Richard Bathiany, track coach
Richard E. Bathiany was a popular coach and teacher while at Newport High Schoo l and Woodward and Western Hills high schools in Cincinnati.
"A lot of people remembered him and would always ask me about him," said his nephew, Albert E. Bathiany III of Fort Thomas. "I've been with him many, many times when I was growing up, and he was just a great guy."
Mr. Bathiany, 90, of Clearwater, Fla., formerly of Fort Thomas and Newport, died Saturday in Clearwater. He was a retired chemistry teacher.
He coached track for many years. Mr. Bathiany's track team at Newport High won the state championship in the 1940s, his nephew said. Mr. Bathiany was a member of the Northern Kentucky High School Athletic Directors Hall of Fame. He loved all sports.
Mr. Bathiany was a retired Navy lieutenant commander, having served during World War II and in the Naval Reserve. He enjoyed walking the Gulf Coast beaches in Clearwater and playing the piano.
His wife, Ruth Bathiany, preceded him in death.
Other survivors include nieces.
Memorial services will be in Clearwater Beach, Fla., at the convenience of the family. Muehlenkamp-Erschell Funeral Home, Fort Thomas, is handling arrangements.
Wendell R. Hart, 77, of Erlanger, died Wednesday at Baptist Convalescent Center, Newport.
Arrangements are pending at Middendorf-Bullock Funeral Home, Erlanger.
John P. Hedrick, 91, of Lakeside Park, died at 11:15 a.m. Wednesday at Florence Park Care Center. He was a retired owner and pilot of Boone County Airline Co., and a member of the Quiet Birdmen Club of Indianapolis and Grand Lodge of Indiana F&AM. He was an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II. His first wife, Madelyn Opal Miller Hedrick, died in 1970. His second wife, Iona Mae Greive Hedrick, died in 1997.
Survivors include a daughter, Suzi Hedrick of Chicago; a stepdaughter, Janice Caplinger of Springfield, Ohio; and a step-granddaughter.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Forest Lawn cemetery Chapel, Erlanger. Visitation will begin there at 10 a.m. Friday. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to St. Elizabeth Hospice Unit, 401 E. 20th St., Covington, Ky. 41014. Allison and Rose Funeral Home, Taylor Mill, is handling arrangements.
Frances Elizabeth Jones, 88, of Falmouth, died Tuesday at her home. She was a cafeteria worker with Pendleton County Schools at Morgan and Pendleton high schools. She was a member of Blanket Creek Baptist Church in Pendleton County and a member of the Blanket Creek Missionary Union.
Survivors include her husband, Rufus Jones; daughters, Margaret Ellen Ritter of Falmouth and Joyce Ann Crigler of Shepherdsville; a son, Clarence Ray Jones of Louisville; brothers, Woodrow Wiglesworth and James Wiglesworth, both of Falmouth; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Woodhead Funeral Home, Falmouth. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Burial will be in Pythian Grove Cemetery, Harrison County. Memorials are suggested to Hospice of Hope, 1 W. McDonald Parkway, Maysville, Ky. 41056; or the church of the donor's choice.
Mary Elizabeth "Betty" Lahner, of Crestview Hills, died at 10:15 p.m. Monday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood. She was a homemaker. Her husband, William A. Lahner, died in 1986.
Survivors include sons, Thomas W. Lahner of Cincinnati and Paul J. Lahner of Alexandria; and six grandchildren.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Pius X Church, Edgewood. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Linnemann Funeral Home, Erlanger. Burial will be in Mother of God Cemetery, Fort Wright. Memorials are suggested to charity.
Rembert J. Meyer, 75, of Independence, died Saturday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas. He was a retired postal worker and research and develop ment engineer with Hunkar Laboratories and a member of Calvary Baptist Church, Latonia. A son, Rembert Stephens Meyer, died in 1966.
Survivors include his wife, Sara Luise Stephens Meyer; a daughter, Karen Reach of Fairless Hills, Pa.; sons, David Meyer of Walton and Mark Meyer of Independence; a sister, Virginia Williams of Florence; and five grandchildren.
Services will be at 1 p.m. today at Chambers and Grubbs Funeral Home, Independence. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Erlanger. Memorials are suggested to Calvary Baptist Church, W. Southern and Tibbatts Ave., Covington, Ky. 41015.
Alvah F. Moorhead, 84, of Brooksville, died Tuesday at Lakeside Place Nursing Home, Highland Heights. He was a farmer and a member of Powersville Baptist Church. A son, Ronald E. Moorhead, and daughter, Minnie Lois Stewart, preceded him in death.
