Charlotte Fausz Cox, helped run Coxie's Corner tavern in Newport
Charlotte H. Fausz Cox, known for her melodious voice and tasty soups, died Sunday at Lakeside Place Nursing Home in Highland Heights. She was 96.
Mrs. Cox was born in Newport in 1903 to entrepreneur parents. They owned a bowling alley and restaurant on Monmouth Street before opening the candy store that Mrs. Cox and her husband eventually turned into a neighborhood tavern.

"It was pretty well-known in those days," said her other son, Marvin Cox. Mrs. Cox retired after the restaurant closed and went to live with Dwight Jr. for a short time before moving to the Lakeside Place Nursing Home, where she stayed for 17 years. At the nursing home, the staff wheeled her down for a show one night, and she won an award for her singing.
