Ralph Willen, airport firefighter
Ralph Edward Willen of Burlington was always helping someone.
"He was just a loving type of person, and he would do anything for anybody that he could," said a sister, Alice Jeanne Rowland of Belleview. "He always tried to have fun, and he kind of spread it around. It was just his way."
Mr. Willen, 59, died Sunday at St. Luke Hospital West, Florence.
He was a retired captain with Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport Fire Department and an employee of Airline Container Corp., Hebron. He was also a member of the American Legion Post 4 in Florence.
He was a firefighter for 29 years.
"He loved his job," his sister said.
Other survivors include his wife, Barbara Willen; sons, Robert Willen of Berry and Andrew Willen of Owenton; a daughter, Michelle Cobb of Dry Ridge; stepsons, Michael Palmer and Rodney Palmer, both of Seguine, Texas, and Joseph Harvey of Independence; stepdaughters, Tanya Harvey of Myrtle Beach, S.C., and Sherry Stoltz of Athens, Ohio; brothers, Billy Willen of Farmland, Ind., and Joe Willen of Newport; sisters, Shirley Peaslack of Fort Thomas, Judy Hatfield and Diane Cunningham, both of Covington, and June Kirchnie of Cincinnati; two grandchildren; and four step-grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Linnemann Funeral Home, Burlington. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Erlanger.
Ralph Conrad, 79, of Falmouth, died Saturday at University Hospital, Cincinnati. He was a farmer and a member of Falmouth Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Marcella Hart Conrad; a son, Billy Conrad; a daughter, Jo Anne Gaddie of LaGrange; a brother, Tom Frank Conrad of New Holland, Ohio, Donald Conrad of Dry Ridge and Jimmy Conrad of Foster; a sister, Elnora Aulick of Falmouth; and one grandson.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Peoples Funeral Home, Falmouth. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 tonight at the funeral home. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Falmouth. Memorials are suggested to Falmouth Baptist Church, 403 Maple St., Falmouth, Ky. 41040; or to charity.
Anita Mae Foster, 85, of Cincinnati, formerly of Latonia, died Sunday at Gardenview Nursing Home in Cincinnati.
Arrangements are pending at Connley Bros. Funeral Home, Latonia.
Houston Hayes Garrett, 83, of Maysville, died Friday at Meadowview Regional Medical Center in Maysville. He was a salesman with Hudson's Furniture Co., Lexington, and has served in the Kentucky National Guard. His wife, Rebecca Jane Garrett, died in 1994.
Survivors include sisters, Catherine Schweitzer of Alexandria, Ind., Ora Todd of Lexington and Georgia Toy of Maysville.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Brell and Son Funeral Home, Maysville. Visitation will begin there at 11 a.m. Burial will be in Maysville Cemetery.
John L. Gentry, 69, of Florence, died Sunday at St. Luke Hospital West in Florence.
Arrangements are pending at Stith Funeral Home, Florence.
John Gilbert, 86, of Covington, died at 3:30 a.m. Saturday at his home. He was a retired employee of Union Light Heat and Power Co. and a member of Colonel Clay Lodge No. 159 F&AM in Covington.
Survivors include his wife, Mabel Barton Gilbert; a son, Robert Gilbert of Williamstown; brothers, Albert Gilbert and Hobert Gilbert, both of Pikeville, Tenn., and Hover Gilbert of Georgia; sisters, Lillian Creason of Pikeville, Tenn., and Mabel Gross of California; 10 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, seven great-great-grandchildren, and one great- great-great-grandchild.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Swindler and Currin Funeral Home, Latonia. Visitation will begin there at 10 a.m. Wednesday. Burial will be in Floral Hills Cemetery, Taylor Mill.
Mary E. Johnson, 89, of Highland Heights, died Saturday at Lakeside Place Nursing Home in Highland Heights. She was a homemaker. Her husband, Clyde R. Johnson, died in 1997.
Survivors include a daughter, Betty Dietz of Fort Thomas; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

George H. Justice, 85, of Covington, died Saturday at Grant Manor Nursing Home, Williamstown. He was a retired maintenance man with Georgia Pacific and part owner of the Clark Justice Co., which delivered ice to several local train yards to refrigerate railroad cars.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Justice; daughters, Angie Steffen of Burlington and Peggy Brinkman of Villa Hills; sons, Thomas Wayne Justice of Union, George C. Justice of Villa Hills and Gary L. Justice of Edgewood; 12 grandchildren, one step-granddaughter and nine great-grandchildren.

