William Rowland Sr., Burlington
William C. Rowland Sr. was a quiet man who believed in serving his community.
He was a deputy sheriff in Boone County from 1974 to 1994 and the first police chief of the Boone County Auxiliary Police Department when it formed about 30 years ago.
"He liked the service end of police work. He liked helping people," said a son, Bill Rowland Jr. of Burlington.
The elder Mr. Rowland, 73, also of Burlington, died Thursday at Mercy Hospital, Hamilton, Ohio. He was a retired district supervisor for CG&E; and a Navy veteran of World War II.
He was a member of Florence Lodge No. 949 F&AM, and USS Cabot Association, and was involved in his local Boy Scout troop.
His first wife, Mary Jane Rowland, died in 1980. His second wife, Marion Joyce Rowland, died in 1992. Other survivors include another son, Shaun Rowland of Burlington; daughters, Peggy Mierenfeld of Richmond, Va., and Kelly Gausepohl of Burlington; a brother, James E. Rowland of Burlington; sisters, Jean Stephenson and Patricia Winterman of Florence; 16 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Stith Funeral Home, Florence, with visitation 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Erlanger.

Cheryl Jean Bratton Bradford, 47, of Foster, died Thursday at University of Kentucky Medical Center in Lexington. She was a former manager for Kasper Fashions in Florida.
Survivors include a son, Gary Alan Bradford of Foster; a sister, Judy Goecke of Tucson, Ariz.; and one grandchild.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Moore and Parker Funeral Home, Augusta. Visitation will be from 6 to 9 tonight at the funeral home. Burial will be in St. Augustine Cemetery, Augusta. Memorials are suggested to Lupus Foundation of Kentuckiana, 1850 Bluegrass Ave., Louisville, Ky. 40215.
Arthur Glenn Brockell, 86, of Erlanger, died at 7:28 a.m. Thursday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center North in Covington. He was a retired motel owner and a Marine veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Margaret Brockell; sons, Richard "Rick" Brockell of Edgewood and James Brockell of San Diego; a daughter, Linda Krohman of Erlanger; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Private services will be at the convenience of the family. The body was donated to University of Cincinnati College of Medicine. Catchen and Son Funeral Home, Elsmere-Erlanger, is handling arrangements.
Reba Almeda Chiles, 87, of Pendleton County, died Thursday at Baptist Hospital East in Louisville. She was a homemaker and a member of Short Creek Baptist Church, Pendleton County, where she was a former Sunday school teacher.
Survivors include sisters, Gertrude Morris of Butler and Clara Elizabeth Smith of Louisville.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Short Creek Baptist Church, Pendleton County. Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Elliston-Stanley Funeral Home, Williamstown, and from 1 p.m. until time of services Monday at the church. Burial will be in Short Creek Baptist Church Cemetery, Pendleton County.
Sister Mary Anthony Cihy, C.D.P., 79, of Melbourne, died at 7 a.m. Thursday at Holy Family Home in Melbourne. She was a member of the Sisters of Divine Providence for 58 years. She worked at seminaries in Washington, D.C., and Maryland, and at St. Pius X Seminary in Erlanger as part of the kitchen staff.
Survivors include a brother, Edward Cihy of Wheeling, W.Va.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 4 p.m. Monday at St. Anne Convent, Melbourne. Alma Jean Cobb, 63, of Sanders, died Friday at Carroll County Memorial Hospital in Carrollton. She was a homemaker.
Survivors include her husband, James Lee Cobb; a son, James Lee Cobb III of Sanders; daughters, Peggy Sue Warfield and Betty Jo Dermon, both of Sanders, and Mary Elaine Dolby, Debra Lynn Supplee and Kathy Lee Cobb, all of Carrollton; sisters, Lillie Mae Snedecor of Benton, Ill., and Betty Jane Miles of Carrollton; 14 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Graham-Dunn Funeral Home, Carrollton. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday and after 10 a.m. Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Carrollton IOOF Cemetery.
Nelva Giles Crum, 88, of Harrisburg, Pa., formerly of Cynthiana, died Nov. 25 at Messiah Village nursing home in Harrisburg, Pa. She was a retired librarian. Her husband, Charles Crum, preceded her in death.
Survivors include a sister, Neva Giles Gottlieb of Harrisburg, Pa.

