. Larry Arrowood of Seymour, Roland Arrowood and Doyle Arrowood, both of Florence, and Fred Arrowood of Cincinnati; daughters, Joyce Smith of Dayton, Sue Arrowood and Sherry Smith, both of Seymour; brothers, Charles Arrowood and Hargis Arrowood, both of Flint, Mich., Manuel Arrowood of Walton and George Arrowood of Taylor Mill; sisters, Kathleen Whitley of Arizona, Ada Mae Perkins of Verona, Odessa Turner of Taylor Mill, Faye Baker of Butler and Bonnie Strong of Whick; 13 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 7 tonight at Apostolic Pentecostal Tabernacle. Visitation will begin there at 4 p.m. Burial will be in Floral Hills Cemetery, Taylor Mill. Voss and Sons Funeral Home, Seymour, is handling arrangements.
Vera Wainscott Bond, 79, of Erlanger, died Sunday at Village Care Center in Erlanger. She was a cashier with Elsmere Drug Store and a member of Erlanger Baptist Church.
Survivors include a son, Ronald E. Bond of Dallas; daughters, Carole McIntire of Erlanger and Janet Baker of Florence; a brother, Robert Weber of Fayetteville, Ohio; a sister, Dorothy Liles of Newport; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Services will be at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Erlanger. Nattlain Brown, 80, of Florence, died at 6:30 p.m. Monday at her residence. Arrangements are pending at Stith Funeral Home, Florence.
Larry Ronald Chapmon, 54, of Fort Wright, died Monday at University Hospital, Cincinnati. Arrangements are pending at Connley Bros. Funeral Home, Latonia.
Helen Cooper, 65, of Covington, died at 4:30 p.m. Saturday at St. Luke Hospital West, Florence. She was a housekeeper with Rosedale Manor in Latonia. Her husband, Wallace Cooper, died in 1991.
Survivors include sons, Mitch Dennis of Tucson, Ariz., and Danny Cooper of Covington; daughters, Sherry Arment of Tucson, Christi Brett of Oregon City, Ore., Nina Freeman of Covington, Debbie Kerns of Florence and Janet Gullion of Demossville; a brother, Chester Thompson of Florence; sisters, Hazel Brotherton of Covington, Thelma Cooper of Independence and Pauline Hoffman and Dorothy Simpson, both of Florence; 14 grandchildren and one great- grandchild.
Services will be at noon Wednesday at Central Church of the Nazarene, Fort Thomas. Visitation will begin there at 10 a.m. Wednesday. Burial will be in Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church Cemetery, Dry Ridge. Catchen Funeral Home, Elsmere, is handling arrangements.
Robert K. Marksberry, 82, of Warsaw, died at 5:47 a.m. Saturday at King's Daughters Hospital, Madison, Ind. He was a retired farmer.
Survivors include sons, Charles Henry Marksberry of Glencoe, Robert Wayne Marksberry and Elmer Lee Marksberry, both of Warsaw, William David Marksberry, Frankie Dale Marksberry and Larry Eugene Marksberry, all of Sparta, and Stevie Ray Marksberry of Ghent; a daughter, Ruby Gay McSpadden of Morrow, Ohio; a stepson, James Woodrow Marksberry of Warsaw; a brother, James Lawrence Marksberry of Warsaw; 10 grandchildren and one great-grandson.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Hamilton-Stanley Funeral Home, Verona. Burial will be in Hance Cemetery, Gallatin County.
Joseph H. "Pete" Milner, 78, of Alexandria, died Sunday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas. He was a plasterer with Plasterers and Cement Masons Union Local No. 1 in Cincinnati, and a member of the Walton American Legion Post. His wife, Gweneth Milner, died in 1967. A daughter, Donna Marie Milner, died in 1951.
Survivors include a son, David Milner of Union; daughters, Gwen Milner of Florence and Marcia Milner of Covington; sisters, Beulah Brueggen of Dayton, Lucille Hardin of Florence, S.C., and Rosie Kern of LaFollette, Tenn.; a brother, Hobert Milner of Dayton; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Charles F. Ottis, 75, of Independence, died Monday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood.

Wade Royek, 31, of Studio City, Calif., formerly of Florence, died Dec. 22 at his home. He was a office and marketing manager with Barrons Center in Beverly Hills, Calif., and an Army and Coast Guard veteran.
Survivors include his mother and stepfather, Patricia and Mark Roberto of New Richmond, Ohio; sisters, Lori Reed of St. Petersburg, Fla., and Liza Willey of Columbus, Ohio; and grandparents, Ed Royek of Villa Hills, Betty Bluemlein of Park Hills and Billie and Lillie Dunn, both of St. Petersburg.

Charles Vincent Schreiner, 86, of Erlanger, died at 3:02 a.m. Monday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood. He was a retired printer with C. W. Zumbiel Box Co. in Norwood, Ohio, and a member of Primetime Seniors at St. Henry Church in Elsmere and St. Elizabeth Volunteers. He was a Navy veteran of World War II and the Korean War. His wife, Mary Jane McClung, died in 1991.
Survivors include a daughter, Marlene A. Pyke of Erlanger; one granddaughter and two great-grandsons.

Marcella T. Seibert, 88, of Alexandria, died Sunday in a fire at her home. She was a homemaker. Her husband, Harold Seibert, died in 1976.
Survivors include daughters, Joyce Combs and Carole Turner, both of Alexandria; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Dorothy M. Sullivan Welscher, 86, of Newport, died Monday at Highlands of Fort Thomas Nursing Home. She was a homemaker. Her husband, John "Babe" Welscher, preceded her in death.
Survivors include a daughter, Patricia L. Heckmuller of Cincinnati; two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