Billy Lea, 42, of Falmouth, died Sunday at his home. He was an employee of Fischer Special Manufacturing Co., Cold Spring, and a member of Trinity Southern Baptist Church, Falmouth.
Survivors include a son, William E. Lea Jr. of Falmouth; his mother, Alma Teegarden Lea of Falmouth; sisters, Betty Mastin, Joyce Ridener, Carolyn Hensley and Norma Metcalf, all of Falmouth; brothers, Robert Lea and Gary Lea, both of Falmouth, Paul James of Corinth and Eddie Lea of Akron, Ohio.

Marcella New, 72, of Owenton, died Saturday at Owen County Memorial Hospital, Owenton. She was a secretary with a Chrysler-Plymouth car dealership in Alexandria, Va., and a volunteer with the Owen County Clothing Center. She was a member of Richland Baptist Church, Owenton. Her husband, Billy Doyle New, preceded her in death.
Survivors include a son, Danny New of Monterey; a daughter, Gwendolyn Behen of Wilmington, N.C.; brothers, Ernest Gaines of Hesler and Charles Gaines of Lexington; sisters, Sue Henderson of Georgetown, Willette Cook and Renae Juett, both of Hesler; and two grandchildren.

Bessie Eleanor "Lewis" O'Neal, 84, of Louisville, formerly of Carroll County, di ed Friday at Clark Memorial Hospital, Jeffersonville, Ind. She was a retired food industry worker. Her husband, Thomas E. O'Neal, died in 1961.
Survivors include a son, Guy O'Neal of Louisville; sisters, Nannie Bee Ball and Ethel Boggs, both of Vevay, Ind.; two grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 1 p.m. today at Tandy-Eckler-Riley Funeral home, Carrollton. Burial will be in IOOF Cemetery, Carrollton.
Lillian Smoot, of Owenton, died Sunday at St. Joseph Hospital East, Lexington. She was a former teacher and a homemaker, a charter member of the Mount Pleasant Baptist Church and a past president of the Pleasant Home Homemakers. She was a Sunday school teacher at the church. Her husband, Mason Smoot, preceded her in death.
Survivors include a daughter, Doris Jean Noel of Lexington; a sister, Louise McManis of Frankfort; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Elizabeth Ann "Betty" Stanko, 54, of Cincinnati, died Friday at her home. She was a telemarketer with the Cincinnati Enquirer and a member of New Spirit Metropolitan Community Church, Cincinnati.
Survivors include her mother, Alice Oakes of Highland Heights; and a sister, Shirley Meyers of Butler.

Dolly Burns Starns, 72, of Williamstown, died at 8:05 p.m. Friday at Grant Manor Nursing Home in Williamstown. She was a former employee of Grant County Hospital, a homemaker and a member of Dry Ridge Baptist Church. Her husband, Charles C. Starns, died in 1988.
Survivors include daughters, Darlene Scroggins of Dry Ridge, Linda Kearns and Kathy Conrad, both of Williamstown; brothers, Robert Burns of California, Vick Burns of Covington and Floyd Burns of Florence; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Lewis Gilbert Walters, 57, of Covington, died Friday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center North in Covington. He was a self-employed painter.
Survivors include sons, Lewis Richard Walters of Snellville, Ga., and David Walters of Alabama; daughters, Melisa Jean Walters of Alabama, Shelly Jacobs of Union and Beverly Bates of Newport; his mother, Forrest Jean Smith Walters of Independence; brothers, Wayne Walters of Ryland Heights and Roger Walters of Independence; a sister, Connie Short of Covington; and nine grandchildren.