William R. "Bob" Gall, 83, of Villa Hills, died at 8:48 a.m. Tuesday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood. He was a retired self-employed residential and commercial carpenter and a member of Lakeside Presbyterian Church, Lakeside Park. He was a member of Covington Lodge No. 109 F&AM and a former member of St. Paul United Evangelical and Reform Church, Covington, where he was a Sunday school teacher. He was a Marine veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Ruth W. Gall; a son, Ron E. Gall of Nashville, Tenn.; a daughter, Sandy Schaber of Flagstaff, Ariz.; stepsons, John Phillips of Knoxville, Tenn., and Bob Phillips of Denver; stepdaughters, Sandy Kerlin of Covington and Linda Kern of Atlanta; a sister, Edna Fausz of St. Louis; five grandchildren, six step-grandchildren, three great-grandchildren.

Kenneth Howard Garrison, 69, of Brooksville, died Thursday at his home. He was a farmer and a member of Triumph Christian Church and Augusta Masonic Lodge No. 80.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Tucker Garrison; a daughter, Phyllis Garrison Behymer of Brooksville; a son, James "Jamie" Irvin Garrison of Brooksville; sisters, Mae Elizabeth Wills of Cynthiana and Eloise Mastin Honican of Cincinnati; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Haldane H. Hornbeck, 77, of Carrollton, died Thursday at King's Daughters' Hospital in Madison, Ind. A retired sheet-metal worker, he was a member of Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Sheet Metal Workers Union Local No. 110 and American Legion.
His wife, Rosella Hardin Hornbeck, died in 1992. A daughter, Raenel Fisher, and a son, John William Hornbeck-Furnas, also preceded him in death. Survivors include daughters, Charlotte Thornton of Paris, Angela Jump of Owenton, Lynne Oney of Frankfort, Diane Heffelfinger of Troy, Ohio, and Ruth Ann Collette of Tipp City, Ohio; sons, David Hornbeck of Charlotte, N.C., Daniel Hornbeck of Frankfort, Ben Hornbeck of Carrollton, Haldane R. Ruth Baldwin Huesman, 69, of Bellevue, died Thursday at St. Luke Hospital East in Fort Thomas. She was a retired waitress for the former Glenn Schmidt bowling alley, Newport, and River Downs, Cincinnati.
Survivors include her husband, William Huesman; sons, Robbie Hillner of Bellevue, Larry Huesman of Edgewood and Bill Huesman of Cold Spring; daughters, Kim Turner of Rising Sun, Ind., and Dawn Deck of Bellevue; and a sister, Evelyn Bennett of Dayton.

Shirley Jensen, 74, of Covington, died Friday at home. Services are pending at Ronald B. Jones Funeral Home, Ludlow.
Raymond Allen King, 84, of Erlanger, died at 8 a.m. Friday at St. Luke Hospital West in Florence. A retired engineer for Southern Railroad, he was a member of Kento-Boo Baptist Church, Florence, and a former member of First Baptist Church of Ludlow, where he was a deacon and Sunday school teacher. He was a former board member of the Baptist Convalescent Center, Newport, and formerly coached knothole and semi-pro baseball in Northern Kentucky.
His first wife, Dorothy Capel King, died in 1955. Survivors include his wife, Nettie Holt King of Florence; a son, Wayne Allen King of Union; a daughter, Betty Herold Duncan of Erlanger; a sister, Frances Eggleston of Taylor Mill; brothers, Marion King of Taylor Mill, Melvin King of Texas and Neal King of Florence; four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Services will be at noon Monday at First Baptist Church of Ludlow, with visitation from 10 a.m. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Erlanger. John Epperson Manley, 84, of Cynthiana, died Thursday at Edgemont Manor Nursing and Convalescent Home in Cynthiana. He was a retired farmer.
His wife, Anna Louise Manley, and a daughter, Ann McDonald, preceded him in death. Survivors include sons, Gilbert Manley of Berry, William Manley of Amelia, Ohio, George Manley of Brooksville and James Manley of Millersburg; a daughter, Iva Mae Miller of Cincinnati; a brother, James Manley of Hillsboro, Ohio; a sister, Ann Sears of Mount Sterling; 13 grandchildren, one step-grandchild and 16 great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Ware Funeral Home, Cynthiana, with visitation 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday. Burial will be in Pythian Grove Cemetery, Harrison County.
Odie McClain, 84, of Covington, died Thursday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center North in Covington. She was retired from St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas, and a member of Corinthian Baptist Church, Newport.
Survivors include a cousin, Dorothy Harper of Cincinnati; and nephews, Charles McClain and Myron McClain of Covington and James Salters of Des Moines, Iowa.