Survivors include his wife, Louella Johnson Moorhead; sons, Robert A. Moorhead of Brooksville and Thomas Franklin Moorhead of Germantown; daughters, Wilma Jean Williams of Falmouth and Bertha Moorhead Jones of Brooksville; sisters, Mary Lois Jett of Brooksville and Christine Padgett of Lexington; 21 grandchildren; and 30 great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Moore and Parker Funeral Home, Brooksville. Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Powersville Cemetery, Brooksville.
Lillian B. Oliver, 100, of Lexington, formerly of Owen County, died Tuesday at Rose Manor Health Care Center in Lexington. She was a retired nurse with Eastern State Hospital and a member of Hillcrest Baptist Church. Her husband, Ackley Oliver, preceded her in death.
Survivors include sons, Jack B. Oliver of Winchester; brothers, Fred Dempsey, Ray Dempsey, Marvin Dempsey and Howard Dempsey; sisters, Ollie Tackett, Ella Burris and Lola Downs; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Georgia Phelps, 81, of Erlanger, died Tuesday at Grant Manor Nursing Home, Williamstown. She was a retired book binder with American Book Co., Cincinnati, and a member of Central Church of the Nazarene in Fort Wright. She was active in the church's Ladies Fellowship Group and was a Sunday school teacher there. Her husband, Wesley Phelps, died in 1994.
Survivors include a son, Marvin Phelps of Verona; a daughter, Charlotte Gullett of Erlanger; a sister, Jenell Higgins of Elsmere; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Ronald B. Jones Funeral Home, Ludlow. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Floral Hills Cemetery, Taylor Mill.

Theodore E. Spicer III, 73, of Fort Thomas, died at 1:05 a.m. Tuesday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas. He was a retired shipping clerk with Cincinnati Sub Zero Products Inc., a member of Disabled American Veterans and Christ Church United Church of Christ in Fort Thomas, and an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II. A son, Theodore E. Spicer IV, died in 1992.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy M. Zierer Spicer; daughters, Deborah J. Brown and Denise A. Justice, both of Fort Thomas; a son, Tom L. Spicer of Highland Heights; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Christ Church United Church of Christ, Fort Thomas. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Southgate. Lenor M. Wallace, 88, of Newport, died at 7:55 p.m. Tuesday at Carmel Manor Nursing Home, Fort Thomas. She was a cashier with the City of Newport. Her husband, Gilbert Wallace, died in 1951.
Survivors include a daughter, Dolores Lalley of Fort Thomas; a son, Richard Wallace of Rockville, Md.; nine grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

Robert J. Weinel, 76, of Alexandria, died at 1:10 p.m. Wednesday at Highlands of Fort Thomas Nursing Home. He was a retired agent for Farm Bureau Insurance in Alexandria, a member of the Kentucky Artificial Breeding Association and a 4-H leader in Campbell County.
Survivors include his wife, Irene Weinel; sons, Tom Weinel of Cold Spring and Jim Weinel of Alexandria; sisters, Emma Lou Baker of Alexandria and Anna Mae Sperry of Highland Heights; and seven grandchildren.
Services will be at 8 p.m. Friday at Alexandria Funeral Home. Visitation will begin there at 5 p.m. Friday. Burial will be in Alexandria Cemetery.
Carol Joy Asher Wynn, 59, of Dayton, died Wednesday at her home. She was a computer operator with the Internal Revenue Service in Covington and a former bookkeeper with Dine's Furniture Store, Newport.
Survivors include her husband, Vernon Wynn; a daughter, Crystal Joann Newberry of Lexington; a son, Brian V. Wynn of Atlanta; her mother, Betty L. Asher of Toledo, Ohio; brothers, Donald Asher and Glenn Asher, both of Toledo, Ohio, and Ralph Asher of Olive Hill; sisters, Judy Miller of Cincinnati, Marian Stewart and Mildred Sweet, both of Toledo, Ohio; and two grandchildren.
Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Bagdad Cemetery, Shelby County. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Dobbling Funeral Home, Bellevue.
Joseph B. Youngman Jr., 50, of Erlanger, died Tuesday at his sister's home in Foster. He was a school bus driver.
Survivors include his wife, Glenda Diane Youngman; a son, Daryl Youngman of Stanton; sisters, Clara L. Jackson and Elaine Howard, both of Augusta, and Dililah Toller of Foster; brothers, Shirley Youngman of Falmouth, David Youngman of Brooksville and Donald Youngman of Georgia; and four grandchildren.
