Joseph Pentecost Sr., president of Allison & Rose Funeral Home
Joseph Blake Pentecost Sr., president of Allison & Rose Funeral Homes, died at 11:30 a.m. Saturday in his Boone County home.
He had worked for Allison & Rose, which has funeral homes in Covington and Taylor Mill, for 35 years.
"He was good. He was compassionate," said his wife, Robyn Christine Pentecost.
Mr. Pentecost, 60, of Union, started with the firm after graduating from the Cincinnati College of Embalming in 1964. Prior to that, he had attended the University of Cincinnati.
An avid outdoorsman, Mr. Pentecost and his wife bought a cottage six years ago on Big Bone Creek at Big Bone Lick State Park. Whenever he could get away from work, he would take his 16-foot aluminum fishing boat out on the water.
"That was his respite," his wife said. "Every time he would come down here, we would be in that boat."
One of his sons, Joseph B. Pentecost Jr. of Latonia, said spending time on the water was important to his father in recent years, especially after he became ill and couldn't spend as much time at work.
"He was as outgoing as any one person you'd ever meet," his son said. "He was involved in everything in town and always wanted to be the center of attention. Dad just got along with everybody he met."