Louise M. Meyer, 91, of Fort Thomas, died Thursday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas. She was a retired secretary and a member of Fort Thomas Women's Club and Daughters of the American Revolution.
Survivors include a son, D. Kenneth Meyer of Fort Thomas; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Verne Stikeleather Parry, 84, of Villa Hills, died at 11:50 a.m. Tuesday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood. She was a professional musician with the Jacksonville, Fla., Symphony, and a member of Lakeside Presbyterian Church, Lakeside Park; the American Federation of Musicians; and American Guild of English Handbell Ringers.
Her husband, Chester Parry, died in 1992. A son, Jeffrey Stikeleather, died in 1991. Survivors include daughters, Barbara B. Pryor of Edgewood and Pamela S. Gref of Sidney, Ohio; sons, David Stikeleather and Philip V. Stikeleather, both of Cincinnati; a sister, Lenore Wilhelm of Cape Coral, Fla.; a brother, Earl Weaver of Muskegon, Mich.; 14 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Fannie Bell Riley, 88, of Carrollton, died Thursday at Green Valley Health Care in Carrollton. She was a homemaker. Her husband, Fred Riley, died in 1993.
Survivors include daughters, Betty Henry of Carrollton and Margaret Riley of Louisville; sons, Jessie Riley of Bedford, Allen Riley of Worthville and Fred Riley Jr. of Carrollton; and 14 grandchildren.

Katheryn Maurer Rudicill, 91, of Florence, died at 6:14 p.m. Thursday at St. Luke Hospital West in Florence.
She was a retired secretary for Farm Bureau Insurance, Burlington and a member of Burlington Gethsemane Methodist Church, Boone County Utopia Club, Hebron Homemakers, Boone County Democrat Club and Boone County Fair Board Executive Council.
Her husband, William T. Rudicill, died in 1957. Survivors include sons, William A. Rudicill and James T. Rudicill, both of Burlington; four grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Paul Cline Simpson Jr., 68, of Williamstown, died Thursday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center Grant County in Williamstown. He was pastor of Bethany Baptist Church, Williamstown; a farmer; and an Army veteran of the Korean War.

Florence E. Cooley Smith, 58, of Newport, died Thursday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center North in Covington. She was a homemaker.
Survivors include her husband, Wilbert "Dink" Smith; daughters, Jerri Taylor, Vicky Tipton and Karen Morris of Newport, and Gertrude Baker of Dayton; her father, Gordon Cooley of Florida; 16 grandchildren.

Ruth Jane Stevens, 88, of Virginia Beach, Va., formerly of Northern Kentucky, died Wednesday at Sentara Nursing Center in Virginia Beach. She was a member of Thalia Lynn Baptist Church, Virginia Beach.
Survivors include a daughter, Phyllis Wilson of Cleveland, Ga.; sons, Wayne Gue of Pomona, Calif., and Lee H. Day of Virginia Beach; a sister, Helen Beasley of Blanchester, Ohio; grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be held at noon today at Tidewater Funeral Choices, Virginia Beach.

Mary Sue Stull, 49, of Newport, died Thursday at her home. She was a homemaker. Survivors include sons, Charles Stull of Latonia and Don Stull of Newport, and daughters, Rebecca Adams, Kathy Bridewell and Linda Neace of Newport.

Charlotte B. Williams, 62, of Corinth, died Friday at her home. A service representative for Manpower Services, she was a member of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include her husband, James I. Williams; a son, Jimmy D. Williams of Zama, Japan; daughters, Georgia M. Gessert of Spencer, Ind., Debbie Osteman of Fond du Lac, Wis., and Deana Williams of Des Moines, Iowa; sisters, Nancy A. Groh of Corinth and Linda Oatley of Des Moines, Iowa; six grandchildren.
